Labour – in a Single Shot a Film Workshop Indiranagar: Max Mueller Bhavan is h a p p y t o announce a Film Workshop by well-known G e r m a n filmmaker Harun Farocki. Held in collaboration with Srishti School of Art, Design and Te c h n o l o g y, "Labour – in a single Shot" is d e s i g n e d exclusively for filmmakers and students and will take place from January 13 to 25, 2 0 1 2 . The task is to deal with the issue of labour with a single shot,

meaning to produce a video film that consists of only one shot. The subject matter in question is 'labour': paid and unpaid, material and immaterial, rich in tradition or altogether new. In some African countries an entire family lives from cultivating a tiny strip of land next to the highway. In many European countries farmers survive by leaving t h e i r s o i l uncultivated, something which is being monitored by satellite images. In order to

regain something of their decisiveness we draw on the method of the early 19th century films, for instance the Lumiére brothers' Workers Leaving the Lumiére Factory and Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat. said today. "Rising interest rates, steep and steady rise in input costs, unregulated price hike in raw material, sudden depreciation of rupee against major currencies together with labour pangs are certain key reasons behind the alarming drop in passenger car sales which shrunked to just over four per cent between January and November and dramatically rose to nearly seven per cent in November," said Mr D.S. Rawat, secretary general of The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) while releasing the chamber's analysis on 'Indian Auto Industry: The Year Ahead'.

"Besides, global disturbances like a slow pace of economic recovery in the United States, a soverign debt crisis in the Eurozone, sluggish economic growth in Japan and a slowing Chinese economy are other significant reasons due to which automakers in India have been finding it difficult to keep their margins intact," said Mr Rawat. “The growth of car sales in the current fiscal is likely to stay about four to five per cent as against nearly 30 per cent in the previous year,” said Mr Rawat. Despite the rising input costs most of the carmakers reduced the prices and offered a plethora of discounts to spur car sales in 2011 amid rising competition in the auto industry.
