Our
As we head into the new year, we’re proud to present a season that reflects the people of our community and puts them centre stage. This spring we’re showcasing South Asian stories, supporting local West Yorkshire talent and creating opportunities for young people to shine.
Alongside this we’re bringing world-class theatre from across the UK here to Huddersfield.
Our theatre is a welcoming place which champions diversity. At Lawrence Batley Theatre we work closely with South Asian communities to make sure everybody feels welcome here. This season we have a number of events which celebrate South Asian culture. These include the Oliver-nominated drama 10 Nights, Rassam, an exhibition of photography exploring South Asian traditions, plus the return of our banging Bhangra Night!
We’re continuing to fly the flag for local talent and bringing you incredible shows created by West Yorkshire artists, proving that world-class theatre is being created on our doorstep and putting Northern voices and stories centre stage where they belong.
Our Associate Artist, local playwright Philip Stokes, returns with explosive new drama Shellshocked fresh from a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe and starring two incredible local actors. And local lass Natalie Bellingham brings her very special combination of
movement, clowning and storytelling in Look After Your Knees. We are so proud to support world class performance made right here.
We’re committed to bringing families in our community the best shows and providing young people with creative opportunities. What we do here at the theatre makes a lasting impact on young lives.
Every year, thousands of young people take to our stage for the very first time, discovering their potential and building confidence that lasts a lifetime. At ours, children and young people get the chance to peek behind the curtain to see how we make the magic of theatre. These experiences create memories that stay with them forever and inspire them to dream bigger.
As a registered charity we need your support to continue bringing all of this magic to local people.
So please support however you can, whether that be through buying tickets, making a donation, becoming a Lawrence Batley Theatre Member or picking up an ice cream and a pint when you next visit, all income goes straight back into making our community proud and we can’t do it without you.
Hope to see you at the theatre soon!

A moving and funny play, 10 Nights is the story of one man’s journey of selfdiscovery, and facing the consequences of your actions.
