“ Douglas M. Knight President 1954-1963

During his tenure, President Knight clearly recognized what Lawrence’s critical building needs were if the college was to achieve a national reputation as a first-rate institution, saying it was necessary to ‘provide the flesh with which the spirit of the place could flourish’.

Excerpt from “A Great and Good Work: A History of Lawrence University 1847-1964” by Charles Breunig

Academic Excellence and Student Outcomes 315 E College Avenue

This is really highlighting and supporting ways that the humanities are changing and growing and innovating. It is where we’re going to lean into creating internship opportunities and set up community partnerships.

-Constance Kassor Associate Professor of Religious Studies

Academic Excellence and Student Outcomes Fox Commons

We can design classrooms to foster active learning and create the type of rich learning environments that we want on campus.

I’m excited that we’re building that in at the outset as part of the design. -Scott Corry Patricia Hamar Boldt Professor of Liberal Studies & Professor of Mathematics

Business Center Multipurpose Room and Pitch Stage

Student-athletes, staff, and our community will have a premiere training space in the Midwest with this addition to campus. The facility will also greatly assist with our focus on recruitment and retention and drive future growth and competition.

Academic Excellence and Student Outcomes I loved it so much that I decided to spend my last term at Lawrence at the London Centre, this time pursuing an internship at a publishing house. That internship led me to my first career out of school, and now I’m back in London pursuing my master’s.

Academic Excellence and Student Outcomes

Alumni gatherings such as this help galvanize Lawrence’s commitment to experiential learning. Ethnic Studies majors and minors were given the chance to connect what they are learning in the classroom about race, ethnicity, identity, history and society to the archive and the museum experience.

It also showed our students what they could do with a degree in Ethnic Studies, and how they can use the knowledge and skills they gain in the classroom out in the real world.

-Jesus Smith Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies

Academic Excellence and Student Outcomes I believe in empowering Lawrence students to discover and create paths forward that help them become the best versions of themselves. I hope more alumni recognize that sharing their experiences can change someone’s future.

Apartment-style living options is something students have been asking for. There are many students who are seeking more independence, and this absolutely does that in a way that Lawrence hasn’t done before.

Anders Hanhan ’24 President, LUCC

Wes Varughese ‘16 MBA Candidate, Georgetown University

As the world changes and a new generation of leaders enter the beginnings of their careers, it’s our prerogative as alumni to pass on industry knowledge to prepare our students with tools to be successful.

Giving back looks different for everyone.

Timothy Anne Burnside ‘02 Curatorial Museum Specialist, National Museum of African American History & Culture
