Group Zumba Parties LIVESTRONG at the YMCA A 12-week exercise program for cancer survivors to help achieve improved wellness at no cost to the survivor or their family. It is a fitness, wellness and support program for cancer survivors at any stage of treatment. Participants of the program meet twice a week with certified instructors and personal trainers who have undergone specialized training in the elements of cancer, rehabilitative exercise and supportive cancer care. “LIVESTRONG at the YMCA for cancer survivors has made my life better. It has made me physically strong and mentally brighter. Thank you Denise, Diane, Catherine, Monica, Susan, Lisa and all the YMCA staff. Your kindness and caring attitudes have helped me and my co-members deal with devastating after effects of cancer. Each day is a gift for us and you all have made each day brighter for us. Birthday Parties

Not sure where to have your child’s next birthday? The Y is available for parties. Birthday events can be reserved on Saturday or Sunday from 2-4 pm and 4-6 pm. Parties are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Call or come in to schedule your party. A deposit will be required.

Where Hope Grows, Miracles Blossom The Lakeland Health Foundation, Niles and the Niles-Buchanan YMCA have become partners, to deliver care to thousands of patients and families impacted by cancer. Hope Grows raises funds to support cancer screenings and LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA. Preventive screening detects cancer at an early stage, and LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA is a free 12-week exercise program to help survivors after treatment. Donations can be made at lakelandhealthfoundations.org, click on “Ways to Give.” Membership Opportunities are available for $25 and $50. Contact the Niles-Buchanan YMCA for details. This energetic class will focus on discipline, self-confidence, self-control, respect, with an emphasis on being a GREAT student in school. HOMESCHOOL SWIM & FITNESS

Homeschool children will learn the fundamentals of fitness and swimming. Students will participate in numerous activities that focus on physical fitness, team building, conditioning and learning to swim or working on stroke development and technique. We encourage each child to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which includes swimming and physical fitness. The Niles-Buchanan YMCA has teamed up with Robert Egan Stables to offer horseback riding classes for children and adults. Stables consist of 24 acres of indoor and outdoor arenas and outside courses and trails. Certified instructors (NARHA) stressing suitability of horse to rider, emphasizing safety in all activites. All classes will meet for seven weeks and will run according to the YMCA’s schedules. Limit 4 students per class.

The YMCA is the #1 afterschool provider in the country. Niles–Buchanan YMCA is offering safe, top-quality, enriching afterschool programs for your student! As a committed organization that is dedicated to addressing the needs of the community, we are providing afterschool Y-CLUB and EXTENDED DAY opportunities to help provide your student with great opportunities. Staff will greet your student warmly with a smile at the end of the school day. Students will be provided with a nutritious snack and numerous activities to help them grow into healthy, productive and responsible people.

WHERE? WHEN? HOW?

Ballard & Howard Elementary Schools Programs will be held at your student’s school as an extension of the school day! Who: Kindergarten-5th Grade Students Time: After school - 6:00 P.M. When: September 7, 2016 - June 9, 2017, Monday - Friday Cost: $25/week; no matter how many days your child attends. Payment to be made to the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. Please do not send money to school with your child. TRANSPORTATION IS NOT PROVIDED FOR Y AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS Parents must arrange transportation home for program participation.

What will my student do each afternoon? Under adult supervision, students participate in exciting ageappropriate activities and will experience a variety of programs that promote physical activity, healthy nutrition habits and social responsibility. The primary focus is to promote a safe, exciting, active and fun environment for your student! Will my student be able to work on his/her homework? Absolutely! The purpose of Y-CLUB is to promote physical activity and social responsibility, as well as provide opportunity for homework and individual reading.

Half Days Extended Day

What if it snows?

School release time to 6:00 P.M. NO transportation will be provided for students in afterschool programs, which includes Y-CLUB or extended day. The YMCA is also offering extended afterschool care to all Kindergarten through 5th grade students on many of the Niles Community Schools half days. You do not need to be registered for Y-CLUB to participate in the half day afterschool extended day. The cost for extended day care is $12 if you are not registered in Y-CLUB for that particular week. If you are registered in Y-CLUB the extended day added fee is $6. All students will be provided with a nutritious lunch and activities during this time. Pre-registration is required for extended day. You may register at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA up to two weeks prior to the half day. Sorry, late registrations will not be accepted on the afterschool extended day half days. The afterschool program will follow school schedule; if there is no school, the afterschool programs will not be open. Does my student need to attend every day? Attendance is not required every day. However, your student will not want to miss out on the fun! Payment of $25/week for Y-CLUB will be based, and paid, on a weekly basis, regardless of the number of days your student attends during the week. Payments must be made for the upcoming week on Friday before the week of attendance. If you have a payment method on file at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA you can set up for automatic payment or register on-line for the upcoming week at www.nb-ymca.org or at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.

Pick-Up Procedures Program dismissal is 6:00 P.M.

The afterschool program concludes at 6:00 P.M. each day. Students should be picked up by 6:00 P.M. Parents can arrange to pick up their child earlier than 6:00 P.M. if necessary. Students MUST be signed out of the program by a YMCA staff member who will verify the adult is on the “permission to sign out” list for each student.

mariners SWIM TEAM youth development Try new things!

YMCA’s involvement in competitive swimming incorporates the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into the swimmers daily training. Swimming is our vehicle for demonstrating those values of fitness, health, self respect and respect for others. We are dedicated to a program full of happy, healthy and accomplished swimmers. We provide a healthy and age-appropriate program for swimmers from novice to national level. Swimmers have the opportunity to train, compete and socialize under the guidance of qualified, caring and professional coaching staff and parents. A two week trial period is available for $20. Age ranges from 4-18. After the trial period, if your swimmer decides to join the team, a membership is required to join. Your swimmer will be evaluated and placed on one of our training teams. S.K.I.P (Shrimp, Kippers, Inias, Perch) is a progressive class. It is a 30 minute class with the primary objective to get both parent and child comfortable in the water. The instructor will have parents learn by example on how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

Held in Main Pool. This class is designed for parents with babies or toddlers who are not ready to experience the water without the comfort of a parent. The class will prepare children for swimming through aquatic readiness experiences. It will help parents and children to relate in a healthy, enjoyable way, promote safe water practices, and encourage positive and enthusiastic water experiences.

Preschool Program

Classes for children 3-5 years of age with a focus on the enjoyment of water activities, preswim learning, and the development of confidence and water safety skills. CLASS SIZES ARE LIMITED.

Pike with Parents (3 - 5 years)

30 minute class designed to develop safe pool behavior, adjustment to the water, and to develop independent movement in the water. Parents will aid in the instructional process.

Starfish (3-5 years)

30 minute advanced class designed to refine the technique of all four competitive strokes. We will also introduce diving skills, endurance swimming, and survival techniques.

YOUTH Program

Classes for children 6-14 years that focus on learning - not passing or failing. Each level has five components to promote health and fitness: personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth and rescue. Swimmers must master the skills of each level before progressing to the next level.

Polliwog (6 - 14 years)

45 minute class designed for school-age child that focuses on getting children acquainted with the water, basic front and back paddle, and the ability to float.

Guppy (6 - 14 years)

45 minute class designed to teach basic front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke without the aid of flotation.

Minnow (6 - 14 years)

45 minute intermediate level 1 that focuses on refinement of skill learned in Guppy and teaches more advanced diving skills.

Fish/Flying Fish/Shark (6-14 years)

For 35 years the Niles-Buchanan YMCA has hosted a Thanksgiving Day Run in the community. It has become a tradition for many people who live or visit the NilesBuchanan area at Thanksgiving. Last year, over 2,000 people from multiple states participated in the 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk, or Kids 1 Mile Fun Run. Proceeds from the Thanksgiving Day Run support our Annual Campaign which supports youth programming as well as financial support to families through membership scholarships. The Niles-Buchanan YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run is the largest, most popular run in the Michiana area. Runners have the choice to run a 10K, 5K, or 1 Mile Fun Run. Teen Fitness Orientation By Appointment

Cardio Room (Required for under 16 years) Teens will be introduced to cardio and strength equipment for safe and effective workouts. They will set up with a safe starting weight on strength machines and a target heart rate for aerobic conditioning. Free-Weight Room (Required for under 16 years) Teens must complete an orientation in the free-weight area before they are allowed to use the equipment.

Adult Fitness Orientation By Appointment

A free one-hour orientation for the fitness center is available to all members! Members will learn how to use equipment, set up a starting resistance weight on the strength machines, learn to target heart rate for aerobic exercise, and set up a beginning exercise plan.

Fitness Assessments

$15 per appointment - can be scheduled every 6-8 weeks. This service is provided free with Personal Training. This will provide body measurements and body fat percentage.

Track

The track is 1/10 mile. You must be 13 years or older to be on the track without an adult. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult within arms length at ALL times.

H - BOOT CAMP: This class utilizes your own body weight for a very intense workout! L - CHAIR AEROBICS: Whether seated, supported by a chair or standing free, participants engage in strength training, flexibility, Cardiovascular and balance exercises while benefiting from a cardio workout. L – ENHANCE FITNESS: Enhance Fitness is an evidence-based M- CARDIO DRUMMING: Feel the rhythm and beats of the music. Cardio drumming is fun, stress relieving, and a great, low-im- group exercise program for older adults that uses simple, easy to pact, medium intensity workout. Experience traditional exercises learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life. Yoga & Stretching Classes L - CHAIR TAI CHI: (CAN ALSO STAND IF DESIRED) Chair Tai Chi is a gentle exercise program to help people receive the benefits of traditional Tai Chi Chuan in the comfort and safety of their chair. Benefits include balance, flexibility, range of motion, strength, energy, pain relief, tranquility, stress reduction, and peace of mind. M - CORE FUSION: A Pilates-based class that focus on breathing techniques, core movements, and using your own weight to strengthen and tone. L – CHAIR YOGA: Yoga-Stretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

M - YOGA: This self-discovery class will teach you meditation methods and relaxation. Breathing and slow moving holds and poses will calm your inner being and nourish the soul. Adult Volleyball Where: Niles-Buchanan YMCA Who: Adults (18 and older) Registration: August 15-September 19 Fee: $225 per team Mid Level Recreation - For teams who are more experienced than recreation but not quite ready for competitive leagues. For example if you played in our competitive league and were a lower ranked team then you should be in this league. When: September 27 - November 15 (6 week season, two week tournament, single elimination) Tuesday pm matches - co-ed 6 on 6 Competitive - This league is only for high level experienced teams. For example if you have played in our competitive league and were a higher ranked team, then this is the league for you. When: September 29 - November 17 (6 week season, two week tournament, single elimination) Thursday pm matches - co-ed 6 on 6 All team member fees and completed team roster must be turned into the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. Minimum of 4 teams to run each league. League will run for 6 matches plus a tournament to finish the season. Officials will be provided for each match. Total matches will determine league standings. In case of a tie, head-to-head matches won then total points will decide team placing.

4 & 5 year olds

Must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017 When: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Time: 1:00 - 3:30pm Fees: $130 Members, $160 Non-Members Kindergarten readiness skills are of more importance with this class. Payment Schedule

Payments must be set up on automatic deduction (Easy Pay) or paid in full. Easy Pay is a monthly payment which automatically drafts from your checking, savings, credit or debit card on the 20th of each month. All payments are scheduled to be paid a month in advance beginning August 20.

A $25 registration fee per child is required in order to reserve a place in the preschool session of your choice. (non-refundable)
