OUTH BEND, Ind. — More than merely a baseball venue, Four Winds Field will serve as an entertainment hotspot and host another summer concert, as the Under the Sun Tour — featuring Sugar Ray, Better Than Ezra, Uncle Kracker and Eve 6 — will make its way to South Bend on Friday, July 31, the South Bend Cubs announced Monday. The nationally traveling tour will descend on the diamond at Four Winds Field, making the home of the South Bend Cubs one of more than 30 stops for the renowned artists throughout the summer. The South Bend Cubs are pleased to partner with Corona, WSBTTV Channel 22 and Sunny 101.1 for the Friday-night concert. “We’re thrilled to bring another great event for our community to Four Winds Field,” South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart said. “We’ve had country concerts here before, and now we’re excited to appeal to another fan base by bringing in an alternative rock show. I know that I’m excited to watch some of the artists I grew up listening to perform live.” Sugar Ray gained notoriety in the late 1990s with

“Fly” and churned out other hits such as “Every Morning,” “Someday” and “When It’s Over.” Better than Ezra released the nationally distributed album “Deluxe” in 1993, and their 1995 hit “Good” reached No. 1. “Deluxe” is widely viewed as a classic of the alternative era. Uncle Kracker has unleashed a slew of top-10 hits, including the No. 1 smash, “Follow Me” in 2001. In 2003, “Drift Away” made history by topping Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart for 28 weeks. Eve 6 attained platinum success with hits like the chart-topper “Inside Out.” “We’ve always wanted Four Winds Field to be more than just a great baseball venue,” Hart said. “Based on the success of our previous concerts, we couldn’t be more excited to bring more entertainment to downtown South Bend.”

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. ET, and the music will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale May 18 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased by visiting the South Bend Cubs Box Office at Four Winds Field, logging on to SouthBendCubs. com or calling (574) 235-9988. SPOTLIGHT

Tim Stop’s full-band tour includes Livery in the lineup Tim Stop, a Saint Mary’s College graduate frontlining for bands like Chicago and REO Speedwagon, will return to Michiana May 22 as he plays a show at the Livery in Benton Harbor.

By ADAM REBOLLOSO

B

E N T O N HARBOR, Mich. — If a last name sheds light on where a person comes from, it doesn’t seem to speak on what’s ahead in the case of musician Tim Stop. With a lineup of cities across the Midwest scheduled for his first full-band tour, Iowa-native Stop (born Tim Stopolus) will play the Livery in Benton Harbor at 8 p.m. May 22, as part of the tour’s final stretch. Stop said he is looking forward to bringing something new to a familiar venue. “I’ve played [the Livery] a few times before,” Stop said. “It’s such a neat, intimate setting…you can see the love for indy music and art there.” Describing his music as weaving pop-rock and acoustic soul, Stop said his writing and performing success have largely been tied to a simple, bare-bones approach. In his spring tour, Stop said fans can expect bigger versions of tracks from past albums such as Shadowbox, released in 2014, along with familiar cover songs like “The Way You Make Me Feel” — his most recent track to earn rotation on Sirius XM’s The Coffee House station. Those in attendance will also have the chance to leave with fun free giveaways.

While this is Stop’s first experience headlining a tour with a full band of his own, he’s no stranger to a musician’s figurative and literal life on the road. Stop has had the opportunity of playing a number of festivals alongside legendary rock bands Chicago and REO Speedwagon before being invited to join them as opening act in their summer U.S. tour. He continued on with Chicago in touring the Canadian landscape this past winter. “Winter in Canada was brutal,” Stop said. “I’ve played a lot of shows, but those tours [with Chicago and REO] were different. Four to eight weeks with barely a night off…it’s definitely a grind.” With his band’s first

stop in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 12 and the last of their 11-show lineup May 23 in Chicago, travel would seem more comfortable, if not without the continued grind. The tour’s timing coincides with the planning of his wedding in June, which he says illustrates the tremendous support he has received from his fiancée through the demands of a touring musician. “It’s tough to find, someone who gives that kind of support,” Stop said of his bride-to-be. “She has been absolutely great.” A Saint Mary’s College graduate, he says she helped inspire the University of Notre Dame’s support in his acoustic cover of popular-ballad, “Here Come

The World’s Best Smoker and Grill

GAS OR CHARCOAL

the Irish,” which can be found with the rest of Stop’s music in the usual avenues of iTunes Store, Spotify and Pandora.

With two momentous fronts of focus, Stop feels good about the preparation that he, his band and fiancée have

shown. In the months to come, Tim Stop seems to be pulling out all the stops to come together in bigger ways.

A workout with no time to work out

I

make the majority of my living as a real estate broker in Chicago. The spring market has been really crazy this year, leaving me, an already busy entrepreneur, running around like crazy. I’ve found it really hard to fit in my favorite dance and yoga classes and have just been doing what I can here and there to stay toned, flexible, and calm. This generally involves a super urban and compact version of an efficient total body workout I’ve been doing for years. Back when I lived in the hills of Pittsburgh and the dunes of southwestern Michigan, I would spend 20 minutes power walking up and down hills to tone my legs, butt, arms, and core while getting my heart rate going. Then I would finish up with some core and arm work followed by stretching. Thirty minutes, and boom, you’re good. When I moved to Chicago, I started climbing the back stairs of my building, two steps at a time, at a brisk pace. I prefer the slow, steady rise of a hill or dune to the stairs, but hey, we just do the best we can with what we have sometimes. I currently live in a four story walk up building, so doing the back stairs up and down six times is my current cardio-punch for the total body. Following the stair climbing I either walk around the neighborhood or go right to doing some pilates, yoga, and barre moves. It really just depends on how much time I have. I’ve really found over the years that thanks to my plant based diet, just getting in 30 or even sometimes 20 minutes of super efficient cardiototal body toning exercise four times a week can get me by in a pinch. Of course I prefer feeling like I have the time to go to an hour and a half yoga class four times a week, but the reality of life is

COLUMNIST

Kat Barry Kat's Hot Talk that we are all too busy and if we’re going to make health and fitness a priority, then we have to make it efficient sometimes. The following workout I’ve devised should only take you about 25 minutes. If it’s easier for you to walk uphill outside or on a treadmill, then I suggest doing that instead. The main thing is to do it at a good pace and keep your ribs pulling in towards the midline. This will help tone your transverse abdominals which is what helps define the center line down your stomach. Add more reps or cut down to eight or 10 if you’re just getting started. I usually do 15 or 20 reps depending on time, but that is something to work up to. Cardio Warm-Up Up and down four flights of stairs, two steps at a time x six, or walk up and down hills at a fast pace for 15 minutes. Core & Mat Work Down dog crunchies 2 x 3 each side: Start in a downward facing dog position. Inhale and lift your right leg high, toes pointing down and pressing through your heel. Next inhale, bend your knee and shift your shoulders over your wrists while bringing

your knee in towards your chin for a down dog crunchie. Exhale send the leg back up in the air. Inhale, bring it to the outside of the right elbow, exhale back, inhale right knee to left elbow. Exhale down dog. Repeat on the other side. Do this two times, holding the last one for five counts each side. Down dog push-ups and Dolphin Push-ups 2 x 12 each: Start in a downward facing dog position and slowly bend the elbows on an inhale, exhale straighten. Repeat 12 times then slowly lower the elbows all the way to the matt on the last one. Clasp your palms together and make sure the elbows are inline with the shoulders. Inhale and then on an exhale, shift your shoulders forward bringing your chin to hover over your palms. Inhale press back. Repeat 12 times then lower your knees to the floor and rest in child’s pose for a breath or two. Repeat. Core Work on the Mat Tick-Tock Abs x 15 each side: Lay flat on your back and pull your knees into the chest and give yourself a hug. Exhale and extend the legs

away from you so that the knees are bent in line with the hips and the heels are flexed. Knees and ankles should both be hip distance apart. Take your arms out to a T and press your whole spine into the floor. Inhale and then exhale, slowly lower your bent legs to the right. Inhale center, exhale left. Do 15 on each side and then hug the legs in and repeat. Toe-taps x 15 each side Start in the same position as the tick-tock with your back flat, spine pressing down and your knees bent, feet lifted off the ground. Arms are by your side. Inhale and the exhale tap your right toe on the mat. Inhale up. Exhale left. Repeat 15 times each side then hug your legs in and repeat. Leg lifts: Laying flat on your back,

place your hands under your tailbone. Lift your legs off the ground as you inhale. Exhale lower to a hover, inhale up to 45 degrees, exhale lower to a hover. Repeat 20 times then hugs the legs in to release. Chair Squats x 40: Next I do 40 x chair squats with my feet hip distance apart and my arms extended straight up in the air. Simply sit back like you’re in char. Hold on the 20th one for 5 breaths. Then exhale and fold forward for 5 breathes. I try and do at least 40 chair squats every day. Leg Kicks and Ronde de Jambes: Leg kicks and ronde de jambes are great for fighting the saddlebag area. From a standing position with the heels together and the toes turned out, I do 2 x sets of 20 kicks to the front, back and side Always hold

the last one for five breaths, switch sides then repeat. Ronde de Jambes are much more difficult and require a significant amount of balance and strength. Start in the same position as the kicks, with your palms in your shoulders and elbows lifted. Inhale and kick your right leg up. As you exhale, slowly round the leg to the back, lifting from the inseam of your pants. Exhale, slowly round back to front and slowly lower the leg. It is all done with control. Work your way to doing 12 each side and reverse.

Stretch: I always finish with some seated forward folds, both legs together and wide and then some basic twists.
