"...let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." ~Matthew 5:16
Summer is finally here!
These are words I remember thinking to myself on the last day of school.
All year long, I looked forward to classes ending and getting to spend time on the things I actually wanted to be doing. I could relax, wake up when I wanted to, and eat ice cream way past my bedtime. Ah, the good life.
But without fail, September would come all too fast, and it was back to the grind (well the child grind). I would always think, “Did I use the Summer well?”
This is a question we should all be asking. It turns out that doing the things we think will make us happy or bring us peace over the course of the Summer don’t always do so. Maybe you planned a vacation, but come home more tired and stressed out than you were before you left. Maybe you did all the things you wanted, and yet received none of the actual outcomes you needed.
In Matthew 11, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” What our souls actually need this Summer is rest. Not artificial or material rest. But real, deep, abiding, rest.
This can only be found in our heavenly Father.
So take the vacation. Finish the project around the house. Stay up past your bedtime and eat ice cream. But just know that deep down, the one who brings real meaning and purpose and joy to these activities is Jesus. Don’t forget that we have all sorts of opportunities to connect with God and one another this Summer at LC3. Let’s use this Summer well, together.

A STORY OF OHANA
Tricia Knack
I’ve had the pleasure of being a youth leader since September 2022, walking with the Class of 2026 girls through all four years of high school with Alison Carlson. It is beautiful and inspiring to see how God is working through these young ladies - and us leaders - in this ministry!
In our first meeting together, we chose some ground rules for how we would treat each other, a name for the group, and the “vibe” we wanted for ourselves. It all came together beautifully: we call ourselves Ohana, the Hawaiian word for family.
The girls are growing in authentic faith as we meet each Tuesday. They are eager to share about their week: struggles, trials, praises, and hopes. As we become more comfortable with each other, we become more vulnerable and share deeply. We love praying for each other through the celebrations and
the challenges of life. Through it all, God receives more and more glory.
We also enjoy serving together. We recently arranged a sewing day with Stitching Sisters to learn to make pillowcases which were then donated to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma. It was touching for all of us to come together and be a blessing to the children. Along the way, we built and nurtured intergenerational relationships and had a great time together.
It is my joy to serve in this ministry and to be encouraged and blessed by these sweet girls.

NEXTGEN MINISTRIES
We are happy to welcome Logan Brown, our new Middle School Ministries Director to LC3!
Hello LC3 Family!
I am Logan Brown, the new Middle School Ministries Director. I was born in Yakima, Washington and spent eight years in Rochester, Minnesota before moving back to Selah, Washington.
With my father being a youth pastor for over 25 years, I grew up in the world of youth ministry. I started serving in middle school ministry during high school and took on responsibilities on the worship and tech team at my church. I knew I was called to ministry the summer after I graduated from high school and pursued a degree in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies from Colorado Christian University.
I am incredibly excited to see what God has in store for the upcoming year in middle school ministry at Lake City Community Church. I am eager to get to know the students and families and to teach solid, biblically-based lessons. With a deep passion for student ministry, I am dedicated to providing a space for students to feel welcome and seen, and to create an environment where they can encounter Christ and find community.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.”

Aaliyah & Giovanni Herrera
Aaliyah Herrera A STORY OF ANSWERED PRAYER
In December, I made a post on a Christian wives of JBLM group asking for suggestions for churches and women’s Bible studies. I received quite a few recommendations, but LC3’s website showed exactly the type of ministries and community resources I was looking for in a church.
On January 21, 2024, we attended LC3. Before I arrived, I asked God to show me if this church would be the one for my husband and me. I had been yearning for a young women’s Bible study group and I wanted to find a home church so that I could finally get baptized.
I walked into LC3 and was immediately welcomed and helped. When service started, the only announcement was a baptism class. I felt that God had answered my prayers. The sermon was amazing and my husband absolutely enjoyed it. Now that my husband was on board, I knew it was the right church for us. But it didn’t stop there! God kept the blessings coming.
During service, I noticed a young lady. The Holy Spirit gave me a feeling about her and right after service she approached me. As we talked she invited me to attend Koinonia and added me to the group chat. While we continued talking, she introduced me to other young women who were a part of the group. Not only did God give me a sign that day, He answered every one of my specific prayers!
I have gained an amazing church family and I feel so welcome and loved by everyone. I have also gained new sisters in Christ who are all so amazing; they make me feel very special and loved. I highly recommend LC3 to people looking for a church. You guys are truly Heaven sent. Thank you.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father
who is in heaven.”
~ Matthew 5:14-16
Chris Peters A STORY OF CELEBRATION
In 2023, my family and I made the decision to leave the church that we had been attending for the last 13 years. It was one of the toughest decisions we have had to make. We had built many relationships and served there for many years; but we were not enjoying going to church and dreaded Bible study. We found ourselves trying to get out of serving in ministries we once enjoyed. We knew this was hindering our spiritual growth and finally, in July, we decided to move on.
Our search for a new church home did not take very long. Road construction in our area had forced us to drive by LC3 for months, so it was the first church that we tried. It’s also two minutes from our house. Turns out that it was the church’s 100th anniversary celebration, and boy, what a celebration it was! We raced home, changed, and came back to join the festivities. Immediately we were welcomed at the registration
Chris & his wife Marisol, with their kids
table, enjoyed great food, and the kids had a great time. Then Pastor Tung gave the sermon. Hearing his sermon that day touched our hearts in the most comforting way. It was almost as if God was giving us peace with the decision we made. We hadn’t been that emotional attending a church service in some time. We have never seen that many baptisms at one time and had a hard time holding back our tears. That day, God told us we were where we needed to be. It didn’t take long before I started serving on the Security Team, Task Force Warrior, and attending EMAW. My family and I thank God for leading us to LC3.
I am excited to be on the volunteer team for this summer’s Party at the Park in hopes of welcoming others experiencing LC3 for the first time.

SERVING OUR COMMUNITY
LC3 meets the needs of our community through the Bread of Life Food Bank and the Benevolence Fund
April-June 2024
44 households requested assistance this past quarter. Of the 44, we were able to assist 26 households.
In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus tells a parable to make a point that when we we serve others, we serve God. After listing acts of service, He lists providing food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, lodging for the homeless, clothes for the naked, healing for the sick. Jesus concludes, ”Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine you did for me.” Imagine Jesus as the ultimate recipient of LC3’s generosity! He asks us to sacrificially invest in the needs of others as a way to serve Him. When we love others, we love God.

Bread of Life Food Bank is a ministry of LC3 to our local community. Our faithful volunteers meet every week to inventory new food, organize and stock the shelves, and on Thursdays transform the Gym Lobby into a food bank.
The Food Bank serves 160 households every week from our community. In addition to groceries, our volunteers are serving friendly smiles, welcoming hearts and listening ears. Mora L., a client, told us: “Your pure kindness and care without judgement nourishes my heart when I’m in need.” It is a much-needed blessing to our community. One client said that without the food bank, she’d have to decide whether to purchase her medication or get gas for her car.
But the clients aren’t the only ones who feel blessed by the Food Bank. Our volunteers also appreciate the opportunity to serve and come away feeling blessed by their time. As Doug said: “It blesses me as much as it blesses our clients.” It’s also an opportunity for growth and to share the love of Jesus. “It’s hours of fun and I love to interact and pray with the clients,” Margie told us.
