Calling all dancers in 1-12 grade and adults who enjoy movement to audition for Arts Center’s The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. This production is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War era. This newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the wooden Nutcracker soldier from the clutches of the Mouse King. This family production is for audiences of all ages. Be a part of this winter seasonal favorite! Auditions are Saturday Sept. 15. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to audition time. ceramics symposium Every two years, the Lawrence Arts Center hosts nationally recognized ceramicists in a symposium on topics central to the contemporary ceramics art world, offering an opportunity to interact and observe ceramic artists working in the top of the field. Over the course of two days, this select group of artists demonstrate sculpting processes, wheel throwing, surface decoration and glazing. Ceramicists represent a diverse range of techniques and approaches to ceramic art in studios at the Lawrence Arts Center while demonstrating their techniques and encouraging dialogue with the audience. Friday, October 12th and Saturday, October 13th from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

NATE DITZLER // 2018/19 CERAMICS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Nate Ditzler grew up on the island of O´ahu, Hawai´i. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hawai´i at Manoa. In 2016, he completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at West Virginia University. He has shown in galleries, solo shows, juried exhibitions, and group shows nationally and internationally. Johanna received her MFA from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and was the 2017-18 recipient of the University of Tennessee College of Arts and Sciences Thomas Fellowship. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
