Definition of the IVS: The International Visitor Survey (IVS) surveys international visitors to Australia. The IVS has been conducted every year since 1981 (except 1982 and 1987) and is an ongoing survey of international visitors to Australia to gain insight into their travel patterns and preferences and
other variables such as transport, accommodation and expenditure. The IVS is the most comprehensive survey of international visitors to Australia. Since January 2005 the sample scope has been 40,000 international visitors annually in order to enhance the estimates for smaller regions.
