Fear for teen haven Youth | Suzanne Robson A DECISION to rezone VicTrackowned land in Reservoir has sparked fears a boxing gym helping at-risk teenagers stay out of trouble will be forced to close. Keon Park Boxing Club president Darren Burrows said he was ‘‘shattered’’ at the prospect of the Johnson St gym, which opened in 2005, shutting down. The gym charges just $2 for fitness classes, including training for women and overweight teens. Following a request by VicTrack, Darebin Council voted last month

Murray said it ‘‘supported the ongoing recreational use of the land leased to the Scouts as a gym’’. ‘‘There is no intention to sell the to rezone the 652sq m site to mixed land,’’ he said. Asked why the land was being use. The council report said the rezon- rezoned, Mr Murray said VicTrack ing, now on public exhibition, was ‘‘tidying up an area not needed would ‘‘provide opportunities for a for future transport’’. Reflecting the artist’s mixed Indigenous and European heritage, the images range from representations of totemic animal forms to the totems of European modernism. Onus was recognised in the urban Indigenous art scene for pioneering a unique approach to communicating cultural knowledge through combining Indigenous and Western visual systems.
