Lake District Hospital reps will be present at the Lake County Expo providing a wealth of information on services available to Lake County residents. Lake District Hospital Exec. Asst. Jen Antle, l-r, Information Technology and Informatics Dir. Yoemy Waller and CHIP Coordinator John Adams.
!"#$%&"'()*+",-.()-( /)0"(1%'-#%&-(23'*%-)+ By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner Sharing detailed information on the many services and departments available through Lake Health District is the primary goal when representatives from Lake District Hospital will be present at this year’s Lake County Examiner’s Lake County Expo. While the hospital is already a known entity across Lake County, many of its extensive services available are not, from guided injections to rehab therapy and assistance on living a healthier lifestyle. “Lots of people go out of town for some specialty services, when they really don’t have to because it’s already available in their own backyard, they just don’t know it,” said Jen Antle, executive assistant at Lake District Hospital. She is one of several hospital representatives who will be providing information at the Expo. “People should take advantage of all the different services.”
Lake District Hospital staff will have extensive literature available about the many different offerings available, including many of the online services, and the newest upgrades to facilities such as the new MRI machine, geothermal heating system and Lakeview Gardens facility. A computer will be setup at the booth, where Information Technology Dir. Yeomy Waller will demonstrate how residents can sign up for patient portal and online bill pay. Giveaways planned include tote bags, emergency first aid kits and other goodies, with a fitness band provided as a special door prize. The hospital is so much more than an emergency room, with the radiology and rehab departments being highlighted in particular at the Expo, as well as the Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP), which initiates a multitude of proactive programs to help residents live healthier. More advanced specialties include classes provided for CPR and first aid, with certification courses available among many other educational opportunities for the public. From lumbar rehab to vascular studies
and injections, there’s no need to travel great distances outside of Lake County for services offered right here. “Our rehab specialists have so many different skills; pulmonary rehab, cardio pulmonary, occupational speech therapy, better breathers club,” added Antle. “There’s so much offered that many people are simply not aware of.” While the Expo is a great opportunity to learn about all that is offered, Lake Health District goes out of its way to interact with the community to offer up its services, such as with the annual Daly Days event and multiple community events. Spotlighting departments, services, healthy lifestyle programs, facilities, online information and plenty of fun giveaways, the Lake District Hospital booth at the Lake County Expo is a must-stop to learn and interact, doing so just may save a life through learning about healthy life choices. For more information contact the Lake District Hospital at 541-947-2114, or stop by at 700 S. J St. in Lakeview.

Green Mountain offers grilled goodies at Expo By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner Helping to fill hungry stomachs amidst the chaos and fun of the annual Lake County Expo, Green Mountain Bakery will once again be serving up plenty of food and drink options for those in attendance at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Featuring a variety of delicious bites, this year’s Expo will include such standard favorites as hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and more. For the early birds attending the Expo, breakfast options include a sausage, cheese and egg muffin along with their famous donuts. Green Mountain is a Lakeview staple, recently
acquired two years ago by Tanya Douglas from her mother, Helen Barber, who retired after dishing up pizzas and delectable delights as the owner of Green Mountain Bakery for 20 years. The bakery may be best known for its pizzas and donuts, a wellearned word of mouth reputation long established, but they offer a vast array of culinary cuisine. Douglas notes that their french dips, grilled turkey bacon and Swiss sandwiches and Reuben sandwiches are particularly popular. Food is available for dining-in or carry out. Currently Green Mountain features a Tuesday special, offering large pepperoni pizza for just $10

Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Green Mountain Bakery is closed Sundays. While Green Mountain maintains a standard menu, they do on occasion try to fulfill any special and odd requests that come their way, and have at times done seasonal specials, such as a heartshaped pizza provided during Valentine’s Day. Robinson brings hometown loyalty and service to Heating and Cooling By Jimmy Hall Lake County Examiner Especially in Lake County’s sometimes unexpected and unprecedented weather, homeowners need to be prepared for the searing heat in the summer and the negative degree winds and snow in the winter. If not properly prepared for, it could make for some unbearable conditions regardless of hot or cold outside temperatures. Local Shea Robinson and his company Robinson Heating and Cooling have the right equipment and services that will help solve any temperature issue that may plague residential dwellings, most of which will be shown at his Expo booth. Robinson said that among the many choices that are available, he will be featuring the Napoleon 1400 Fireplace and Mitsubishi mini split systems. Being the exclusive dealer for Rheem heating, cooling and water heating products Products in Lake County, he will be sure to feature a good selection of their products as well. With his hometown loyalty mentality, Robinson also has a customer service attitude put into practice. “I service my work to the end,” he said explaining that he offers a one-year service warranty that obligates him to service what he installs for free. “I do a fantastic job every day because I see my customers every day,” Robinson said, “I’m all about hometown service.” For Robinson and his operation, attending the Expo every year, as he has done for several, isn’t about making money or selling product. Instead, it is about getting his name out into the public. Robinson has partnered up with South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD) to be its go-to propane heating contractor for its grant program. He welcomes any questions about how to apply and get a replacement for residents’ woodstoves to come by the booth and ask how it would be possible. “If people want to replace their woodstove for a higher efficiency propane furnace, now is the time,” Robinson said. and Gene Thomas brings a personal touch to insurance Gene Thomas has been serving Lake County for over 34 years.
By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner Since 1925 Country Financial has offered a wide variety of customized insurance and retirement plans to its clients, growing to serve more than a million homes and businesses across the country with a special focus on serving the needs of farmers and rural residents. At this year’s Lake County Expo, Country Financial will be well represented by Gene Thomas, proprietor of the Klamath Falls-based operation, bringing more than three decades of personalized experience alone in fulfilling client insurance needs. Originally Oregon Farm Bureau Insurance Company, in operation since 1948, Country Financial sells life, home, auto, farm and business insurance packages, always customized to fulfill each client’s specific needs. They also provide disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and even retirement plans. For Thomas it won’t be the first time he has represented Country Financial at the Expo, but with it being several years since last appearing in Lakeview at the annual event, the trip is a welcomed opportunity to meet directly with current clients and share information with prospective new customers. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet with Lake County residents personally to say thank you to many of my current clients,”
said Thomas. “But also it’s a chance to meet new people and introduce myself. I try very hard to be diligent in advertising our services to Lake County, but there’s nothing as valuable as meeting face to face.” To help inform residents of the many services Country Financial provides, the booth will feature plenty of brochures and information about products and services, including a computer setup to showcase client online offerings. Thomas will also provide an as of yet unnamed special drawing prize to be given away during the event, with entry forms available at the Country Financial booth. While there are many insurance providers out there, Thomas believes that what makes their operation stand out is personalized service and decades of experience. With over 60 years of experience in the insurance business among his staff and the business providing insurance services throughout southern Oregon for 67 years, they know the needs and concerns of residents in Lake and Klamath counties, doing much more than just solely on the farm service. Their roots stretch deep into Lake County, the first Lakeview insurance policy being sold through the company in 1948. They don’t take a standardized approach to business, listening attentively to a client’s situation and desires to customize specialty packages that fit every individual need. Business hours for Country Financial are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. The office is located at 4240 Hwy 39 in Klamath Falls. For more information contact Gene Thomas at 541-882-3921 or gene.thomas@countryfinancial.com.

Tastefully Simple provides gourmet tastes without gourmet time commitment By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner
With a focus on exquisite tastes combined with simple preparation, Tastefully Simple will present an assortment of delicious products available for purchase and offer taste samples sure to be popular at this year’s Lake County Expo. Deanna Kerr is the regional rep for Tastefully Simple, taking over operations of the popular national brand eight years ago when the previous rep moved away. “I got hooked on the food offered at her parties, so I took over so I could still get it,” laughed Kerr, who will provide information on products and recipes for the cook on the go. “It’s all about gourmet food without needing to have a gourmet kitchen.” Tastefully Simple strives on providing big tastes with little prep time, providing an assortment of sauces, dips, spices and flavorings and an ever-expanding menu of food options. Ever attentive to client needs, Tastefully Simple is launching a new Live Well line of foods, including gluten-free options and healthier choices, with zero ar-

Just because it’s called a dip doesn’t mean it can only be used for that, there are plenty of different recipes to try. They are getting more mainstream with how people are eating today, keeping up with the latest fads and healthy choices. The ingredients they use are very healthy and basic, no chemicals or things I can’t pronounce like many processed foods today.” At the Tastefully Simple booth Kerr will present several of the popular spices and sauces available for purchase, but warns to get there early as some go quick. Orders will be taken for anything unavailable. In addition Kerr will have recipe books and information on the product line, which includes many recipe options on the Tastefully Simple website as well at www.tastefullysimple.com. Highlighting the Expo will be a cooking demonstration on behalf of Tastefully Simple, led by Susan Harmon at 10:30 a.m., showing how easy it is to make bacon-wrapped chicken bayou bourbon bites. KCC to endorse spring term at EXPO By Jimmy Hall Lake County Examiner
Lake County’s extension of Klamath Community College (KCC) will be promoting its spring term at the Expo at their particular booth. The spring term begins Monday, March 30, leaving little wiggle room for Lake County residents to apply for the upcoming term. At the KCC booth, current Lake County students will speak with members of the public about how they have been personally affected by the program. “We want to make sure that the face of KCC is out in the community,” said Lake County Program Coordinator Christy Tveit. She added that their booth will act much like an informative meet and greet for the students and the public to better understand the KCC extension. A major component that sets
KCC apart from other extensions is the ability to connect with instructors 100 miles away via synchronous video classrooms. These give direct video contact with a live instructor giving the same lecture on location at the Klamath Falls campus. In addition to their extensive list of class choices offered in the spring, KCC offers community classes such as flagging classes focusing on traffic and work zone control, an Electronic Medical Record course and a Community Education course. In the near future, KCC is looking to add a welding program as well. Lake County’s KCC extension staff also collaborate with the Lake County Youth Mentor Program to help advertise their community classes. “This is a great opportunity to further their education,” said Tveit, “as it is one of the least expensive colleges in the state of Oregon and they have an opportu-

booth. For more information on the Lake County KCC courses and spring term, call Tveit at 541-9476663 or by email at tveit@klamathcc.edu.

Flynn!s/ U.S. Cellular plan exciting Expo Booths By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner Flynn’s Furniture and Appliance and U.S. Cellular, both businesses operating out of the same building, will bring a wide assortment of products to showcase at the upcoming Lake County Expo, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28. Long-time mainstays at the annual Expo, Flynn’s and U.S. Cellular will be well represented, featuring tantalizing new items to highlight just a sample of what their business offers to the community, from electronics and furniture to some of the lesser known items they carry. “We’ll be bringing a new bedroom set to the Expo,” said Flynn’s Store Mgr. Sandy Gabriel, who joined the business in 1997 after owner Dan Harlan bought the company from his father in 1996. “Since we
keep those downstairs a lot of people don’t even know we have them. Also we started carrying prints in the store, which we haven’t done in many years.” While space is always an issue, Flynn’s hopes to bring as much of a wide variety possible to display all that they provide in products in services, including carpet treatments, paintings, furnishings and electronics. Following the Expo Flynn’s will host their annual spring sale, featuring all carpeting, furniture and appliances on sale March 2-7. “Our spring sale is always a big deal,” said Gabriel. “Its one of only two weeklong storewide sales we have, our spring sale and fall sale.” Flynn’s is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Joining the Flynn’s team will once again be the crew from U.S. Cellular, displaying many of the new phones and tablets on the market as well as providing information on phone and internet services provided. U.S. Cellular provides home phone and internet service, cellular service, tablets and cell phones, modems and mobile hot spots, with the same hours of operation as Flynn’s. U.S. Cellular also offers the lowest phone plan pricing around, with approved credit device financing offered for no interest, finance fees or tax. “U.S. Cellular has really ramped up its development of connective devices,” said U.S. Cellular Store Mgr. Jason Hansen. “Everything from tablets and phones to phablets— a hybrid enlarged screen phone that can do everything a tablet can. US. Cel-

Edward Jones offers sound financial advice By Kurt Liedtke Lake County Examiner
Sound financial planning, investment advice, insurance and a wealth of money-related information will be available at the Lake County Expo thanks to Derek Strubel of Edward Jones. He is the regional rep for the investment firm based out of the Springfield branch of the national corporation. In business since 1920, the 85-year-old company is a leader in retirement planning, college savings plans, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, 401(k)’s and any other financial support needs, a versatile onestop shop geared towards assisting individual and small businesses alike. For Strubel, who has seven years of experience in the business, the opportunity to represent Edward Jones at the Lake County Expo holds special meaning, as
Strubel is a La kev i ew native. A graduate of Lakeview High School in 2001, Strubel gained fame as part of the University of Oregon Ducks Derek Strubel 2003 track and field Pac-10 championship squad as a triple-jumper. He now helps Oregon residents reach new heights in their long-term financial goals. The opportunity to return home and provide a service previously unavailable to much of the citizens of Lake County is one Strubel finds very important. “People from Lake County have never had much exposure to financial advisors and what I do,” said Strubel. “I’m coming to
let people know that they have options. Whether that’s anything to do with investing, 401(k)’s, retirement planning, college fund plans, IRA’s, life insurance, long-term care, or simply advice on how to make money last in retirement. I’m coming to let people know that they have options. I really want to incorporate Lake County into my business, because lots of people could use help but don’t know where to get it. This is my way to give back to the community I grew up in.” Strubel hopes to establish an Edward Jones satellite office in Lakeview someday, making the trek from Springfield each week to assist those back home in need of financial planning. For the Expo though Strubel considers the opportunity a chance to meet and greet and provide some information to those needing it, not so much a grab to gain cli-
ents, though that would certainly be welcomed for those wanting financial guidance on how to maximize their dollar. To him it’s about letting people know that they have options, to provide education on different opportunities should they choose to pursue them, and to help fulfill dreams whether its starting an account for a week-old-baby to setting up an account in the last week of someone’s life. Edward Jones can help guide people through whatever they need. At the Expo, Strubel will have extensive information about college savings plans and some of the basics for establishing financial plans no matter how big or small in scale. For giveaways, Edward Jones will feature a camouflage duffle bag as well as a $50 money tree up for raffle. For more information contact Derek Strubel of Edward Jones at 541-913-0960.

Walls to demonstrate Mary Kay products By Jimmy Hall Lake County Examiner As a seasoned veteran in the skincare products, Deanna Walls has been using Mary Kay products ever since she was 28 years old, acting as a beauty consultant for the company in Lakeview since 2002. “In Lakeview, we are so remote and don’t have immediate access to good quality skincare products,” said Walls of her motivation in becoming a consultant those many years ago. Walls will show and educate onlookers who come by her booth at the Expo on the various lines that Mary Kay has in its inventory. Among these lines are Botanical Effects, which are aimed for teenagers and young women, the Time Wise collection for women 30 to 60 years old, and a new line named Time Wise Repair that is directed for women over 60 years old. “There is something for everyone in all age groups,” said Walls. Men are not left out of the conversation either. Mary Kay’s men’s line, MK Men, consists of facial bars, hydrators, eye cream, shaving foam and aftershave gel. To
further illustrate the line’s effectiveness, Walls said that she gave all the men in her family a product from MK Men and their response was overall positive. Another line coming out for men is the High Intensity Sport collection that consists of hair and body wash. At Walls’ booth, she will have her entire inventory for purchasing, which is all Mary Kay has to offer except for a few specialty items that she doesn’t carry. If there is a specific product that an Expo attendee wants but Walls doesn’t have immediate access to, she can order and have it delivered within 10 days. Walls says that she isn’t so much as dedicated to the trendy eye and cheek colors but more of the overall high-end skincare regimen. Along with her extensive inventory, Walls will have a bargain table where discounted products will be sold at much lower prices. She adds that anyone who buys a product at the Expo will get 20 percent off their purchase. Walls is planning on staying busy at the Expo with a demonstration being held at 11:30 a.m. onstage of Exhibition Building 1. “I am pleased to have been invited to give a demonstration for

Cosmetic guru, Deanna Walls, will feature and demonstrate the many choices of Mary Kay products for the people who come through the Expo on Saturday, Feb. 28. the first time,” Walls said. She added that she has had a regular booth at the Expo for several years. For her debut, a type of clinic will be conducted. Christine Newton will act as model and a canvas for Mary Kay products applied by Walls. “We will start with the very basics of skincare products and move into daytime makeup,” said
Walls. Meanwhile, Walls will fully explain each of the products that are being applied. If there is enough interest by onlookers, there may be an opportunity for six willing participants to take part in the use of selected products and follow along with the application techniques. The demonstration is expected to run around 30 to 45 minutes. Walls explains that the demo will be similar to a home cosmetics party often held by Mary Kay consultants. “The reason why Mary Kay works is because they offer free facials to women in their own homes,” said Walls hoping the demo will have the same effect. The demonstration at the Expo will be an example of what happens at a home party on a slightly different scale. Walls elaborates that those who watch can take what they learn at the Expo and bring it to their own party. “Almost all women want to make their skin as good as possible and at an affordable price,” said Walls explaining that what makes Mary Kay unique is its high quality product that isn’t very expensive for its customers. For more information on Mary Kay, contact Walls at 541-2190009.
Tnet to showcase service at Expo By Jimmy Hall Lake County Examiner
For Tnet staff, good customer and product service go hand in hand. At this year’s Lake County Expo, the staff will get the chance to prove those sentiments and dedication to their potential customer base. At their booth at the Expo, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Tnet staff will be showcasing their services by way of streaming video to an HDTV to prove the dependency and speed of their service. Curious onlookers can also request that their favorite webpage be pulled up to test out the reliability of Tnet Broadband Inter-
SUBMITTED PHOTO
Tnet Broadband staff will be on location to discuss their increased services as well as their astounding customer relations. Shown are Alex Reynolds, l-r, Tommie Dodd, Viviana Reynolds and Kenny Angelozzi. net, LLC. During the Expo, Tnet will be announcing the details of its expansion to Paisley, an effort that staff and management have been working on since last October. Details will
include their plans, ideas, timeline and price points for the service that will be making its way to Paisley residents shortly. Much of this effort is due to the Paisley School Board, who has been instrumental at
bringing the critical commodity to that area. “We are going to be offering a service that is both reliable and budget friendly,” said Tnet’s Officer Mgr. Viviana Reynolds. “It will be good for them to be more connected to the internet compared to what they currently have.” Tnet will also be talking about its “sign up your neighbor program,” a promotion that staff hopes will incentivize their customers to refer their neighbors to also get Tnet Broadband to their residence. Those who do will get a $50 credit onto their account, which inherently is a month’s service. Priding themselves on their astounding customer service, Tnet staff will be on site to answer any questions Expo goers have
when it comes to their online or computer needs. A strong part that Tnet staff prides themselves on is the connection that they have with customers on a personal basis. “It encourages people to sign up because they know who they’re talking to,” said Reynolds. They also contribute to the wordof-mouth for the many new customers that Tnet has signed up, 34 since the beginning of January. Much about what the small numbered staff knows about the community and its essentials come from the long history of living in the area, ranging from eight to 20 years. Tnet is located at 629 Center St. in Lakeview and can be reached at 541-9479999.
