L-1 JEROMY MORRIS

Meta Streetscape

$2200

ACRYLIC, SPRAY PAINT, TONER, GOLD LEAF AND EPOXY ON PANEL, 25 X 37”, 2016 LAWRENCE, KS // Jeromy Morris was

born in Denver, CO, and he received his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications and Graphic Design from the University of Kansas. He has co-founded the Fresh Produce Art Collective, is the Director at SeedCo Studios, and is the Curator at Cider Gallery Fine Art. His artwork emphasizes the relationship between two or more disparate mediums. Epoxy, acrylic, toner transfers, spray paint, and found objects vie for space on found-wood pieces or panels. Morris’s works are inspired by the interactions between opposing forces; consumerism and advertising are pitted against urban ruins and the forces that exist between nature and industry. www.jeromymorris.com

His work reflects the color and forms of nature that he observe every day. Edmonds focuses on his place in the natural and uses his camera to focus on its details. The images of nature are transitory, often evanescent. He strives to perceive its patterns, and as an artist to record them in paint and print and text ... for it is the nature of artists to manipulate the art of nature. www.chrisedmondsstudioquilts.com

L-21 JUSTIN MARABLE

$700

The Resistance SERIGRAPH, 13 X 30”, 2014 LAWRENCE, KS //

Kendra Marable graduated from KU with her MFA in painting and drawing. Her work employs a variety of media, depending on the visual question. This study led to a larger piece she made in response to her father’s unexpected death. Needing to examine his 70 year lifetime in a visual form, she painted one wave to represent each day of his life. He was a world class, open water long distance swimmer. As she painted for hours and hours, the mathematics and repetition of the monotonous painted waves were similar to her father’s swim strokes. The meditative and contemplative process allowed a deeper connection to be made in spite of his absence.

In recent years, Matthew has adopted a mantra of community building through the arts by serving on the board of the Lawrence Percolator and hosting a monthly life drawing gathering through the arts collective Thieves Guild. Matthew’s fingers are often covered with ink.

Quiet Edges ACRYLIC AND GRAPHITE ON BOARD, 16 X 48 X 3”, 2016 LAWRENCE,

KS // Jen Unekis was born in LA but spent her childhood in rural Kansas, Oklahoma, and Idaho. Working primarily in acrylic and graphite on board, she is inspired by the unexpected while painting. The pooling of color up against an inky line, or the way fine sketchy graphite marks can be obscured by paint, yet still hold your interest. Images that feel out of place in a literal world yet still find their place in the world of abstraction. She has won multiple awards and has had solo shows at Jenny Wheat Gallery, Phoenix Gallery, and most recently at Cider Gallery. www.jenunekis.com

Bowerman’s artworks are in galleries, juried exhibitions and private spaces. The Lawrence Arts Center has featured Bowerman’s early scanography artworks in a one-person exhibition in the main gallery. www.bowermanscanography.com

LITHOGRAPH, 22.5X30, 1982

Elizabeth Layton, a native of Wellsville, Kansas began drawing in 1977 at the age of sixty-eight when she took a drawing class at a local university. In class, she learned to use the technique of “blind” contour drawing in which the artist looks at the paper only for points of reference, concentrating on the subject reflected in the mirror rather than the line being drawn on the paper. Every day, Layton worked at creating self-portraits that reflect her response to contemporary social issues. That fall, a local newspaper reporter, Don Lambert, was searching for an interesting subject for an article and stumbled upon the class display at the college. Upon discovering the drawings of this “old woman from small-town America,” Don became her biggest fan – and promoter - and to this day continues to tirelessly promote her drawings and her story. www.elizabethlayton.com

FUSED AND SLUMPED GLASS, 10” DIAMETER, 2014

LAWRENCE, KS // Rachel Rademacher has

been working in fused glass since 2009. Each piece begins with an inspiration: a glimpse of sunrise through the trees, a vivid sunlit field of wildflowers, or an antique quilt. Rachel’s work with glass has trained her eye to be alert for the bright colors hidden in the world around us. A single color may start her on the quest to represent the image seen from the various colors and textures of glass available. Spread out around her on the work table in her studio, the pieces take on the look of a puzzle in process. Each piece is cut and ground to fit into its slot in the composition. Finally, the various pieces fall into place and the puzzle is complete. www.rachelsglassart.wordpress.com
