L-1 GRANDMA LAYTON (1909-1993)
Now I can read $450 LITHOGR APH, 30” X 40”, 1982
Elizabeth Layton, a native of Wellsville, Kansas began drawing in 1977 at the age of sixty-eight when she took a drawing class at a local university. In class, she learned to use the technique of “blind” contour drawing in which the artist looks at the paper only for points of reference, concentrating on the subject reflected in the mirror rather than the line being drawn on the paper. Every day, Layton worked at creating self-portraits that reflected her response to contemporary social issues. That fall, a local newspaper reporter, Don Lambert, was searching for an interesting subject for an article and stumbled upon the class display at the college. Upon discovering the drawings of this “old woman from small-town America,” Don became her biggest fan and promoter, and to this day continues to tirelessly promote her drawings and her story. elizabethlayton.com
L-2 JACK COLLINS Blue green and red $2,000 WOOD, C ANVAS, C ARDBOARD, PAINT, 18 1/2” X 14 1/2”, 2016
L AWRENCE, KS // Jack Collins has worked with collage for the majority of his career as an artist, challenging himself with the immediacy of the process. The changes on the surface of the canvas create new possibilities that he accepts, includes and adjusts, or rejects. He uses an ongoing process of continually revisiting paintings until "something" emerges. The chosen images are personal and unique to him, existing only on the wall and alluding to "no thing" visible in the surrounding world. mccaffreycollins.com

Morris holds a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Starting her professional career in New York, she started out in animation and children’s television, but eventually left to study art therapy with Edith Kramer, the founder of the field of art therapy, to get her M.A. degree from New York University.
