FOR OUR IN-PERSON AUDIENCE Patrons are required to show proof of full vaccination to enter performances and public events. Those without proof of full vaccination must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. In accordance with Kansas State Fire Marshal regulations, we request that you take a moment to identify two emergency exits closest to you. In case of emergency, pay close attention to any announcements about important safety information. Properly worn masks must be worn throughout the building at all times. As a courtesy to our other guests, as well as our performers, please refrain from talking and texting during the performance. Patrons who create disturbances will be asked to leave the theatre. All cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during performances. The use of photographic, video, or any other recording equipment is strictly prohibited. Our theater is cleaned regularly with state-of-the-art Tersano Technology. Air quality is maintained with needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI).
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your experience in our facility, please ask the House Manager. Our highest priority is keeping our audiences, performers and staff safe.
THE LAWRENCE ARTS CENTER THEATER IS EQUIPPED WITH A HEARING LOOP SYSTEM. A receiver sends the voices of our performers from the microphone directly into a hearing aid or cochlear implant. If you use a T-Coil or Telecoil Aid, enjoy as is; if you have another hearing device, please speak to an usher to obtain a headset and enjoy the show!
DIRECTOR’S NOTE Dear audience members, Thank you for joining us for what is sure to be a delightful performance of The Sleeping Beauty. This ballet, based on the familiar tale, was first performed in 1890. It’s set to the beautiful score by Tchaikovsky and based on the original choreography by Marius Petipa. This production provides all the beauty, excitement, and celebration one expects from a classic story ballet. Thank you also for your continued support of this awesome cast of dancers. By being here in our audience you help enable these dancers to keep dancing and most importantly, keep performing, which has been a scarce activity over these last couple of years. I know many of you also helped make this show possible by driving dancers to rehearsals, volunteering in the dressing rooms, and helping with costumes. Thank you! All the dancers and staff have been working so hard these past weeks to create an amazing show and we’re so happy to perform it for you! Please enjoy our presentation of The Sleeping Beauty.
Sincerely, Paige Comparato Artistic Director 5

BIOS Paige Comparato started her ballet training at the age of nine in Topeka, KS at Barbara’s Conservatory of Dance and danced with Ballet Midwest for many years, performing several principal roles. Paige received ballet training at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX before returning to Kansas University to pursue a degree in Art History. She has taught many dance forms, but primarily teaches ballet to all ages and skill levels. She also choreographs, directs and costumes dance productions including The Sleeping Beauty, La Fille Mal Gardee, Snow Queen and Cinderella. Paige also teaches ballet for Point B adult dance. She is certified to teach Progressing Ballet Technique. Paige has worked for the arts center, in many capacities, for over 20 years. Emma Davison grew up dancing, creating, and experimenting at the Lawrence Arts Center, beginning as a mouse in the first performance of A Kansas Nutcracker and graduating as a founding member of the Lawrence Ballet Theater. Her early immersion in the arts led to her studies at the University of Kansas, where she graduated with a BA in Art History and minors in Dance and Religious Studies in 2017. Since graduating, Emma has worked in arts administration and dance education, and is currently working towards a Masters in Education.
Heidi Lantz has had a passion for costume construction and design from a very young age. Throughout high school and her college career she's worked on the costumes for a variety of productions including Pippin, Harvey, Much Ado About Nothing, A Kansas Nutcracker Ballet and is very excited to have the opportunity to work on The Sleeping Beauty!
Lexey Jost is a scenographer and Kansas native. Having attended Emporia State and the University of Kansas to study design for the stage, her scenic work on KU's 2018 production of Spring Awakening earned her an invitation to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. to coordinate with fellow up-andcoming designers. In addition to her design and technical work, she stays involved in the writing and performance side of theatre with PANTSco in Kansas City and Lawrence.
