January 10, 2011 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this letter in support of Mrs. Lindsey Bruno on nomination for Stafford County Teacher of the Year. I have known Lindsey for nearly ten years, during six of which we have taught together as choral directors in Stafford County. During her teaching career Lindsey has been a hard-working and talented director, as well as a true educator to her students, and I believe she exemplifies what a ''teacher of the year" should be. As music educators we have a responsibility to our students to provide not only enjoyable experiences but also formal training. In the choral music field, this is most readily seen in the aspect of sight-singing. Sightsinging is the combination of music reading skills with pitch-matching skills- that is, a student can sing music by looking at the printed page, without having heard it first. This is a difficult skill, and one that causes many teachers great frustration. Lindsey has proven herself to be a master sight reading teacher, and her students at North Stafford are some of the most literate musicians I have come across. She has also developed beautifulsounding choirs, and pushes her students to find the limits of their creative and musical abilities. Lindsey is also very active professionally in our state organization for music educators, VMEA. She has ,.....路,erved on the state Repertoire Grading Committee, has served as audition chair for All-District Auditions, and is as voice of leadership within our district. She cares deeply for music and music education, and stays active in order to promote the values she teaches to her students. She is also very influential here in Stafford County- she has hosted All-County Chorus, serves on the Fine Arts Leadership Team, and has served as mentors for new 路 teachers in the county. On top of all the professional responsibilities in her life, Lindsey has time to be a performer and student herself. She has recently completed her Masters degree in Music Education at VCU, one of the finest programs in the state. She also performs locally with the Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg, and has soloed for different groups in the area as a soprano. I have the greatest respect for Mrs. Lindsey Bruno, and I consider her a valued colleague and dear friend. She is the finest candidate I could imagine for Teacher of the Year, and I am proud to offer this letter of affirmation for her. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
