This 2D animation is named ‘Loss Out’. The basic concept of this animation is searching and catches what you want. And the story is developed and designed base on a man and a bird, and the main scene is the desert.

Life is like a loop, we expect we can get more or get something better when we are struggling in a difficult situation. We want to overcome the problem or the worst situation in a short time.

And therefore we try hard to catch something, which helps to solve the problems. But the result usually is not that match as what we are imagine. The core message of my project is my impression about pursuit of dream. We may find that what we pursuing is not actually what we get; therefore, we turn to a new target. However, life is a loop of desiring, pursuing and lost, we never know what we desire may get you lost again.

Therefore I set up a story background and character to present this message. I hope the audience will review what is the most important things in their life. Is what they are fighting for matches their original pursuing.

And the target audience would be focusing on youngsters, especially who are the seeker of the world to pursuing the ideal future of their life.

“You must always be clear what you want”.

At the first stage research, it is hard to find some useful material for reference or develop the story. I read some interview about people who success in pursuing dreams. However most of the message of the story are not that match with my core message.

Therefore, I find some novels, which hope help to express my message. And I got ‘A Fable About Following Your Dream’. It is an enlightening story about a shepherd’s quest to find his treasure. Along the way, he encounters helpful guides as well as seemingly insurmountable obstacles. As he nears the end of his journey, he finds, in an ironic twist, that it isn’t what or where he thought is was. This is recommended reading for all the seekers of the world. One of the sentences in the book, “You must always be clear what you want”, inspired the deeper development of my story a lot.

Nature of the Story The main character is a man who was in the desert followed a water ball. He tried to catch the water ball, as that’s what he searched for a long time. And when he finally cached the water ball, He felled into it and was trapped in the water ball. He lost his freedom and cannot escape from the water ball.

The story was developed without dialogue; I want to use images to present the development of the story line.

I would like to bring out the message for the audience that what you pursuing at that moment may caused some unexpected loss to you, which is much more important.

Hope the audience will reflect and review what is the most important thing in their life. Is that the one that they are fighting for? Is that money, love or anything else? And the ending of the looping plots tells my own point of view of this issue, I think there may not have a per fect answer, which can apply for everyone; maybe we are all the man in the desert, we are all searching, losing, and then looping.

As the story are presented without dialogue, it take the risk audience may misunderstanding about the development of the story. Therefore the characters and the scenes take the role of explanation and expression the meaning of the core message. To light up and clarify the / meaning of the story, I try to use characters and scenes that have

Scene / Water drop The water drops is the most difficult things in the development. No matter the colors and the texture are difficult to present. Finally, with real water bubbles texture combine with vector graphic style are made.

Character / The man The man with young face and curve hair are designed. Costume with long sleeve and short pants. The color tone will be light and shallow to present fantasy mood. With the reference search, I have tried to select personalities of different character. And decided the vector style with high contrast

I will use different angles of wide shots to show the extensity of the desert and the sky. Vector style with photography texture is combined.

A mild color tone gives fantasy style.

Scene / Water drop The shots of the birds are not that much but close up and the actions of flying are important to show the dynamic of animal. The color of body is in darker
