Incorporate the great outdoors into your artwork: explore native plants, seed pods, garden design, insects, and all the beauty of nature found in our backyards. We’ll make tiny terrariums, seed sculptures, Andy Goldsworthy installations, and yard art sculptures. The perfect way to kick off the summer is to bring your art into the backyard!

A stolen art piece! Hidden clues! Can the Art Detectives solve the case in time? We’ll assemble the greatest spy team ever for an interactive art-making, truth sleuthing, detective adventure that explores forgeries, secret codes, iconography, character development, and immersive theater. STEAM concepts include spycraft, engineering, forensics, tech surveillance, and other sleuthing skills to solve the crime.

The galaxy needs you now more than ever! Hone your Jedi skills as you immerse yourself in the rich mythology of the Force and all its players. Our artwork will explore the many facets of Star Wars; from Sith Lords to Cantina jazz players, every character is important. STEAM concepts include the physics of lightsabers, the astronomy of the galaxy, and ship design and engineering. Combine Jedi training in performance and dance with character and narrative design in visual art. By the end of the week, our young Padawans will be Jedis!

It’s on like Donkey Kong! This entire week is devoted to creating a playable, cardboard arcade in the lobby. Each student will work on their own or with friends to create a kinetic sculpture that can be a part of a playable arcade at the end of the week. STEAM concepts focus on the forces, motion, and engineering that ensure each game works. Using the backdrop of the 1980s, artwork will be big, bold, brash, and definitely neon. No quarters, just imagination.

Stop reading now if you don’t like cool, gross stuff! Snot, burps, farts, blood, germs— our body is a universe of its own, filled with the most amazing stuff. How does it all work? This camp explores the science of the human body. Use STEAM in action to create chemical reactions that explore textures, smells, and sights. Principles of art include the proportion of anatomical drawing, color mixing for perfect bodily fluid depictions, and the patterning of our bodies at the cellular level.

John Muir meets MacGyver! Students will design and build tools to survive getting Lost in the Woods. STEAM concepts focus on engineering basics. We will focus on naturalist artwork such as Audubon animal and plant illustrations as we make our own pigments and cave paintings, and, of course, all the wonderful tools we’ll need in the wilderness.

Dragons and centaurs and unicorns, oh my! Learn the code of a knight and the secrets of a wizard in this ren-faire-inspired week of fun. STEAM concepts explore how trebuchets work (with water balloons!), the chemistry behind alchemy and potions, and the classification of fantastical creatures. Come create your own illuminated manuscripts filled with beautiful artwork and share your legend with new friends.

Wouldn’t we rather be under the sea, in an Octopus’ garden in the shade? Fueled by rainbows and the spirit of The Beatles, students explore the wonders of the ocean in our magical yellow submarine. Inspired by the whimsical artwork of the 1960s, we’ll take a different approach to marine biology and oceanography. Using art principles of color, patterning, and texture, we will create Peter Max-ish marine life drawings, bioluminescence paintings, and an amazing coral reef sculpture.

While planning, designing, and engineering a kid-sized cardboard box metropolis, students apply their imaginations to fill the city in. Using Sydney, Australia as an example, we will look at urban planning and design and how it shapes the world we live in. Students gain appreciation for shape, form, and proportion as they apply these principles to their expanding city. The real magic happens as students take ownership of the structure, identity, and culture of the city. The city is installed in the lobby for all to enjoy with a public opening on the last day of camp.

We’ve found the magic manga formula that uses storytelling, cute artwork, and character development to explore the world of Japanese pop culture. Using emphasis, pattern, and shape, get your Japanese influence artwork just right! From 2D Pokemon cards to 3D Domo soft sculptures, use STEAM concepts that include industrial design, prototyping, and game design. Doumo arigatou!
