Lepanto solar plate etching, 26”x32”, 2015 $500 Be still and listen to my ar t. It is sometimes a symphony, some times a solo. I use chords of color and linear lyrics to create an echo of melodies, harmonies, and dissonances. Some of my Prints are light and air y, a hear tfelt ballad. Others sound deep and full with an operatic rhythm and movement. Be still and listen to the songs of line, shape, and color. Feel the Vibrations. S-77 Roxxann Graber Baldwin City, KS

Silent Auction level of meaning. Her work demonstrates the subtle power of a very discriminating veil of ambiguity in her vision. Her opalescent and often shimmering light is set against a background of essential mystery. Her imaginative eye produces work rich in textures, middle-tones, and darks, which beautifully contain transcendent dream-like obliqueness. Her imagery is similarly oblique and indirect, often seeking out the most common objects seen in surprising and puzzling ways. This work is unique and demanding of the imaginative participation of the viewer. www.roxanngraber.com

Silent Auction S-97 Grandma Layton Lawrence, KS
Oma and Opa lithograph, 84/90, 25”x33” $900 Elizabeth Layton, a native of Wellsville, Kansas began drawing in 1977 at the age of sixty-eight when she took a drawing class at a local university. In class she learned to use the technique of “blind” contour drawing in which the artist looks at the paper only for points of reference, concentrating on the subject reflected in the mirror rather than the line being drawn on the paper. Every day, Layton worked at creating self-portraits that reflect her response to contemporary social issues. That fall, a local newspaper reporter, Don Lambert, was searching for an interesting subject for an article and stumbled upon the class display at the college. Upon discovering the drawings of this “old woman from small-town America,” Don became her biggest fan – and promoter - and to this day continues to tirelessly promote her drawings and her story. www.elizabethlayton.com

FEATURED ARTIST Clare Doveton draws inspiration from the natural world by simply being a quiet witness to the circle of life in rural Kansas. She describes painting as the process of translating the silent dialogue she has with the world onto the canvas. Doveton seeks to conjure both the heavenly and darker qualities of the ever yday experience, and she views these as equals in her work (and in life). Clare Doveton’s work will be featured in her solo show of new works preceding the 2015 Benefit Ar t Auction. A Kansas native, Clare Doveton moved to New York City in 1994 where she received her BFA in painting from Parsons School of Ar t and Design. She began exhibiting her work in San Francisco and New York. In 2005, she moved her studio back to Kansas, where she currently works in Lawrence. She has been selected as the featured ar tist for this year’s auction. ARTIST STATEMENT My focus in painting has always revolved around light. My painting humbly attempts to reflect the light that pours out of ever ything when we bear true witness to our surroundings. In these works, layers of thinned pigment create an ethereal dialogue between ear th and sky. Integrated into this are subtle lines drawn in with various tools, often representing a human hand on the land. Changing seasons mean changes in color; summer casts a deep orange heat, while the winter skies pale to white. Painting documents the sacred light of each day passing, and ser ves as a true memor y of Home.
