Garbage Mess - Involve Public for Suggestion? Bangalore: With Bangalore's garbage mess adding to the problem, the cit y's civic administration and the Karnataka government were urged by a trade body to involve people and give them a free hand without political interference to make the state capital a better city. All 198 wards in the city should have "watchdog committees to promote transparency and accountability in works executed by government departments, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industr y (FKCCI) said. These committees

should comprise "eminent citizens, representatives of reputed NGOs, organisations like FKCCI and resident welfare associations and they should be given a free hand to function without political interference and hindrance," FKCCI president K. Shiva Shanmugam told a press conference. The demand comes against the backdrop of Bangalore, known as 'Garden City', turning into a virtual garbage city as the BBMP left thousands of tonnes of garbage to rot in the city for around ten days from August last week.

Harness the Power of Surprise for Business Breakthroughs How did Gatorade revitalize itself in the wake of Red Bull and Starbucks? How did Etsy come to b e ? Wh a t m a k e s o n e company or brand thrive while others languish in today's fastpaced, ever-changing marketplace? There's no doubt hard work is involved, but Soren Kaplan shows you can't do it by simply creating a big vision and implementing a set plan. In his trailblazing debut, Kaplan gives business leaders the tools to do exactly what they're taught to avoid: embrace surprise—the new key to business innovation. For Kaplan, breakthrough success is all about "leapfrogging." Instead of fighting against uncertainty, Kaplan reveals how to use it to break down limiting mindsets and barriers to change the game. Using his LEAPS process (Listen, Explore, Act, Persist, and Seize), leaders learn to recognize and harness surprising experiences and events as a way to create solutions that leap beyond the

current expectations of customers, partners, employees, and the competition. By highlighting specific ways to transform both good and bad surprises into unique opportunities, Kaplan encourages leaders to compete by embracing c o u n t e r i n t u i t i ve i d e a s, managing paradoxes, and even welcoming failure. Now is the time to challenge assumptions and reinvent what is possible. All organizations—from large corporations to those just star ting out—have the potential to take a significant leap forward by turning today's increasingly uncertain environment into a tool for unprecedented success. Kaplan's Leapfrogging is the new handbook for the modern leader. A picture is a poem without words. Horace

Smart City and Housing Plans Bangalore: With increasing migration to urban areas from villages and towns in pursuit of education, jobs and better living, realtors should build smart cities for housing all with as many amenities. “The way forward to solve the acute housing problem in urban areas is to build smart cities with better amenities so as to provide a quality life for denizens and decongest the old and densely populated cities.” says union Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna at a conference on real estate. As migration of people to urban from rural areas and growth of cities is unstoppable, long-term planning and affordable solutions are imperative to meet the demand for commercial and housing space.

Quoting data on how about 60 percent of the GDP was being generated from urban areas with growing cities as economic hubs, education hubs and tourism hubs, Krishna said smart cities should be planned using a transit-oriented approach to create an ecosystem that would be sustainable and affordable. The 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) also highlights inclusive governance and environmental sustainability to ensure transparent development of urban areas with master plans and debt coverage ratio.
