Table Pieces // Jeff Weinberg

AUGUST 14 - SEPTEMBER 12

Or, The Whale // Jos Sances

AUGUST 14 - SEPTEMBER 12

Exhibitions

A board and four legs is a table—function and design meant to be used. Add created objects: human, animal, insect, demons of the dark made from gemstones and pearls, marble paste, gold and silver and nails and wire and rocks. The resulting forms speak of the human condition, the joy of dance, the unseen living creatures that inhabit our lives, and the beauty of stones under our feet. When placed on a table, each work can stimulate thought and conversation, yet each remains animate in the dark as we dream. This exhibition will display some of Weinberg’s newest works.

For eight months artist Jos Sances was able to focus joyfully and manically on this very large scratchboard drawing that was inspired by Moby Dick and the history of whaling in America. The whale’s skin is embedded with a history of capitalism in America—images of human and environmental exploitation and destruction since 1850. The whale is a metaphor for survival, immortality and a reason for optimism.

Leon Richmond’s Theater of The Absurdo // Leon Richmond

AUGUST 14 - SEPTEMBER 12

Using reclaimed vintage thrift store objects, this exhibition addresses a historical American visual analysis of who we were, who we are and what we mostly still want to be. We currently live in very interesting times, and this work reflects that in an unflinching, absurdist and often lowbrow way. Richmond looks back at material culture for inspiration—fully reacting to what is currently going on in America socio-politically and trying to connect some of the dots.

Sound the Climate Alarm // Lora Jost

OCTOBER 30 - DECEMBER 23

Hidden From View // Lindy Chambers

OCTOBER 30 - DECEMBER 23

In Lora Jost’s exhibit of drawings and mosaics, cardinals honk and chickadees sing razor wire. Death chases a prairie chicken with a blaring saxophone. Animals drawn from memory reveal the loss we find when we are without them. With a sense of beauty and compassion, through images that visualize sounds that are both real and imagined, Jost’s work “sounds the alarm” on climate change, animal extinction, and other urgent concerns. It encourages the viewer to “listen” with an open heart toward creating a future where there is enough to share and compassion for all.

Lindy Chambers’ work bridges realism and the abstract, the perfect foil for her subject matter. She represents trash monochromatically unimportant to the inhabitants of her work but still an integral part of the composition. This exhibition of large paintings addresses life as we know it now in the city as well as rural life. Rural Texas informs Chamber’s work. Here, well maintained acreage yields to an abundance of trash, mobile homes and abandoned vehicles. Existence is transient here. Migrants leave cultural influences in their wake. These traces inspire the artist as do the forms and colors; brightly colored mobile homes of acid gold and deep maroon, cerulean blue with quinacridone rose. Resilience and optimism conquer meager incomes.
