Thanks to my friend John; who I met through another friend, referred me to an amazing pizzeria that sits on the outskirts of Downtown, and I must say it is the best pizzeria in Houston hands down! With it's small but cozy atmosphere to it's great patio area, you are going to love everything about Luigi's Pizzaeria. This family owned budiness has an amazing range of pizza to choose from at a reasonable price; the Caprese being my favorite, it's BYOB (bring your own bottle), and the gelato is to die for. There are very few places in Houston that allow you to bring your own bottle, and for those that do, they may charge $5 or so, but Luigi's does not. The second time I went to Luigi's, I took a really great bottle of Bordeaux and of course, a few friends so that they could experience this great place as well. Everything on their menu is amazing, but I highly recommend getting the Caprese. It is a basic thin crust pizza that has fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, virgin olive oil, and basil that is simply delicious. But you can add any toppings you may want from Italian sausage, pepperoni, chicken, pineapples, mushrooms, spinach, etc. The Caprese that my friends and I got had chicken, Italian sausage, and pineapples on top of the standard toppings.
Besides the pizza, there is pasta, calzones, and yes, gelato! Again, there is so much to choose from that honestly, I cannot tell you what is best. You must go for yourself to understand how delicious their pizza is. Luigi's is located at 3700 Almeda Road; on the corner of Almeda and Winbern behind HCC. They are open MondayThursday from 11am 10pm, Friday & Saturday from 11am11pm, and now open on Sunday from noon to 8pm. Go and enjoy some great pizza and tell them I sent you!

Feast with the Tribe

Street food is always about mixing different styles together, and very often the simplest of food and one flavor profile is enough to bring it to the top. A Tribe Called Feast first caught my eye in Montrose as a bright yellow truck, almost like a small school van with graffiti art on one side. The menu is not filled with a lot of items but I can assure you their chef Gui Ha足Thuc is one of the best in the business.

First time I came to them honestly I was just hungry and they seemed interesting I didn’t know what to try so I just went for their fried plantains or as they call it yo yo chips. I spoke to Erick and he told me then that they are new. Finally I got a plate with fried plantains and what I describe as cilantro cream on top. I was able to tell from the first bite to the last it was delicious. The fact that it was just so simple and so perfectly prepared that I had to try more from them. So I took on their best seller the beef slider. A small slider with tender beef in the middle and some cilantro I finished it in about four bites but I wished there were more.

Certainly a new truck has come out on the streets and this time it's not flashy signs nor do they have a weird "stoner sciz" look on food where there about a five different flavors and textures that normally don’t make sense and are usually never good. It's just simple food made perfectly. I would almost make it a point to find them every week on either Twitter or Facebook just for the plantains. Even add about two to three sliders and make a meal out of it. This is street food at its finest. Gui and Ericka I wish you all the best and you can expect me to come back to you soon, hungry for more.

Yet again, I was referred to another great restaurant by not only a dear friend, but my mother. She had first mentioned this place a few weeks ago during a brief conversation over the phone and then again a few days before my trip to New York. Once more, I took some friends with me to try this Lola because what better way to enjoy food than with great company. With their massive windows, outside cover patio, and bright orange sign with an bitten orange for the ‘o’, you cannot help but see Lola sitting on the corner of Yale and 13th Street in the heart of the historic Heights neighborhood. You will not be disappointed with their range of food from the classic chicken and waffles to the chicken sopressata pasta dish, they are BYOB (bring your own bottle), they have amazing desserts, and their prices are very reasonable. Lola has an atmosphere of an old school diner, but their food is far from it!
As you enter the restaurant, the aroma of their most popular meal, the Carolina Pulled Pork in Dr. Pepper barbecue sauce will fill your nostrils, in a pleasant manner of course, that will immediately make you want to order it, but do not do it because their menu has so much more to choose from. My favorite item on their menu is the chicken sopressata. Having gone to several restaurants were their portions are either too small or too large; Lola’s serves just enough to fill but not stuff you. The chicken sopressata comes in a delicious roasted garlic and basil cream sauce with penne, grilled chicken, and the best part; the sopressata salami. The sauce does not drown out the other ingredients; there is just enough to coat everything on the plate, and still have some left over to soak up with the slice of garlic bread. The chicken is grilled nicely without being dried

out, the penne is a little al dente; the way I like it, and the strips of salami give the dish an amazing boost with its hot peppers, paprika, sweet fennel and red wine flavors. Now guess how much this amazing dish cost ....wait for it ...$9.95!! Inexpensive and delicious! Pair this pasta dish with a glass of white wine; preferably Reisling, and great company, and you will have an amazing evening at Lola. Go and enjoy Lola's breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Happy Endings
Asian and western cooking have been coming together for a long time. Fusion is apparently the new wave for food in the future to bring about harmony between different cultures. There are a few rare places to eat where they have found the perfect harmony. Hot dogs with Asian toppings may sound a strange but that is pretty much a hot dog. To be a little more precise, the hog dog comes from Houston’s Happy Endings food truck. I found them one night after all my friends were getting out of the club, as always I was hungry, so I walked down to look for any thing to eat and I saw a bright blue truck in front and saw Happy Endings for the first time. It seemed strange at first to see something with an Asian feel but people walking away with hot dogs. At any rate I was hungry and I wanted to eat and what I saw looked good. At first sight of the menu it seems akward but get the Hiroshima dog with tempura bits and scallions, also their pork bun. I could not figure it out but it worked! The texture of the crunchy tempura and the moist dog worked together. However their best creation was the the deep fried pork bun. That is easily my easiest memory I can get a sweet crunchy bun with bbq pork inside. Be careful when eating it, it's hot when it comes out, but it so perfectly put together. They are a tough thing to find as there have been but a few cases where I have had to leave the bar for a few minutes away from my friends to get my hands on a pork bun. Ryan is usually the guy I meet i just to say ill be coming back soon for more.
Kickers
It is tough to see barbecue and street food go together. If you look at them separately barbecue s about slowly cooked meats over long periods of hours and street food is a more fast paced atmosphere where food should be ready in about 10 minutes of it order and be hot. But it is also a very beautiful match if done by the hands of Tony Idank of the Kickers BBQ Truck.

More Fave Food Trucks By Monkey
Tony started this food truck about three years ago in Louisiana before he made his recent move to Houston. After having experience as a chef he decided to be his own boss 3 years ago and started serving food to the people on the street. But what makes him so different is that he truly recognizes what it takes to get the best out of his food. Whenever I go to his truck my favorite pick is his brisket, so perfectly tender juicy and a just enough smoke to make it perfect. Whether you have it as a sandwich or with cheese and barbecue sauce over fresh cut fries. This brisket is specially prepared in 14 hours slowly cooked using a special technique, which is Tony trade secret. What makes it special is that the brisket, which is usually, sliced here can be broken down like shredded beef but will still be able to have the same texture of sliced beef. It also explains how he has managed to use it in different applications, which work for street food. The barbecue sauce the prefect condiment of sweet savory with a hint of spice, also made from scratch just adds more to the food. Tony himself is a humble man always when he was so eager to sit with me as I take mouthful of his brisketloaded fries and explain his philosophy. He simply states that street food should be different. Every truck has his own specialty that makes it worth eating; his happens to be barbecue, which he does exceptionally well. I usually find him outside Boheme Cafe & Wine Bar on Friday nights but unfortunately, Tony has moved to Europe to further his culinary skills. LB2 Mag wishes him the best overseas and anticipates his return!
Im a big fan of the taco, not the cheese filled crispy corn tortilla with the minced meat that can be found pretty much anywhere. Personally they are not even that worth eating. A true taco is a soft tortilla filled with beef, some onions, cilantro and and cilantro. The best place I get my taco is a food truck, more specifically the Taco Truck outside of SouthBeach on Montrose. This place is my perfect example of street food. It is cheap, quick and most importantly, it is food the gods would eat. I was introduced to this place by a friend who recommended the hot dog which is what I would call a “drunk man's hot dog;” a simple sausage with mayo, ketchup, mustard and potato chips. Do not get me wrong, the hot dog is good but for some place that looks like something straight out of Mexico I had to try the tacos. They were heavenly; the meat was moist and tender and so perfectly cooked. It was simple and flavorful and that is all that it needs to be good. I usually see Kathy up in front whenever I reach there after the bar. They have other Mexican dishes like the torta or their burrito which is also not far behind from the taco and are equally flavorful. Also a hint for spicy lovers like myself, I would suggest to get a good squirt of their spicy sauce over the taco. Very rare do I get to see a place that stays to their routes and does not try to do something overly complicated or dumbing down flavors or to make it approachable and that is what I think makes this food truck so special.

stro In 1974 Spencer and Kerstin officially opened their first Buffalo Exchange, ”Buy, Sell, Trade” store in Tucson, Arizona. The idea came to life because Kerstin would constantly shop at other stores looking for bargains and come home with several garments. Her husband, Spencer, thought it would be a great idea to open a store with the clothing his wife had purchased. It was this unique thinking that has made what is now, a fortytwo store, two franchise business.
Buffalo Exchange is still a "Buy, Sell, Trade" company, which comes in handy when you're a college student looking to stay in the fashion trend at an affordable price. It’s also a really useful and quick way to make a few bucks by bringing in your slightly used, like new, items for cash or credit! Their clothes and shoes are slightly used, all of the jewelry is new but still very affordable.
If you’re looking for a wide selection of trendy clothes and a fun atmosphere to shop at you
should definitely consider coming to Buffalo Exchange. Conveniently located off Westheimer and Montrose. Buffalo Exchange Houston is a pedestrian friendly area, with all demographics.

You can come to Buffalo Exchange to look for anything from blouses to shoes to even that final touch of jewelry your outfit may need. It’s definitely a oneÂstop shop to get an entire outfit in one really unique, and trendy store.
I recommend coming to Buffalo Exchange before spending the big bucks at other stores. You should definitely get some friends together and stop by and see what treasures you all will find!

ouston proves to be a city of growth every day and now fashion has been added to its constant changing mode of expansion. We have the strong belief in supporting our on local talent and showing the world that everything is bigger in Texas in the process. The Little Black Book Magazine is proud to say we are working with one of these new local talents named Clarence Lee.
Clarence was born and raised in Houston, Texas and is currently attending the Art Institute of Houston. His clothing line was named D.A.L. after close members of his family, his mother, Deborah and grandmothers, Audrey and Lena. He stated in an interview, “They are also the women I think about when designing… functionality, elegance and simplicity.” What does fashion mean to you? Its art; we truly decorate ourselves to make a statement, consciously or subconsciously. And it also means to be a release for any creative thought I may have; it comes to life on paper or in an actual garment; I’ve released myself creatively for all to see. How would you define Houston’s fashion as a whole? Houston is simply growing. There are a lot of new and great designers here that just haven’t had the chance to showcase themselves, but that is changing. I’ll give the city another three to five years before it is amongst the top; New York and Los Angeles. When did you realize you wanted to be a fashion designer? It was about my sophomore year in high school when I started to just

sketch from boredom, but it wasn't until I did a fashion show for a charity event in New York. That’s when I realized I wanted a career in fashion͞ the rush from constructing the garment, traveling, booking models, etc. was just exciting. I then returned to Houston and transferred from the University of Houston after two 26 LB2 years to Magazine AI.
Are you happy that you chose this profession? I am very happy. I don’t believe I would have been able to be a doctor, lawyer or anything of that nature. Someone has to dress the world, so why not be part of it (lol).
Why did you choose the name D.A.L.? I chose this name because it represents the three important women in my life; mother, Deborah and grandmothers, Audrey and Lena. They are also the women I think about when designing because they all represent what women want; functionality, elegance and simplicity. What is the best part about starting a new collection? Doing the research; silhouettes, newest trends, colors, fabrics, trims, etc.
Where do you get your inspiration from? Outside of my mom and grandmothers, I’m usually inspired by what’s going on around me, the arts and architecture. This current collection was inspired by the clean lines of Jean Nouvel’s Vision Machine on 11th Ave in New York City and the amazing abstract paintings of Michael Keck. What are your favorite fabrics you like to work with? Jersey; women love a little stretch in their wardrobe, silk, cotton and oddly, upholstery fabric. They have some of most beautiful prints and range in different textures, so it’s always amazing to see what I can come up with when using it.

What are your favorite colors you like to work with? Black, grey and red. I’ll always throw these colors into a collection come spring or fall. But I will definitely use any color when thinking of a collection.
What is the biggest misconception do you think most people think when you tell them you’re a designer? That I only design crazy or over the top garments, I target only celebs and that I want to be famous. That’s not what I want and especially not what I want people to think of me. I honestly want to design clothes for that everyday woman. What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing? The cut, fabric, and the finishing techniques are what I look for in a quality garment. I’ve seen very expensive garments constructed beautifully, but the inside looks horrible.
How do you prepare for a fashion show or shoot? The night before, I usually think about everything that I could have improved on in a garment; stitch this, add this, remove that, etc. Then the day of, I try to stay as focused as I possibly can by having everything organized from what the models will wear, to the setup of the set for the shoot or stage. And I drink a lot of Starbucks (lol). Who are some of your favorite designers? Hands down Valentino himself, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, and Jonathan Saunders.
How are you able to balance being a student, working two fulltime jobs and starting a line? I just take one day at a time; some are harder than others but I take each day as a learning experience. I’m always learning something different. When you find yourself with free time, what do you do? I watch a lot of movies, hang out with friends, or sleep (lol).

Make It Fit You & Your Budget By Clarence Lee
The average guy does not care too much for labels, does not pay too much attention to the
latest trends, and is not too fond of spending a lot of money on his clothing; he just wants to be comfortable for everyday life. But there are some musthaves to make every man’s wardrobe functional, cohesive, and timeless without having to spend a lot of money. When it is all said and done, this will not be a guide to the latest trends, but to a lasting and functional wardrobe.
Blazer Think of the blazer as the woman’s little black dress; it is a piece in your closet that you know you can always run to for any occasion. One can be adventurous and buy a turquoise, red or even a white blazer, but having a black or grey blazer will carry your wardrobe further than any other colors. Classic Buttonup & Polo Shirts Dress it up, dress it down. The classic buttonup shirt will take you from work to the bar. If you are starting to build your wardrobe, stick with the solid neutral colors; black, white, grey, and blue. The polo shirt is a little more casual and relaxed, but just like the buttonup, it can be dressed up or down. Remember, stick with solid neutral colors until you have built your wardrobe to where you feel adventurous to buy different colors, prints, stripes, etc. Banana Republic, Zara, Old Navy, Express, and even J.Crew have inexpensive polo shirts, so shop around.
TShirt: Crew & VNeck They say blue jeans are a standard item in everyone's closet, but I believe they have forgotten something; the simple crew and vneck tshirts. Besides a blacktie event, this shirt can be worn anywhere else. Again, it is that piece of clothing you can always run to when you cannot find anything else to put on with those khakis, jeans or slacks. Yes, you have permission to wear this with slacks …and a blazer of course.
Trousers: Slacks & Denim We all would love to be in jeans or a pair shorts everyday, but unfortunately, that is not the case. When it comes to pants, finding the right fit for your body is going to be very important, for we cannot wear the different cuts that are available like we think we can, but that will come in a later article.
There are different types of slacks you can purchase; casual and dress, and just like the blazer, black and grey will be your best colors to go with. I strongly advise that you get a pair of navy trousers as well; they will add a little variety to your growing wardrobe.
Denim can be a lengthy discussion, but we will keep it simple; dark wash. Getting your hands on a pair of dark wash jeans will allow you to transition your look from day to evening. They also slim and elongate the leg. Sounds a little feminine, but trust me, women like to see a man in a nice pair of jeans that fit him properly.

Shoes: Dress, Loafers, Sneakers & Sandals From ankle up, you can manage to find clothing at reasonable prices, but when it comes to the footwear, you will need to invest in some good shoes. Let’s say ninety percent of the time, depending on the conformability, a man will buy the shoe; he does not care too much for the look. Well gentlemen, drop that ninety to fifty. Looks are just as important, and yes, you can find nice shoes at a reasonable price. But do splurge on a good pair every now and then.
Dress Shoe It can be a derby (also known as blucher) or an oxford, doesn’t really matter. Find one that you like and one that will fit your personality. Derbies are more comfortable and more elegant while an oxford is a little tougher to wear and can be casual. Again, find one that suits you best.
