JAMES K. POLK 11th 1845-1849 KELTYN LOCKLEAR
JAMES K. POLK WAS BORN 11/2/1795 Sickly child, he had Gallstone’s he was born in N.C., Mecklenburg. At the age of 10 he moved to Tennessee and he did not begin his education until age 18. Within 5 years he
graduated with honors from UNC. And then later he married Sarah Childress. At the age of 27 he was Tennessee's legislature. And at the age of 29 he was the US congress his congressional career lasted 14 years. In 1844 at the age of 51 he was elected president but he served only 1 term. With the hardship of being sick as a child and having to work to help support his family, he didn’t attend school until the age of 18. He lost 2 times to be reelected for congress.
He expanded the land of the US. The United States shared territory with Great Britain. President Polk worked out a peaceful solution to divide the land up. While he was president the Mexican War took place. And the US won the war and a peace treaty was signed with Mexico.
November 2, 1795- He was born 1820- He passed his law exam and became a lawyer. 1824- He and Sarah got married. 1823- He won his first election. 1825- He was elected to the U.S House of Representatives. 1844- He got the surprise of his life, he was nominated by his friends and supporters to run for president of the US. 1845- Texas became a state. 1846- The Mexican War began.
