One Year Guarantee!

Leachman Cattle of Colorado is offering a one year guarantee on all bulls that we sell. This guarantee will cover your purchased bull(s) against death, injury, infertility, and loss of use. If, during the first year from purchase, you lose the use of your Leachman bull for whatever reason, we will give you a full credit towards the purchase of a new bull. We only ask that your herd veterinarian provide a written statement describing the death, injury, or infertility. If the bull in question can be salvaged, we would like you to keep the salvage value, and a credit will be issued, less the salvage amount you receive for the bull. If the bull completes a full breeding season, then the credit will be given at 75% of the original purchase value (less any salvage value). All claims must be made within 1 year from the date of purchase. Example 1: Your $5,000 bull dies before you turn him out to breed. You receive a full credit of $5,000. (Purchase Price - $0 Salvage - $0 Use). Example 2: Your $5,000 bull injures his scrotum after you pull him from the cows. You sell him for $1000 in salvage. You receive a credit of $2,750 ($5000 purchase - $1000 salvage - $1250 usage). Requirements for claims: 1.

All claims must be made within 365 days of purchase.

2.

A veterinary statement regarding the circumstances is required.

3.

A verbal agreement from Leachman Cattle of Colorado is required prior to a bull being sold for salvage. Documentation of the salvage value of the bull, including identification of the bull on the sale barn ticket, that corresponds to the bulls Leachman identifications (ear tag or metal clip) is also required.

This credit can be used for the purchase of bulls, females, semen, and/or embryos from Leachman Cattle of Colorado. If the credit is not used within 24 months of the date of issuance, then it will expire.

Note: Guarantee will be revoked on all bulls that are not paid for within 30 days of invoice date.

$PROFIT

TM

Are all small cows really efficient? There seems to be a big disconnect in today’s beef industry.

On sale day we want heavy, high quality steers to pay the bills. The rest of the time we want efficient cows to keep our costs as low as possible. Simply selecting for smaller cows with no regard for feed efficiency is not the answer. Likewise, selecting for shear growth with disregard for cost is just as poor of a strategy. The best way to make your cowherd truly efficient, and your calf crop earn more, is to use Leachman $Profit™. This is the only index in the industry that works on both sides of the ledger (production AND cost). Cows that work! Steers that pay!

How $Profit works:

What traits are included in $Profit:

Our simulation model then factors in all of the effects on both income and expense to come up with a net profit figure for each bull. $Profit allows you to compare any two bulls and calculate the difference in profit that they are expected to generate in your herd. Let’s compare a $10,000 $Profit bull to $6,000 $Profit bull (the average 2008 born Angus bull). The predicted difference between the bulls is $4,000 or about $40 per calf. $Profit works for us and it will work for you too.

Some traits are not so easily characterized for $Profit. Milk, for example, is a good thing until you get too much. When over +25, milk EPD has a more negative effect on fertility than it has a positive effect on weaning weight. There are a few traits not yet included in $Profit: longevity, structure, and disposition. These traits are important but difficult to express in dollars.

$Profit assumes that the average commercial bull will have 100 progeny over its lifetime. The model assumes that you keep 30% of your heifers as replacements and that you retain ownership on the remainder of the calves through finishing and sell on a grid. We realize that many don’t retain ownership, but doesn’t it make the most sense to select from birth all the way to slaughter? Feedlots have already proven their willingness to pay premiums for superior Leachman sired calves.

$Profit includes nearly every trait that impacts profitability. The effect of most traits on profit is fairly simple to understand. Here is the list of what is included and its effect: Revenue Traits ▪▪ Calving ease = more calves ▪▪ Weaning and Yearling EPD = more weight ▪▪ Fertility (days to conception) = more weight and more calves ▪▪ Carcass weight = worth more up to 1050 lbs. ▪▪ Marbling = valued based on grid premiums ▪▪ Ribeye area = value as impacts yield grade ▪▪ % Retail Product = more yield is more meat Cost Traits ▪▪ Cow mature size = in general bigger eats more ▪▪ Cow intake = more intake costs more ▪▪ Feedlot feed efficiency = cost of gain

Star System Explained:

Accuracy: The sire’s level of accuracy is determined by the number of progeny that have been evaluated in the Leachman System.  Several progeny recorded, use with confidence (over 90% accurate).  Pedigree and individual data only (about 30% accurate). Calving Ease: The predicted calving ease if you use the bull on heifers.  The easiest calving bulls in the industry.  Use on smaller heifers with minimal assistance needed.  Use on larger heifers with some assistance expected. (If no stars are shown, the animal is recommended for use on cows only.)

Good Better Best

qqq qqqq qqqqq

Growth: A formula combines WW and YW to predict how much performance the sire will pass on to their progeny.  Most growth. Maternal: An estimate of the maternal efficiency of the daughters this sire will produce. It includes cow size, milk, fertility and growth.  Keep these heifers! They will make the most profitable females in the business. Feed/Carc: A formula that combines: gain, conversion, carcass weight and carcass merit to predict post weaning performance.  Maximum overall value in your feeder calves. Disposition: An observation of the sire’s disposition.  You can walk up to and touch.  Average - respects flight zones and handles well, but is not a pet.  Nervous. Page 2

Across Breed Comparisons

Dare to compare: You cannot afford to make mistakes in your breeding program! Choosing to use sires with incomplete or low value data can unknowingly make your herd less profitable – same work, same cost, poor results - unacceptable. Leachman ABC’s are the most reliable and comprehensive EPD’s in the industry. They are backed by a large (nearly a million), long-standing (over 30 years), multi-breed (over 15 breeds) database. Using this system assures you of making sound breeding decisions with minimal risk of failure.

“Our Stabilizers thrive on our Southern Ohio fescue country. Our calves consistently wean

heavy and top the market.

It’s working.”

(970) 568-3983

~ Robert Shugert Shugert Farms Saint Clairsville, OH

Page 5

“We have a long family history of raising heavy calves. Then we used Leachman Angus bulls and later Leachman Stabilizer bulls…. And that is saying a lot because my grandfather back in 1931, was a sharecropper whose calves were known their heavy weights. Since then, Angus and Beefmaster were introduced into the herd. Today, with the Leachman influence our calves… - are 250 lbs. heavier with 650 lb. pay weights, usually marketed in Oklahoma City - are more uniform in their type and weight - better type, competing in the market place - and we have less problems like bad feet and prolapses I have successfully experienced lots of the multi-facets of the Leachman program. We have used upwards of 30 of their bulls. Also, we’ve AI'd to their top sires and contracted embryo calves back to Leachman. They have a reputable program that's been widely recognized in the industry for decades." ~ James Isaacs Magazine, AR

Page 6

Now, my herd is more uniform… my calves are heavier… and they are worth more.” “My three year olds along the road are ambassadors for my herd. They are real ‘road stoppers'. Photo was taken out of vehicle on the highway.”

“Pictured are 60 of my fancy springing two-year replacements. They stack generations of my genetic progress.”

“I am reaping greater efficiencies in my cowherd: – my mature cow weight reduced as much as 150 pounds – and the amount of grain required to winter my cowherd has been greatly reduced… by three truckloads “

Mount Magazine, AR

Page 7

“My big eye opener! In the 1990s I read in the magazines about Leachman Cattle Co. If I had listened and followed what all was being said, I’d be at the top of the game today. I didn’t want to raise commodity cattle and just be a price taker. So, 25 years ago, we started using Leachman bulls. Over that period we bought about 14 bulls, mostly sight unseen. We were very pleased with them. In fact, three Leachman bulls in particular sired almost all our cowherd replacements. One bull did not work out. Lee Leachman told me to ship him to market and he sent us a replacement…one of the best bulls I have ever owned! Today…I lean towards Leachman Red Stabilizer bulls.”

My ‘eye openers’ were these two big ZEROS:

Early on we put some of our calves on feed in Oklahoma. Our Bos Indicus cross cattle graded ZERO CHOICE OR HIGHER… and our other calves, many Leachman sired crossbreds, graded Zero SELECT OR LOWER. That was an eye opening game changer for me.

Page 8

“I like the Leachman Stabilizer cattle. I make a living selling my forage through my cattle. Stabilizers offer me the possibility of ‘having my cake and eating it to’. They represent to me more than just pounds…such as the live production efficiency of those pounds…and the quality and value differentiating those pounds of meat. The Leachman’s $Profit number indicates the relative value added for all industry sectors… on the Ranch, in the Feedlot, and total value through to the packer. Simply, I want low birth weight calves that grow, heifers that breed, settle and make moderate, hardy, easy keeping cows…and steers that make Choice grade or better. That’s my ‘cake and eat it’ goal.” ~ Rusty Daniel Coleman, OK

“I learned in order to get what your cattle are worth, you need to be prepared to keep’em till they are in the carcass. First, YOU need to know their value in the feedlot and on the rail. How can anyone else know if you don’t? If no one will step up and bid you that value…You’ve got to own or partner them all the way to the cooler”

(970) 568-3983

Page 9

“I've used 151 Leachman Stabilizer

bulls on my mama cows I use only Stabilizer bulls.

Since 2005 I have owned 151 Leachman Stabilizer bulls. I like’em cause I can stay with Stabilizers all the way, not changing breeds to retain my hybrid vigor in my bulls, calves and cowherd." ~ Brett Foster Booneville, AR

My bulls do most of the work.

They service the cows and make my genetic improvement. They are the “profit driver” in my herd. Their $Profit figures tell me everything I need to know. I keep it simple… The Leachman Stabilizer name and their Hairpin brand sure help when the time comes to sell the calves.

A quantum leap – The knockout BWF heifer calf and old Braham cow pictured are a mother-daughter pair.

Status of our cowherd: – 85% of our cowherd is at least one generation Stabilizer sired – Our young females are up to 3 and 4 generations Stabilizer sired – Cow size is down, without suppressing production…in fact production is still going up – We see our cows more uniform… while continuing to maintain our level of hybrid vigor – Disposition is quite a bit better. The 2s and 3s are easier to handle than we were used to – Visitors are amazed at the herd’s nice udders

“You can see in real time, the living proof of why our Stabilizer calves topped the mid-Sept. Ft. Smith Livestock Auction Co., Moffett, OK.” ~ Brett Foster Booneville, AR

Results marketing our 2018 calves… straight off the cows bawling: – 592 steer calves had a 714 lb avg. pay weight, topped market $151.42 cwt, and netted $1,080 per head – All the steer calves…top to bottom. Only 10 head cut back at the farm for color and structure – large string which held their weight together, without any weaning process – 80 were out of two year old heifers – 302 heifer calves had 629 lb avg. pay weight, sold for $145.92 cwt to net $920 per head. – 275 head of heifer calves retained There is a reason they call them ‘Stabilizer’ off the top for breeding replacements Our Leachman Stabilizer bulls totally dominated the type, color, performance and marketability of these calves out of our crossbred cows, pictured Sept. 4, 2018, a couple of weeks before they sold.

Leachman Stabilizers – 30 years in the making! • Built on Science: First designed in the 1970’s by USDA ARS scientists at the Meat Animal Research Center as the Marc II composite: ¼ Red Angus, ¼ Hereford, ¼ Simmental, ¼ Gelbvieh. • Privatized: A private herd was developed by Pat Vinton, Gordon, NE and later sold to the Tessari family in Babb, MT – thus becoming the foundation for the Leachman Stabilizer herd. • Modernized: From 1988 – 2003, Leachman modernized the Stabilizer composite: ▪ Reduced the birth weight. ▪ Made the cattle solid colored and polled.

▪ Increased the post weaning gain. ▪ Improved convenience traits including

disposition and udder quality. ▪ Introduced black lines in addition to the original red lines. ▪ Injected top hybrid and purebred sires form the Angus, Simmental, and Gelbvieh breeds. • Moved to Colorado: In 2003, Leachman Cattle of Colorado was formed with a nucleus of cooperators that included the Tessari herd and several other Stabilizer cooperators. • Selected with $Profit: LCoC began selecting the Stabilizer using $Profit with significant results: ▪ Dramatic further reduction in birth weight while increasing yearling growth. ▪ Significant improvement on marbling to now exceed average marbling Angus cattle. ▪ Substantial selection for reduced feed intake and improved feed efficiency. ▪ All of which coincided with a huge annual progress on $Profit. • Expanded Internationally: In 2016, Leachman offered genetic analysis services to Stabilizer breeders in the UK, New Zealand, and Australia. This expansion increased the total Stabilizer herd being selected for $Profit to over 20,000 breeding females. Genetics are now flowing to and from each of these herds – increasing the rate of global selection improvement.

Excerpts from a 2001 letter written by Dr. Keith Gregory, Research Geneticist at U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) to Jim Leachman: “Your contributions to beef cattle breeding are unmatched in the history of beef cattle breeding. No one has had a greater impact on beef cattle breeding on a global basis. I have stated on several occasions that no one is implementing more of the available beef cattle breeding technology than Leachman Cattle Company.” Page 14

are appropriate association EPDs without any adjustments. 18. Birth weight EPD/ABC expressed on an Angus scale (or breed scale for Red Angus, and Charolais). 19. Weaning weight EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 20. Yearling EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 21. Milk EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. This is the best predictor of a bull’s daughter’s ability to milk. It measures the difference in weaning weight that will be produced between one bull’s daughters and another bull’s daughters due solely to milk.

30. $Feeder: This number is expressed in terms of the bull’s added value to the sale price of your feeder calves. It is expressed in dollars per head. Thus when comparing a +100 bull vs. a +50 bull, we expect the first bull to sire calves worth $50 per head more at weaning (regardless of their weight). 31. $Profit™ EPD: One, simple, proven number that gives each trait a weight according to its impact on profit. 32. FT: Indicates the bull was individually measured for feed intake. Bulls without this notation, were not individually measured. Unmeasured bulls have EPD’s based on their parental average. 33. PAP: PAP EPD. Read more on pg 180. Key to bull comments:

22. IMF is the ultrasound based EPD/ABC for marbling expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale.

• Any reference to % rank is the percentile rank within that bull’s breed. Top 1% means the animal ranks better than 99% of the population on that trait.

23. REA is the ultrasound based EPD/ABC for ribeye area expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale.

• Reference to the number rank (i.e. #2 $Profit) is the bulls rank within his breed within the sale bulls for that trait. So, #4 F:G ST means the 4th best Feed:Gain Stabilizer bull in the sale.

24. MWT is the predicted mature weight of daughters that you will get if you use the bull on a 1250 pound cow. If your cows weigh 1350, add 100 to this predicted weight. If your cows weigh only 1150, subtract 100 from this predicted weight. This EPD is the best indicator of daughter size -- far better than frame score or yearling height. 25. F:G is the pedigree estimated feed to gain EPD that predicts the feedlot efficiency of the bulls offspring. A negative number means that the bull’s progeny will feed more efficiently. Example: -0.50 means that the bulls progeny will require ½ pound less feed per pound of gain. 26. Intake: is an estimate of the amount of feed that the bull’s progeny will consume over a 112 day feeding period. It is expressed in pounds. Animals with higher intake will consume more throughout their life. Animals with lower intake will consume less. 27. YHT is an EPD, expressed as frame score, predicting the yearling frame score of a sire’s progeny, compared to that of other sires. 28. SC is an EPD, expressed in centimeters, predicting the yearling scrotal circumference of a sire’s progeny, compared to that of other sires. 29. $Ranch EPD: This Leachman profit index that predicts weaning profitability based on calving ease, weaning weight, maternal milk, cow cost, and FERTILITY. Based on producing 100 calves. This EPD assumes a slide on calf prices of $10 / cwt. (970) 568-3983

• All bulls are evaluated for foot soundness. Bulls below a 3 score are deemed to have less than desirable hooves. 2.5 Feet = flatter heal and/or slightly longer toe. 2.0 Feet = flatter heal and much longer toe. 1.5 Feet = evidence of toes curling in on front or hind feet. All such bulls’ feet have been trimmed and sell with our complete guarantee. • Other abbreviations used in the comments include: • Dam 5@101 NR – indicates that the bull’s dam has five calves with an average weaning ratio of 101 • WR & NR = weaning or nursing ratio. How the calf ranked within herd on their adjusted weaning weight. • YR = yearling ratio. How the calf ranked within herd on adjusted yearling weight. • AWW = adjusted 205 day weaning weight. AYW = adjusted 365 day yearling weight. • REA & IMF = either adjusted data or ratios for ultrasound ribeye area and inter-muscular fat (marbling). • ADG = average daily gain on test. WDA = weight per day of age at a year. • Stay = the Red Angus EPD for Stayability. This predicts the likelihood that a bull’s daughters stay in the herd. +14 means that 14% more of this bull’s daughters will be in the herd at age 6. Page 27

In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the farm of the Seller, if in good condition and in compliance with the health requirements of the Seller’s state. The Seller shall be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the Seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the Seller shall, at the option of the Buyer, replace the animal with another of equal value or grant the Buyer a credit for use on any products marketed by the Seller. Such credit of the full purchase price shall, in any case, be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. Any adjustment provided for herein shall absolve the Seller from further liability, except in case such female proves to be a non-breeder. If a female represented as “safe in calf” at time of sale to a certain bull proves to have been bred to a different bull, the Seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the Seller (adjustments shall not be considered to be a breeding fee or an allocation of the purchase price to any unborn calf). Any expenses incurred for transportation shall be the responsibility of the Purchaser, except that the Seller shall be responsible for transportation costs in excess of the distance between the Purchaser’s farm and the location where the sale took place. 4. If a female sold as “served” proves not to be in calf, or if a female sold as “pasture-bred” proves not to be in calf, the Seller only guarantees such female to be a breeder. 5. If a female sold as “open” proves to be with calf, the Purchaser may return the animal to the farm of the Seller prior to calving for a credit of the full purchase price or for another animal of equal value, whichever is acceptable to the Purchaser. It shall be the obligation of the Seller to bear any expense incurred for transportation. GENETIC DEFECT AND PARENTAGE GUARANTEE 1. All animals are guaranteed not to produce a calf with the following defects: Dwarfism, Double-muscling, Parrot Mouth, Osteopetrosis (marble bone disease), and Syndactylism (mule foot), and Arthrogryposis Multiplex (curly calf). The parentage of all animals bred by the Seller is guaranteed to the extent that the animal is by the Sire and out of the Dam indicated on its registration paper. These guarantees are effective for a period of two years from date of sale only under the following conditions. a) The Buyer shall notify the Seller in writing immediately upon the birth of a calf suspected of being defective or immediately after determination is made that such calf is defective, or if parentage is suspected or found to be in error. b) The Seller, at his expense shall be permitted and provided, with reasonable opportunity, to obtain blood samples of an alleged defective calf and its sire and dam for the purpose of blood type/DNA analysis to establish parenthood. In the case of suspect parentage, the Buyer at his expense, shall be permitted and provided, with reasonable opportunity, to obtain blood samples of the animal in question and its sire and dam for the purpose of blood type/DNA analysis to establish parenthood. If sire or dam, as indicated on the animal’s registration paper, is proven to be in error by such analysis, the Seller shall reimburse Buyer for cost of such analysis. c) The animals will be returned by the Buyer to the Seller at the Buyer’s expense; provided the animal meets the health requirements for the Seller’s state. d) The replacement of an animal with another of equal value or the refund of the purchase price, in connection with a defect producing animal or an animal whose parentage is in error, shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. 2. In the event there is a dispute as to whether or not a calf is defective, or parentage is in error, “determination” referred to in Paragraph 1a above shall be made by a person or persons acceptable to both the Buyer and Seller. In the event that Buyer and Seller cannot agree on the selection of such person or persons, then each of them shall appoint a representative to make the determination. In the event that such representatives fail to agree, a third person selected by the representatives of the Buyer and Seller shall make the determination. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the Buyer and Seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. Neither the sale manager, nor any other person connected with the management of the sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.
