Dear Soccer Fans, On behalf of Lafayette High School, I want to welcome you to the 2010 Generals Soccer season. We will see some exciting competitions, as well as our first soccer games in our new Ishmael Stadium, scheduled to open in October. Although we will begin the season off campus, Coach Oppegard and our student athletes are looking forward to inaugurating the new athletic facility. We are proud of their sportsmanship and class on the field. Our parents and volunteers work tirelessly to support our student athletes and are anxious to host the games later in the season. We could not have a successful program without their help and support. For our senior players, to play the first games on the new turf offers the chance to write the first page in a new chapter of the athletic legacy of Lafayette. We wish the seniors and all the players a successful season on and off the field. Sincerely, Vicki Ritchie Principal Lafayette High School
2010 Lafayette Girls Soccer COACHES

Laura Oppegard graduated from Lafayette in 2003 and was a player on the girls soccer team her junior and senior year. While at Lafayette she accumulated numerous awards including first-team all state, all-city, all-district and finalist in the Miss Soccer for Kentucky. She was also selected as co-MVP and defensive MVP her junior year, MVP her senior year and captain her senior year. Laura also played for the 4 time state champions club team of LFC Premier ’84. She graduated from Murray State University cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. While at Murray State University, Laura was a four-year starter on the women’s soccer team. She was selected as captain both her junior and senior year and was also selected first team all OVC her junior year and second team all OVC her senior year. Laura has been involved in coaching since her freshman year of high school when she volunteered to coach for the Olney Boys and Girls Club in Maryland. More recently she was the head coach for a WKYFC club team and the assistant girls coach at Graves County High School who were the ‘07 regional runners up.
Stacy Chase started soccer with her dad as the coach on the Mighty Cupcakes. She went to SCAPA starting as a vocal major in the 4th grade and changing to an art major in the 9th grade. She played for Lafayette High School all four years and graduated in 2003. Stacy was given the coach’s award her freshman year on JV. Her sophomore year she played swing and was voted captain of the JV team until she was moved up to Varsity team. Senior year she was voted captain along with Laura Oppegard. Stacy received the 110% award, All Tournament Team, and Gatorade Athlete award while on Varsity. After Lafayette Stacy went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky, with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, her focus in ceramics. Art has been a part of her life as much as soccer. Along with schooling Stacy started coaching the JV team for Sayre and continued for two years. While at college Stacy met her husband and has now been happily married for over a year. She is expecting a baby in March.
Ashley Stigall graduated from Lafayette in 2005 and was a Varsity starter for 4 years on the girls soccer team. While at Lafayette she was awarded All Central Region Team, First Team All State, All Regional Team, All City Team, Lexington Player of the Year, All District and Runner Up in Miss Kentucky Soccer. She was also awarded Most Valuable Player and selected captain her junior and senior year. In '04 she helped lead the Generals to 19-1-1 season. Ashley was also a member of LFC Premier '87 for 6 years and won number of Kentucky State Championships and was awarded team captain. After high school, Ashley attended Georgetown College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 2009. She was a member of the women's soccer team and a starter for 4 years. While at Georgetown she was awarded MSC Honorable Mention All Conference Team her junior and senior year. She was also awarded team captain her senior year and awarded Offensive Player of the Year as the leading goal scorer. Ashley is currently working at Family Practice Associates of Lexington. Her future plans are not set in stone, but after travelling out of the country last year to Albania and Santorini, Greece she would love to find something that would give her the opportunity to travel. Ashley is starting off her coaching career at Lafayette as an assistant coach this year and could not be more excited.
