Audition registration opens at 5:30pm Established in 1997, the Carmine Ballere Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence and commitment in dance. Encouraging the study of ballet and a life-long devotion to dance, the scholarship covers the cost of four ballet and pointe classes per week as well as all production and participation fees during the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 semesters. The awardees are required to serve as teacher’s assistants for one Preschool/Kinder class per week, and must currently be enrolled in Ballet IV-VII to audition.

Lawrence Ballet Theatre

Lawrence Ballet Theatre (LBT) is the pre-professional ballet company of the Lawrence Arts Center. The mission of LBT is to provide extensive training, performance opportunities and artistic experience to dancers seeking to develop advanced experience in preparation for a professional career in dance. Under Artistic Director Cynthia Crews, company members gain exposure and experience through numerous performances and the opportunity to work directly with professional guest choreographers. LBT is one of the fourteen member companies that make up the prestigious Regional Dance America/MidStates. This Spring, LBT will tour to Regional Dance America’s National Festival in Phoenix, AR on May 2-6th to perform their upcoming Emergence concert and to study with master teachers. Check the Arts Center website for updates and photos of the company’s activities while at the festival. 2017/18 AUDITION AND PARTICIPATION Auditions are held each year for the Novice, Junior, and Senior Company. Kaw River Canoe Workshop / Thomas Huang

The experience of constructing and launching a canoe becomes accessible to those with little to no construction skill. Through an innovative design and construction process developed by KU Industrial Design Associate Professor, Tom Huang, students of all ages and experience harvest local bamboo and recycled plastic grocery bags to construct a fleet of canoes.
