Her dishes are created utilizing fresh, locally harvested seasonal ingredients when possible. She wants to share her passion for homemade cuisine, from slow-simmered sauces to charcuterie. Amster offers catering and created a line of handmade goods, from apple ginger chutney to chocolate chip cookies, available at Shelton’s.

Christine Hoffman opened Niles Styles, 244 E. Main St., Niles, in 2009. Her ladies boutique is a “one-of-a-find” upscale shopping experience. She started in consignment at 105 E. Main St. in a location a third of the present size. Hoffman grew her business to where it’s all new merchandise and prides herself on using her fashion sense to offer clothing not found in the surrounding area. She started Niles Styles to become her own boss after 10 years working for the Cass County court system, so acquired her “dream job.” Niles Styles also won in 2012.

Tabor Hill Restaurant and Winery, 185 Mt. Tabor Road, Buchanan, was established in 1968. The original vineyard was planted with 27 different grape varieties placed deep in the side of a hill seven miles from Lake Michigan. The winery was constructed from weathered lumber from an 1863 barn. First in the Midwest to plant European vinifera grape varieties, extensive experimentation identified which were hardy enough to withstand Michigan’s roller-coaster climate. Today, with 55 acres of estate-grown grapes and 400 acres of local produce from neighbor growers, the original 2,000-gallon output of wine grew to more than 150,000 gallons annually.

Tyler’s Automotive, which also won in 2012, was founded as a Chevrolet dealership in December 1969 by Tim Tyler and partner Terry Linville, whose business philosophy was to employ the best people and emphasize service. That philosophy remains, but products represented have changed many times with the addition of Cadillac, Jeep, Pontiac, AMC, Buick, Renault, GMC, Hummer, Geo, Eagle, Oldsmobile, Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Honda, Ram and GEM. Tyler’s four locations, including three on S. 11th Street in Niles, carry Chevy-Cadillac, Kia, Honda and Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram.

Zolman Tire, 1901 S. 11th St., Niles, offers a full range of tire selections for cars, trucks, minivans and sport utility vehicles (SUVs). Niles became its fifth of six family-owned Michiana stores in 1999. It constructed a new ecofriendly facility in Niles in September 2011. It is a complete auto service center in addition to tires.

Customers anticipate monthly pizza creations. April’s was barbecued pulled pork. Pies have also featured gyros, Philly cheese steaks, baked potatoes, Mexican salsa and even fresh asparagus. She volunteers time and resources to Hunter Ice Festival, Relay for Life, Salvation Army and Niles Apple Festival.
