The 36 president was Lyndon Baines Johnson. President Johnson was born August 27, 1908 in Texas raised by his parents in a home with three sisters two brothers; President Johnson son was the oldest child

President Johnson dealt with and overcome many hardships in his life. As a child his father’s poor farming caused their family to lose their land. Education was a problem for him. He struggled in school but gave great effort and graduated. After high school he attended Texas state teachers college; which is now Texas University, while attending the college he spoke on campus politics and debates. this desire to get involved with politics came from his father’s activities in politics while Johnson was a child.

In 1934 Johnson made a good friend when he met Claudia Alta Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was responsible for using her inherence to fund his campaign to run for congress; and because Johnson office manager for several years.

In 1941 after the bombing at Pearl Harbor the president at the time gave Johnson a position in the U.S naval reserve as a lieutenant Commander. Johnson received a silver star for being active in military effort.

Being the senator of Texas in 1948 led him to be the youngest majority leader of the Democratic Party due to the many connections he made in his party and the knowledge of the other members of legislation political views.

In 1960 president John f, Kennedy requested that Johnson acts as his vice president. Johnson was not fond of this position and began to oversee the space program.as vice president Johnson supported John f Kennedy effort to impose equal opportunities for minorities; and the decision to send American troops to South Vietnam to fight of communist invasions. Nov, 22, 1963 president Kennedy was killed and made Lyndon Johnson president, till the next election.


In 1964 Lyndon Johnson ran for president was elected and began to continue the work of john f Kennedy and Franklin Roosevelt to give minorities more opportunities at a better life as President Johnson made tax-cut and pushed the civil rights act in 1964.

As Johnson became more comfortable in his position as president he insisted on fighting poverty and communism in Asia. Johnson pet project was named the great society. This project purpose was to educate, renew urban areas beautify the environment, conserve and develop bad areas in the country .the great society included that the passing of Medicare and Medicaid, voting rights and led to public broadcasting these effort led to the Civil rights act passing in 1968 four years after john f ,Kennedy proposed it.

The Vietnam War continued and U.S. citizens grew tired of the war and Lyndon Johnson lost the support of his country the stress of this war an America’s Judgments prevented Johnson from running for president again. President Lyndon Johnson died January, 22, 1973. Leaving a legacy behind that change a nation for the Better today many of our citizens still benefit from the hardships president Johnson Fought to overcome the difficulties in his efforts to make America great. If not for the civil rights act, voting rights, better education Medicare or Medicaid focus on urban areas, president Obama may have never got the opportunity to run our country today.
