Special activities and memorabilia will feature when the Whittlesea Show celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. It’s on Friday, November 6, to Sunday, November 8, at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. Horsedrawn vehicles, the main means of transport for many years, will take centre stage while special classes in all areas with a touch of yesteryear will be included, along with historical photos and commemorative merchandise. The usual show jumping, wood chopping competition, food expo, carnival rides, show bags, stage entertainment and more will be there. The show is open Saturday 9am-7pm and Sunday 9am5pm. Entry $5 adults, $3 kids 6-14 years.

Some of Melbourne’s most exciting jazz outfits will be part of a swinging afternoon and evening of jazz in the park at the Hawkstowe picnic area in South Morang on Sunday, November 15, 3-7pm. Among the performances, St Monica’s College’s Senior Jazz Combo will team with St Monica’s Vocal Ensemble, while Out For The Count Swing Band and Cheek To Cheek Trio will also be on stage. At the Sustainable Homes Expo you can see a range of new products including the latest designs in solar hot water systems, lighting, heating, double glazing, insulation, water tanks and pumps. Experts will answer all of your questions about the products on display, plus specialists in sustainable gardening, water recycling and energy conservation will provide guidance. The expo is on November 22, from 10am-5pm at the council offices in South Morang. Admission is free.
