If Wishes Were Horses… Bangalore: The BBMP elections are over and the candidates have been chosen. What next? About eight million Bangaloreans battling power and water shortage, pollution, traffic snarls and mounting garbage are pinning hopes on a new elected civic body to reverse the worsening living conditions. The people are eager to know how the elected candidates are going to function. Will BJP carry out its promises and work dedicatedly to earn a name for itself? Layout Times' statistics proves to be slightly disappointing with people complaining that the elected candidates keep away from the cheering public and all the enthusiasm died away so soon. Perhaps many people who voted for their respective candidates expecedt a better encouraging response from the elected candidates. Perhaps it might be too early to gauge the performance of the Education Loan candidates as they need time to settle Services down before they get on with developmental works. www.credila.com Views collected from a random Toll Free: 1-800-209-3636 080-25598999 Cell: 9916120010/12/14/15 sample of 40 people from in and around Whitefield, Marathalli, Kundalahalli, KR Puram are as follows: Ph: 41640562 Opening Shortly in Services Unlimited Do you have faith in the elected 41640563 Whitefield candidates that they would do a good job Cell: 9740392015 for the public? 3% of people say yes. 77%

of people say that one has to wait and watch. 20% say No. What is the reason for the poor turnout of voters in the BBMP elections? 70% say the past performance of parties are not so impressive to attract the entire voting population. Soon after the election, the milk price has gone up. However, the CM of Karnataka announced that the farmers benefit from the raise. The people are of the opinion that the government may increase the price of a few other things in the near future. There are complaints that the drinking water supply has been reduced soon after the election in some areas. A resident of Doddanakundi says, it is difficult to see people like Gurumurthy Reddy who devoutly involved in social work. “Being not in politics, he rendered a good service. He is no more.” He adds. It is now BBMP's turn to prove that the team is worth for the job they have been entitled with. All that the corporators need is the will, courage and a big heart to serve the people of Bangalore.

Will E-Voting Double 45% Turnout? Bangalore: The recent BBMP election witnessed a poor voter turnout of 46%. The government and media conveyed the message to the public to exercise their franchise. In spite of the expectations that it would certainly be above 60%, it came down to 46%. Besides being not interested in the process of electing a candidate, there are many who did not find comfort in traveling to the voting booth and cast their vote. Of course many are away from the city. Will electronic voting bring a solution in the form of a greater voter turnout? Recent technological developments have opened up the possibility of electronic voting and this clearly (Cont. on Page 4....)

failed in BBMP Election?

Bangalore: Exposing the shortfalls of BJP in order to gain votes did not work for congress. People go by performance of the past and did not have much hope in the candidates. It is easy to tell where others have faltered but difficult to tell one's own follies. The attitude has to change in the first place. Though there were complaints in the air that BJP has not utilized the Centre's funds properly, people could not think congress as a viable alternative. Congress had long history in the country, however it showed no improvement in the elections. The party missed the best chance to encash on the limited opportunities. Also the loss is due to unwanted internal party leaders' self prestige. Will congress work its way to improve in the forthcoming Gram Panchayat elections? MIND WORKS-30 Acceptance is the Key By UK Athikkal

-----------

We all desire and expect positive changes to happen in our lives. Our internal motivation to work for growth arises from certain level of dissatisfaction with the existing state. Now the problem starts. Your dissatisfaction with the existing states may provide you the required energy to work for changes to happen. But be sure that you are able to accept the existing state or situation whole heartedly even if you desire to have change from that. If you are not able to accept the situation, it is likely that you may not have the positive energy you need to work for changes. You may perceive the whole situation in an unhealthy state of mind As an example, let us take the case of a person “X” wanting to improve his unsatisfactory relationship with his/her spouse. For influencing positive changes, the first step is to accept the reality of the relationship. If we hesitate to accept this situation, we may not be able to succeed in our efforts to reform or to improve the situation. Take another case. A student “S” is a low scorer. If he doesn't accept this state, he may attribute his present state to external factors and will never have the courage to face the situation and work towards improvements in a positive manner. Suppose you are not happy with

your present employer or terms of engagement. What are the options available to you? (1) Get frustrated. Find fault with everything that goes on. Consequently the employer may find it difficult to tolerate the individual.Resulting unsavory actions and steps may adversely affect your career plans and dreams. (2) Even though you are not satisfied with the existing situations, you decide to accept the situation, and render your devoted service while at the same time, contributing your best in discharging the assigned responsibility. It is self evident that option 2 and actions on those lines will yield better outcomes. While introspecting on changes and improvements, we need to possess three important traits, courage, humility and wisdom. ? courage to act on issues which are to be changed, ? humility to accept what is not feasible for change, and ? wisdom to choose appropriately. provides some opportunities and threats. On the one hand, the new technology may help make voting more cost effective and more convenient for the voter and may even increase voter turnout. On the other, e-voting may introduce new risks and affect electoral values, such as the secrecy of the vote and the place of voting as an observable institution in modern democracies. But India can overcome any shortfalls to make electronic voting successful in the future. At present various countries and different electoral systems are confronted with these opportunities. Will the new technology, with its international standards and its seemingly objective opportunities and threats determine the development and lead to a convergence in voting practices which optimise the benefits? Or, will decisions concerning the application of ICT in the voting process vary as a result of differences in social context and varying democratic institutions? Many European and Western countries are trying to adopt electronic voting. Based on social theory regarding technology adoption, Indians may have to differ in their attitudes and actual decisions regarding e-voting. Bangalore as a tech city can very well think of introducing/testing electronic voting in local BBMP elections.

Is Over the Phone Nikah Valid? Technology tries to control everything these days, apparently even marriages. In the recent fiasco following the Shoib Malik – Sania Mirza engagement, with Ayesha Siddiqui and the alleged “marriage over phone” being thrown into the already thickened plot of an India-Pakistan, celebrity marriage liaison. People are now wondering if a telephonic marriage is at all permissible under the Islamic Shariah Laws. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board says any Nikah over telephone or Internet is valid, though the ulemas, or Islamic scholars maintain that it is not possible to truly validate a Nikah over the phone. Just the action of taking the vows on the phone is not valid as there is no basis of a proof allowing for there to be a huge possibility of either party reneging literally on, “the contract of marriage.” As per Islamic jurisprudence, “Ittehad-e-Majlis' is a necessary condition for a valid contract of marriage. This means the bride, the bridegroom and the witnesses should ideally be present at one place and clearly, meeting these conditions is simply not possible over telephone.
