To participate in the sale you must register at SALEDAYLIVE.COM
Sale Day USA - the industry’s most user friendly online auction format. Bidder Registration: (required of new bidders only) complete application process early to avoid approval delays!
Proxy Bidding: Computer auction program will securely maintain and advance bids at minimum increments as needed. A GREAT tool to use! No Sale Order Format: At the close of the sale, all lots will simultaneously go into an extended bidding period that is reactivated by bids placed within the set extended bidding period. No pressures of typical fast paced auctions and plenty of time to make your important seedstock purchasing decisions.
Here is some more information to help with the bidding process: What’s BigBoard? This is where you can view all lot bidding at the same time. We recommend you use Big Board to watch the auction and be sure to refresh your browser to get the most current bid. And you can just click on a lot number on BigBoard to get detail information, see pictures and bid. What’s that countdown timer thing under the header? A Buyer’s Choice Auction means that all lots sell at the SAME TIME. The countdown timer tells you how much time is left before the entire auction concludes. If extended bidding (where an additional time interval is added to the time left every time someone places a bid.) is in effect, the countdown timer may add time to Time left. Where can I see the sale offering? To view all lots, click the View Sale Offering menu tab. Then to see additional details, click on the individual lot# for additional pictures. Do I have to register and login to see the sale offering? No, you can watch the Big Board and View the Sale offering without registering. But if you want to bid or setup a watchlist, you must register and setup a username and password. At that time, you will be assigned a bidder #. How do I get a bidder # so I can bid? You are assigned a bidder # when you register. To register, visit www. SaleDayUSA.com and click on the link to the Leachman online auction page. On the auction page, select “Register”, fill in all required fields and click the Register button at the bottom of the screen. How do I bid? From the Big Board, click on the lot # and you will be taken to that lot’s Detail screen or from View Sale Offering , you’ll see a My Bid Box. In either case, you have to be logged in with the user name and password you received when you registered to bid. For a manual bid, type your bid amount in the My Bid box and press Send. For a ProxyChoice bid, check the ProxyChoice bidding box above the MyBid box and then type in your maximum bid amount and press Send. You will be taken to the ProxyChoice screen where you can confirm your bid and even add additional bids for other lots. What is a ProxyChoice Bid? A ProxyChoice Bid is the highest dollar amount the bidder is willing to pay for a lot. In its most simple form, the bidder decides the maximum amount he will pay for a particular lot. Visit www.SaleDayUSA. com for a full explanation for the ProxyChoice Bid process. What is a Bid Increment? The Bid Increment is the minimum dollar amount that the bid must be raised. You can bid higher than the Next Bid price (Current Bid plus bid increment) but the computer will not let you bid less than the displayed “NEXT BID” amount. What is Extended time bidding? Extended Times means that the auction is not declared closed until there have been a certain number of minutes of inactivity. If there is any bidding during the inactivity period, the auction is extended until there is no bidding during the inactivity period. You can always check the Expires In: info that appears on several screens. Seller chooses length of inactivity period. (Ranging from 10 to 2 minutes). How do I know I won? If you are the high bidder, the system will send you an email when the auction ends. You will also receive an invoice by email. The invoice email will have complete instructions on payment. How can I make sure I am seeing the most current bidding information on the screen? During the bidding process you should refresh your browser to ensure you are viewing the most current bidding screen. We recommend viewing the sale on the BigBoard screen for quickest refreshes. Is my countdown timer 100% accurate? Since your own computer may not exactly match the time on the auction server computer, the countdown timer is only an ESTIMATED time. Refreshing your browser will make your time more accurate but we do NOT guarantee that your countdown time will match the auction server countdown time. Should I wait until the last second to make sure I get the bid and someone else doesn’t beat me to it? NO!! Remember the extended time feature! Even if you do bid very close to the end of the auction, as soon as you place your bid, the auction is extended by 5 or 10 minutes. (depending on seller’s choice.) And, remember, your countdown timer is only an ESTIMATE. If you wait until the last few seconds, your countdown timer could be off by a few seconds and the auction will be declared closed before you have a chance to place your bid. If I win, how and when do I pay? When you win an item you will receive an email that will give you complete details of your purchase. You indicate method of payment you want to use when you register. do I contact with my questions? 2 Whom • Leachman Cattle of Colorado Contact Sale Day USA at 877-505-0914.
$PROFIT Why $Profit helps:
Today, ranchers have too much data to study. With over 20 EPD traits and so many measurements, buying the best bull has become really confusing. Every bull is good on some traits and weak on others. The challenge is figuring out how each of those traits is going to impact your bottom line. We wish we knew which bull would make the most money from birth to slaughter, but most of the time, we end up guessing. Back in 2005, we decided that we didn’t want to guess any more. Dallas Horton asked Lee Leachman to come up with one number that sorted the bulls on their bottom line impact – so we did. Since then, we have provided $Profit on all bulls we sell. Furthermore, we are basing almost all of our own selection decisions on $Profit. Literally, we are putting our money where our mouth is. Let me tell you a story about two bulls that we bought a few years ago from the same sale. Both bulls had complete performance data, ratios, ultrasound, and even feed efficiency data. They were both the same breed. After the sale, we added their herd’s data into our database to calculate EPD’s and $Profit. One bull came out at $8,374 and the other came out at $14,258. That is a huge difference – one bull was a great buy and the other was an expensive mistake.
How $Profit works:
$Profit assumes that the average commercial bull will have 100 progeny over its lifetime. The model assumes that you keep 30% of your heifers as replacements and that you retain ownership on the remainder of the calves through finishing and sale on a grid. We realize that many don’t retain ownership, but doesn’t it make the most sense to select from birth all the way to slaughter? Feedlots have already proven their willingness to pay premiums for superior Leachman sired calves. Our simulation model then factors in all of the effects on both income and expense to come up with a net profit figure for each bull. $Profit allows you to compare any two bulls and calculate the difference in profit that they are expected to generate in your herd. Let’s compare a $10,000 $Profit bull to $6,000 $Profit bull (the average 2008 born Angus bull). The predicted difference between the bulls is $4,000 or about $40 per calf. $Profit works for us and it will work for you too.
On the Ranch, In the Feedlot, & On the Rail, ™ $Profit simply works!
TM
What traits are included in $Profit:
$Profit includes nearly every trait that impacts profitability. The effect of most traits on profit is fairly simple to understand. Here is the list of what is included and its effect: Revenue Traits ▪▪ Calving ease = more calves ▪▪ Weaning & yearling EPD = more weight ▪▪ Fertility (days to conception) = more weight and more calves ▪▪ Carcass weight = worth more up to 1050 lbs. ▪▪ Marbling = valued based on grid premiums ▪▪ Ribeye area = value as impacts yield grade ▪▪ % Retail Product = more yield is more meat Cost Traits ▪▪ Cow mature size = bigger eats more ▪▪ Cow intake = more intake costs more ▪▪ Feedlot feed efficiency = cost of gain Some traits are not so easily characterized for $Profit. Milk, for example, is a good thing until you get too much. When over +25, milk EPD has a more negative effect on fertility than it has a positive effect on weaning weight. There are a few traits not yet included in $Profit: longevity, structure, and disposition. These traits are important but difficult to express in dollars.
Feed Efficiency Explained: Feed:Gain: Difference in the amount of feed a bull's progeny will consume to produce one pound of gain.
Example: A -0.50 F:G EPD means this animal's progeny will consume 1/2 pound less feed per pound of gain than would progeny of a 0.00 F:G EPD sire.
Feed Intake: Difference in feed con-
sumption of each of a bull's progeny in a 112 day feeding period. Example: A steer whose sire has a -100 Intake EPD will eat 100 pounds less feed in 112 days than one whose sire had a zero Intake EPD. Leachman Cattle of Colorado • 3
Professional Bull Buyers Guide How to read this catalog 1. Reg#: the registration number of the animal. NotReg means the animal is not registered. Pending means that a registration number has been applied for, but was not issued at the time of catalog printing. 2. Brd: breed of the animal if two breeds or less are involved. If more than two breeds are in the animal, then the composition shows the percent British and the percent Continental, i.e. 58B 42C means 58% British and 42% Continental. 3. DOB: date of birth

Birth weight EPD/ABC expressed on an Angus scale (or breed scale for Red Angus, Hereford, and Charolais). 19. Weaning weight EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 20. Yearling EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 21. Milk EPD/ABC expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. This is the best predictor of a bull’s daughter’s ability to milk. It measures the difference in weaning weight that will be produced between one bull’s daughters and another bull’s daughters due solely to milk. 22. IMF is the ultrasound based EPD/ABC for marbling expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 23. REA is the ultrasound based EPD/ABC for ribeye area expressed on a breed scale. The Stabilizers are expressed on an Angus scale. 24. MWT is the predicted mature weight of daughters that you will get if you use the bull on a 1250 pound cow. If your cows weigh 1350, add 100 to this predicted weight. If your cows weigh only 1150, subtract 100 from this predicted weight. This EPD is the best indicator of daughter size -- far better than frame score or yearling height. 25. F:G is the pedigree estimated feed to gain EPD that predicts the feedlot efficiency of the bulls offspring. A negative number means that the bull’s progeny will feed more efficiently. Example: -0.50 means that the bulls progeny will require ½ pound less feed per pound of gain. 26. Intake: is an estimate of the amount of feed that the bull’s progeny will consume over a 112 day feeding period. It is expressed in pounds. Animals with higher intake will consume more throughout their life. Animals with lower intake will consume less. 27. YHT is an EPD predicting a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to the that of other sires. 28. SC is an EPD, expressed in centimeters, predicting the difference in transmitting ability of scrotal size compared to that of other sires. 29. $Ranch EPD: This Leachman profit index that predicts weaning profitability based on calving ease, weaning weight, maternal milk, cow cost, and FERTILITY. Based on producing 100 calves. This EPD assumes a slide on calf prices of $10 / cwt. See page 7.
30. $Feeder: This number is expressed in terms of the bull’s added value to the sale price of your feeder calves. It is expressed in dollars per head. Thus when comparing a +100 bull vs. a +50 bull, we expect the first bull to sire calves worth $50 per head more at weaning (regardless of their weight). 31. $Profit™ EPD: One, simple, proven number that gives each trait a weight according to its impact on profit. See page 7 for additional information. 32. FT: Indicates the bull was individually measured for feed intake. Bulls without this notation, were not individually measured. Unmeasured bulls have EPD’s based on their parental average. 33. Bulls with a red maple leaf are of Canadian origin and must be designated as such when sold for slaughter. Key to bull comments: • Any reference to % rank is the percentile rank within that bull’s breed. Top 1% means the animal ranks better than 99% of the population on that trait. • Reference to the number rank (i.e. #2 $Profit) is the bulls rank within his breed within the sale bulls for that trait. So, #4 F:G ST means the 4th best Feed:Gain Stabilizer bull in the sale. • All bulls are evaluated for foot soundness. Bulls below a 3 score are deemed to have less than desirable hooves. 2.5 Feet = flatter heal and/or slightly longer toe. 2.0 Feet = flatter heal and much longer toe. 1.5 Feet = evidence of toes curling in on front or hind feet. All such bulls’ feet have been trimmed and sell with our complete guarantee. • Other abbreviations used in the comments include: • Dam 5@101 NR – indicates that the bull’s dam has five calves with an average weaning ratio of 101 • WR & NR = weaning or nursing ratio. How the calf ranked within herd on their adjusted weaning weight. • YR = yearling ratio. How the calf ranked within herd on adjusted yearling weight. • AWW = adjusted 205 day weaning weight. AYW = adjusted 365 day yearling weight. • REA & IMF = either adjusted data or ratios for ultrasound ribeye area and inter-muscular fat (marbling). • ADG = average daily gain on test. WDA = weight per day of age at a year. • Stay = the Red Angus EPD for Stayability. This predicts the likelihood that a bull’s daughters stay in the herd. +14 means that 14% more of of Colorado this bull’s daughtersLeachman will be in Cattle the herd at age 6.• 5

18 Month Old Bulls – Ready to Work
Why
Angus?
Now, more than ever, Angus breeders are seeking direction. Some continue to pursue $Beef. Others are chasing maximum growth. Still others are breeding a certain type and kind. While none of these directions are bad, they are not the best. A better selection direction is to make Angus cattle more profitable from birth to slaughter. Our relentless pursuit of superior profitability led us to the early identification of several breed impacting sires.

THE STABILIZER BREED TM
The Stabilizer breed is a multi-breed composite developed by Leachman Cattle Company. The breed is based on research done by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at their Animal Research Service (ARS) at the Meat Animal Research Center (MARC), at Clay Center, Nebraska. The Stabilizer breed is a blend of British and Continental inputs. The Breed combines the fleshing ability, marbling, and moderate size of the British breeds with the muscle, milk, and growth of the Continental breeds. As a four breed composite, the Stabilizer retains 75% of the F1 hybrid vigor and thus allows producers to crossbreed with simplicity. The MARC (Meat Animal Research Center) started a project in 1973 called the Germ Plasm Utilization (GPU) project. Their research showed several advantages that come from crossbreeding. Most importantly they showed that hybrid vigor has a large impact on beef cattle productivity. The research demonstrated an 8% improvement in weaning weight when a purebred cow is mated to a bull of a different breed. The research also showed that crossbred cows are far more productive than purebred cows. The benefits came in multiple areas including more milk production, better body condition, faster re-breeding, and a longer productive lifetime.
In total, the crossbred cows weaned 23% more weight than did purebred cows. Historically, crossbreeding requires the use of complicated mating systems to keep the hybrid vigor effect. Scientists designed rotational systems using three breeds. However, such systems were too complicated. Furthermore, they resulted in wide swings in breed composition, and prevented breeders from having a uniform, well adapted herd. As an alternative, the researchers at MARC developed multi-breed composites. Their study confirmed that such composite breeds retain hybrid vigor in proportion to the number of breeds used – using more breeds generates more retention of hybrid vigor. The Stabilizer (Marc II composite), with four breeds, retains 75% of the F1 hybrid vigor. Thus, breeders can breed
composite bulls to composite females and keep most of the available hybrid vigor without the complexity and loss of uniformity associated with crossbreeding.
Since 1988, Leachman has marketed over 10,000 Stabilizer bulls. Customers from across the United States are successfully utilizing Stabilizers to improve their bottom line. The Stabilizer breed is also popular and growing in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and in South America.
The Stabilizer has quickly become the most widespread composite breed in the world’s temperate regions. 20 • Leachman Cattle of Colorado

ALL ANIMALS OFFERED ARE SUBJECT TO PRIOR SALE AND PRICE CHANGES. EXCEPT FOR THOSE STATED IN THE BELOW TERMS AND CONDITIONS, THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AS TO MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE CATTLE BEING SOLD IN THIS OFFERING. THE WARRANTIES AND GUARANTEES SET FORTH IN THESE “TERMS AND CONDITIONS” ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AND THE REMEDIES PROVIDED THEREIN SHALL BE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY OF THE BUYER, OR ANY PARTY CLAIMING THROUGH BUYER, FOR ANY BREACH OF WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE THEREIN PROVIDED, AND ALL OTHER OBLIGATIONS OR LIABILITIES.
SALE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
TERMS: Terms of sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with the Seller prior to the sale. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the Purchaser as soon as sold. It shall be the obligation of the Seller to see that animals are fed and cared for, free of charge to Purchaser, until loaded for shipment. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A transferred certificate of registry will be furnished to the Buyer for each animal unless said animal is unregistered as denoted in the catalog. HEALTH: All animals are eligible for interstate shipment; except as otherwise announced. Interstate health papers will be furnished for each animal requiring T.B., Bang’s, and other health testing in accordance with State and Federal Regulations. ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION SERVICE CERTIFICATES A.I. Service Certificates shall be furnished by the Seller, at no cost to the Buyer, for all females sold in the sale that are bred artificially to bulls not owned by the Seller. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Changes of information, of any kind, in this catalog will be announced from the auction block. Such announcements shall take precedence. BREEDING GUARANTEE 1. All animals are guaranteed breeders, with the exception of: a) calves under twelve months of age; b) animals shown by Purchaser after sale (in cases of animals shown after purchase, the breeding guarantee, if any, shall be such as agreed upon between Seller and Buyer; or c) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the Purchaser. 2. Bulls are guaranteed breeders if not allowed to run with the herd until at least 14 months of age. Any bull which either: 1) settles 1/3 or more of the healthy cows he serves; 2) is the sire of 20 or more animals; or 3) settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any 6 month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 2 of the section of these sale terms and conditions entitled “Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment”) shall be considered a breeder. Any guarantees with respect to the ability to freeze semen shall be by separate agreement between Buyer and Seller. “Safe in Calf” Females have been examined by a competent veterinarian and are so guaranteed. Pasture-bred Females have been exposed, but are not guaranteed to be in calf. Serviced females are believed to be in calf but are not so guaranteed. Open females have not been served and are so guaranteed. IDENTIFICATION: Seller offers each animal with a readable tattoo corresponding to its catalog designation and registration when applicable. OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT 1. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either within six months of the sale date or no later than six months after the animal reaches 18 months of age, with the exception of claims involving defects or parentage. 2. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the farm of the Seller, if in good condition and in compliance with the health requirements of the Seller’s state. The Seller shall be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the Seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the Seller shall, at the option of the Buyer, replace the animal with another of equal value or grant the Buyer a credit for use on any products marketed by the Seller. Such credit of the full purchase price shall, in any case, be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. Any expense incurred for transporting an animal claimed to be a non-breeder shall be the responsibility of the Purchaser, except that the Seller shall be responsible for transportation costs in excess of the distance between the Purchaser’s farm and the location where the sale took place. If the Seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the Purchaser to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation.
3. If a female sold as “safe in calf” proves not to be in calf, the Purchaser may receive service from the bull previously used, if available, or if the bull is not available, the Seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the Seller. Any adjustment provided for herein shall absolve the Seller from further liability, except in case such female proves to be a non-breeder. If a female represented as “safe in calf” at time of sale to a certain bull proves to have been bred to a different bull, the Seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the Seller (adjustments shall not be considered to be a breeding fee or an allocation of the purchase price to any unborn calf). Any expenses incurred for transportation shall be the responsibility of the Purchaser, except that the Seller shall be responsible for transportation costs in excess of the distance between the Purchaser’s farm and the location where the sale took place. 4. If a female sold as “served” proves not to be in calf, or if a female sold as “pasture-bred” proves not to be in calf, the Seller only guarantees such female to be a breeder. 5. If a female sold as “open” proves to be with calf, the Purchaser may return the animal to the farm of the Seller prior to calving for a credit of the full purchase price or for another animal of equal value, whichever is acceptable to the Purchaser. It shall be the obligation of the Seller to bear any expense incurred for transportation. GENETIC DEFECT AND PARENTAGE GUARANTEE 1. All animals are guaranteed not to produce a calf with the following defects: Dwarfism, Double-muscling, Parrot Mouth, Osteopetrosis (marble bone disease), and Syndactylism (mule foot), and Arthrogryposis Multiplex (curly calf). The parentage of all animals bred by the Seller is guaranteed to the extent that the animal is by the Sire and out of the Dam indicated on its registration paper. These guarantees are effective for a period of two years from date of sale only under the following conditions. a) The Buyer shall notify the Seller in writing immediately upon the birth of a calf suspected of being defective or immediately after determination is made that such calf is defective, or if parentage is suspected or found to be in error. b) The Seller, at his expense shall be permitted and provided, with reasonable opportunity, to obtain blood samples of an alleged defective calf and its sire and dam for the purpose of blood type/DNA analysis to establish parenthood. In the case of suspect parentage, the Buyer at his expense, shall be permitted and provided, with reasonable opportunity, to obtain blood samples of the animal in question and its sire and dam for the purpose of blood type/DNA analysis to establish parenthood. If sire or dam, as indicated on the animal’s registration paper, is proven to be in error by such analysis, the Seller shall reimburse Buyer for cost of such analysis. c) The animals will be returned by the Buyer to the Seller at the Buyer’s expense; provided the animal meets the health requirements for the Seller’s state. d) The replacement of an animal with another of equal value or the refund of the purchase price, in connection with a defect producing animal or an animal whose parentage is in error, shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. 2. In the event there is a dispute as to whether or not a calf is defective, or parentage is in error, “determination” referred to in Paragraph 1a above shall be made by a person or persons acceptable to both the Buyer and Seller. In the event that Buyer and Seller cannot agree on the selection of such person or persons, then each of them shall appoint a representative to make the determination. In the event that such representatives fail to agree, a third person selected by the representatives of the Buyer and Seller shall make the determination. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the Buyer and Seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. Neither the sale manager, nor any other person connected with the management of the sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.
