“Our 2012 born steers graded 54% Prime at just 15 months of age

2 • Leachman Cattle of Colorado

… and they converted better than the feedlot’s average of 6.25 : 1 even though we did not use Rumensin, implants, or beta-agonists. Our 2011 steers graded 99.5% Choice or better with 88.4% Certified Angus Beef and 25.1% Prime.” ~ Jerry Kusser, K Lazy K Ranch Highmore S.D.

K Lazy K Ranch Plan: •

Build the highest carcass quality and feed efficient herd of Angus cattle possible.

Artificially inseminate all heifers and mature cows to the highest $Profit and feed efficient yearling Leachman Angus bulls.

Turn out high $Profit, embryo transplant bulls custom designed for us to maximize the genetic improvement of our cleanup calves.

Calculate Leachman’s $Profit and $Ranch on our females to maximize our rate of genetic improvement. Leachman Cattle of Colorado • 3

He will add milk and carcass to your herd.

Leachman Cattle of Colorado • 5

My bottom line is to run cows efficiently… I want to run as many cows as I can on the country I have while maintaining production, health, and land conservation. I have bought Leachman TopLine bulls that have been selected for feed efficiency. I like uniform, moderate cows that work in my country – we’re getting away from cows that are too big. My expectations are being met.” ~ Greg Harlan, Owner Harlan Livestock Taylorsville, CA

Above and below (spread) Two-year-old heifers by and bred to Leachman bulls… ready to calve.

6 • Leachman Cattle of Colorado

About Harlan Livestock: The large commercial operation runs 3,500 cows and a large stocker program. The cows are summered on high mountain meadows and trucked to lower country for winter. The cows rely on grass year round and are seldom fed. The operation relies on good cowmen, good horses, and good cattle. The outfit’s “Spear Point” brand is carried by a growing herd of quality, commercial Angus cattle.

“We’re proud to call Greg a friend and customer. He has studied $Profit and all that we are doing. He buys many of our best bulls and then puts them to the test in the real world. We appreciate his business.”

Big marbling ET bull out of a powerful donor.

Lot 23 Leachman Cattle of Colorado • 9

“We’ve built a herd with one of the nation’s highest net $Profit, from cow/calf through slaughter.” The cattle…

• Winter graze and range calve at 5000’ in 6” precipitation, heavy sage, desert country, with no hay, and only protein tubs.

• Calve unassisted and then pairs are moved higher to 8500’elevation, 16” semi-arid, mountainous country.

• We AI our yearling heifers. We’ve used Angus and SimAngus from the AI studs, but now we are AI’ing to low BW Stabilizers for more calving ease and more of the crossbred edge.

• All natural service calves are by high $Profit, Leachman Stabilizer bulls. • The cowherd has been sired by all Leachman Stabilizer and Range Maker bulls for nearly a decade

“We are deep into the Leachman program. We want it all. We are really tuned into their information:” • We’re extremely interested in Feed Efficiency, Growth, and Marbling. • We also demand a cow that will perform under true range conditions. • We have come around to accept and believe SProfit and Leachman’s answers to questions such as scores and data supplied on Calving Ease and Disposition, etc.

10 • Leachman Cattle of Colorado

“Our herd’s bragging rights: The ’12 weaned, calf fed steers finished in May of ‘13. When most people were losing up to $150 a head in the feed lot… We made $43 per head!” • The cattle had an incredible 4.8 to 1 Feed to Gain Conversion. • And had 3.8 ADG, graded 80% Choice, and earned a high premium. We about got it all!

“An interesting aside to our ranching journey, is to study where we have been and how far we’ve come.” • Our 1960 - 1980 “baby beef,” straight Angus graded 80% Choice but got discounted for not meeting 650 lb. minimum carcass weights… and had very poor yield grades.

• During the 1980 - 2000 period, other breed and hybrid bulls dropped our Choice cattle down to just 40%

• Now, our 2001 - 2014 Leachman Stabilizer bred cattle, have us back to 80% Choice… with lots of other attributes and advantages!

Ranchers, if you buy top bulls, your calves deserve premiums! It’s hard to get paid for superior calves. Most calves sell at or near the average market price. Now, utilizing Leachman’s unique $Profit technology, we can give your calves a Genetic Merit Scorecard that predicts their feedlot and carcass value. By working with Verified Beef, a calf certification company based in Montana, you can have a third party certificate that predicts the relative market value of your calves. The scorecard predicts what your calves are worth relative to the market average ($10.00/cwt base price). Now, you can get paid for the true value of your superior genetics. Call Leachman’s today to find out more!

Breeding & Structural Soundness Guarantee All Leachman bulls sell with a structural soundness and breeding guarantee. The breeding guarantee is found in the Terms & Conditions found on page 178. Since structural soundness is so critical to a bull’s useful life, we also guarantee all bulls for structural issues related to the soundness of their hooves and legs. If your bull has such a problem within six months of purchase, contact us for a credit in a future sale. Upon confirmation with a veterinary inspection of the problem, we will issue a credit for the purchase price less salvage value. Note that this does not cover the bulls for injury – see the Warranty below for such coverage.

Warranty-A-Bull In an effort to better serve our customers, we offer warranties on all of our bulls. These warranties cover all types of losses, rather than just the death loss covered by normal insurance. If you have a warranty claim, we will replace the animal with one of equal quality or refund your purchase price. The Warranty-A-Bull is available in two levels: Basic or Extended. All SUS purchases must buy the Basic Warranty.

2% Basic Warranty-A-Bull – required on “SUS” Delivered Bulls:

The “Basic Warranty-A-Bull” covers the bull from the time of purchase until 14 days after the date of delivery to the purchaser. The Warranty guarantees that the bull will be sound and capable of breeding at the end of this time period, thus covering the bull while in the care of Leachman Cattle of Colorado as well as during the transportation process. The purchaser must contact LCoC immediately if there is a question as to the bull’s soundness or survivability. This Basic Warranty costs 2% above the purchase price of the bull. Any bull(s) picked up at the Horton Research Facility in Wellington, CO will not be charged a Basic Warranty, unless specifically requested by the purchaser.

Optional 7% Extended Warranty-A-Bull: An “Extended Warranty-A-Bull” is also available for purchase on any bull. The Extended Warranty guarantees that the bull will remain sound, fertile, and alive during the six-month period immediately after delivery. The cost of this Extended Warranty is 7% above the purchase price of the bull. The 14-day Basic Warranty is not necessary if the Extended Warranty is purchased. Claims: A “Leachman Warranty Claim Form” filled out by a licensed veterinarian must accompany all Warranty claims. The Claim must be filed within fourteen days of the end of the warranty period. The warranty does not cover losses due to neglect or gross mismanagement. Bulls that are missing or unaccounted for cannot be claimed. In the instance of a fertility re-testing, the bull must weigh the same or more than his posted, adjusted yearling weight. If the bull falls short of this weight, then he must be re-conditioned to meet the weight and then be re-tested. Leachman Cattle of Colorado has the right to request a second veterinary exam at Leachman expense or to have the bull returned to our Horton Research Facility in Wellington, CO at Leachman expense. In any case, the salvage value of the bull is the property of Leachman if any such value exists. Leachman Cattle of Colorado must be contacted before any animal is destroyed or salvaged except in extreme cases where humane animal treatment requires immediate action. Failure to follow these procedures will make the warranty null and void.

Terms on Retained Interest Bulls All bulls in the catalog sell with a retained ½ semen revenue interest, unless otherwise announced. Leachman Cattle of Colorado and the cooperator that raised the bull will own this interest – 25% each. We plan to sample a number of bulls in the sale and we will indicate such bulls in the catalog, or from the block. In order to do so, we will collect adequate semen to allow our use of the bull via AI, while you will have full possession of the bull. As always, we will attempt to accommodate the buyer regarding the delivery dates on these bulls. Buyers needing immediate possession on such bulls should visit with us prior to the sale to find out if we have already acquired adequate semen to release the bull immediately. As sold in the sale, Leachman and the buyer each have the right to sell semen independently on any bull in the sale. The buyer may elect to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights on ½ interest bulls buy paying 200% of the final bid price on the bull at the time of the sale. In the event that the buyer elects to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights, Leachman will still retain a within-herd interest right to use the bull within its own herd and within cooperator herds. This right will entitle Leachman to collect no more than the lesser of 1/3 of the semen the bull produces or 500 units per year.

Genetic Defect Guarantee While genetic defects have been known in beef cattle for decades, recent trends towards stacking EPD’s and consequently bloodlines have made their occurrence more commonplace once again. In addition to the traditional defects such as dwarfism, the widespread presence of arthrogryposis multiplex (AM or curly calf) has heightened breeder’s awareness and concern over defects. A new abnormality, an extreme form of hydrocephalus has also been found in 10% of the Angus population including Future Direction and Analyst. At LCoC, we are committed to eliminating defects from our population. As such, we have tested all current sires with parent carrier pedigrees for the AM, NH, and OS defect. Furthermore, we have tested all progeny of carrier sires. Carriers are so noted in the sale and sell without guarantee. We are offering to test any carrier pedigree animals for the AM, NH, or OS defects at our expense if so requested by the buyer to delivery. Beyond this, all cattle sell per the Terms & Conditions listed on the last page of the catalog.
