Any child, adult or family may belong to the YMCA, regardless of income or family situation. If you know of an individual or family who would like to belong, but cannot afford to, please notify the Y staff. Financial assistance is available for all programs.

MEMBERSHIP...Working together to move forward METHODS OF PAYMENT

Easy Pay is a monthly payment plan which automatically drafts your checking, savings, debit or credit card account for your membership dues. Easy Pay memberships will automatically be renewed until cancelled in writing. Memberships can also be paid annually using cash, credit/debit card or check.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Membership: Memberships must be cancelled in writing 30 days prior to the 1st of the month in which the cancellation is to take effect. Programs: If the minimum number of participants are not enrolled, the Y has the right to combine it with another class or cancel the class.

REFUND POLICY

If the Y cancels or reschedules a program, a refund or credit will be granted. If a medically verified illness or injury prohibits attendance and is reported to the Y, a credit will be issued for future programs. NO MONEY will be refunded. Credits must be approved by the Program Director. An administrative fee is added into the price of each class and will not be included in issuing credits.

PROGRAM REGISTRATION

Program cards will be handed out to current participants during the second to last week of the session. Registration for members and current participants will then be on the last week of class. See Page 3 for registration dates. Pre-registration is required for ALL, space is NOT guaranteed to current participants. Fees are due at time of registration, spaces cannot be held without payment. Registration can be taken by phone using credit/debit cards. Online registration is available to Members only.

MEMBERSHIP COUNTS

For the safety of all members and guests, everyone is required to check in at the front desk. All members are issued member ID cards. We ask that you show your card every time you come. Replacement cards: $2.

BABYSITTING

We offer free babysitting service while adult members use the facility. This service is also available to non-members and guests at the rate of $2/hour for the first child and $1/hour for each additional child. See the babysitting staff for more details and a handbook.

AGE REGULATIONS

Children must be at least 13 years of age to utilize the Fitness Center. Children 1316 years must go through a teen orientation prior to using any equipment without adult supervision. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult over 18 when using the Indoor Track.

AWAY PROGRAM

The “Always Welcome at YMCA’s” AWAY logo on your membership ID entitles you to visit participating YMCAs in the cities where you are traveling. You may find any YMCA in the US by calling (866) USA-YMCA or by going online and visiting www.ymca.net.

We need your help and talent. The Y is a volunteer based organization. We count on the generosity of the community to serve where needed. Watch for this symbol throughout the guide for opportunities to serve.

LOST & FOUND

Any recovered items will be placed in our lost and found and kept on hand for no more than two weeks. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charitable organization. See the Member Service Center to claim your lost items.

SECURITY

The Niles-Buchanan Y is open to all members, therefore each person must be responsible for his or her own belongings. The Y is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. Leave valuables at home. If you do bring valuables we advise that you use a lock that is large enough so that the locker cannot be opened, or keep them locked in your car out of sight.

Classes held once a week for 5 weeks PARENT/TODDLER

This class is designed to give parents the opportunity to be involved in their child’s motor development. They will be using all the equipment as the parent learns to work with their child on different skills. The instructor will be involved with spotting and teaching each skill. At times, the instructor will ask to go one on one with the child in a specific skill. Who: 18 mos. - 3 year olds When: Monday Time: 5:15-5:45pm

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM Gym Dandy

This class is designed for the child ready to learn basic moves that will teach them to do the complete gymnastic skill. They will work all the equipment which will help in balance, flexibility, and basic motor skills, such as donkey kick, which will eventually become a handstand. As the children learn more skills and are ready, they will be given more difficult moves to work on. Who: 3 - 4 year olds When: Tuesday 4:45-5:15pm, Thursday 5:15-5:45pm

Super Tots

This class is designed for the not old enough for the Progressive Program, but are ready to learn advanced skills children. We will continue to utilitize the equipment as well as work on: form, body, position, strength, flexibility and balance. Each child will work at the level they are ready for. Requirements for class: ALL children will be tested prior to moving into this class. Children must be 3-5 years of age. Who: 3 - 5 year olds When: Tuesday 5:15-6:00pm, Thursday 5:45-6:30pm

Kinder Gym

This class is designed to prepare a child for the progressive program. They will work on learning skills for cartwheels, many different rolls, handstands and much more. They will work on all the equipment and at times will try without a spot. We encourage all of the children that are ready to do skills with little spotting. This will prepare them in the future for other skills and strengthens their confidence. Who: 4 - 5 year oldsWhen: Tuesday 5:15-6:00pm, Thursday 5:45-6:30pm

Moving through the program as you achieve program specific goals

Rollers

This program begins with forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands and back kickovers off the mats. They will also work the beam, vault and bars. After children can do 75% of all skills, they will move to the next class upon instructors discretion. Who: 6 years and up When: Tuesday Time: 6:00-7:00pm

Swingers

In this class children will be working on: round offs, handstands to bridge, back roll step-outs, and back kickovers without spot. They will begin learning the basics for back handsprings. All classes do beam, vault, and bars. When a child is able to do at least 75% of the skills they will be allowed to move to the next class upon the instructors discretion. Who: 6 years and up When: Tuesday Time: 7:00-8:00pm

Kippers

This advanced class is designed for children ready to begin tumbling skills, walkovers, front and back along with dance. There will be specific skills required on all equipment. At this level, the skills will be more difficult and will require tight bodies and paying close attention to the instructor. Who: 6 years and up When: Thursday Time: 6:30-7:30pm

Flyers

This class is designed for the serious gymnast that might enjoy competition level skills. They will be working on continuous tumbling runs, putting together routines using dance and gymnastics. They will still be working on bars, beam and vault, along with floor. Who: 6 years and up When: Thursday Time: 6:30-7:30pm

Tumbling

This class is designed for those children who are interested in learning basic skills for tumbling only. They must first learn to do a handstand, bridge and kickover off of mats before learning to do back handsprings. Once they are able to do roundoffs and back handsprings they can move on to more difficult skills. Who: 10 years and up When: Monday Time: (Beginners) 6:00-7:00pm, (Advanced) 7:00-8:00pm

Taekwondo

This energetic class focuses on discipline, self-confidence, self-control, and respect, with an emaphasis on being a good student in school. Who: 5-12 years When: White Belt (level 1) Saturday 9:00 - 9:45 am Orange Belt (level 2) Saturday 10:00 - 10:45 am Yellow Belt (level 3) Saturday 11:00 - 11:45 am

Mariners Swim Team

Involvement in the competitive swim program develops the YMCA Character values. The emphasis of the YMCA swim team is fitness, health, nutrition and goal setting. Each emphasis teaches self respect, discipline and patience. We are dedicated to a program full of happy, healthy and accomplished swimmers. We provide a healthy, age appropriate program for beginning swimmers to national level competitors. Swimmers have the chance to train, compete and socialize under the guidance of a qualified, caring, professional coaching staff. A two-week trial period is available for $20.00. Ages 4-18 are welcome.

Join us on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a time of drills and instruction with our head swim coach Jacque Clark, to help you become a better more efficient swimmer. Each session will feature one hour of coaching with 30 minutes of open lap swim. Minimum of 6 participants. 100 Mile Swim Club

Calling all lap swimmers, join our 100 mile swim club for 2014. Stay healthy all year and work toward a goal of swimming 100 miles or more! Register with Member Services and then have name placed on log chart located in Aquatics Department. Record miles throughout the year and turn in miles to be posted on the log chart. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT YOUTH SWIM LESSONS - Ages 6 through 14 years

The Youth Program is designed for children 6-14 years old with an emphasis on developing confidence in and around water. An age appropriate introduction to personal safety, rescue skills, and swimming, children will progress through the seven levels of the program. Progressive programs enable children to attain knowledge and ability. All lessons are forty-five minute sessions.

Rooms are available for business meetings, group lock-ins, and other special events. Rates are based on event duration, group size, and facility usage.

Open to all families and adults. Anyone under the age of 18 must have an adult accompany them in the water. (Max 4:1 child/adult ratio)

Adult Pick-Up Basketball

Open to all families, adults, teens and children. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult in the water. All children 7 or older unaccompanied by an adult must stand 42” tall and must be able to swim alone without a flotation device.

MEMBERS ONLY This is a time set aside for adult members only; 18 or older.

Pickleball Pickleball is a fun game combining table tennis, and tennis and is played in the gymnasium with a low floor net. Using a perforated plastic ball and wood paddles, you will find this game is easy for beginners to learn and fun for all! See our Gym Schedule for times and age regulations.

Teen-Fitness Orientation

Cardio Room (Required for13-16 years) - Teens will be introduced to cardio and strength equipment for safe and effective workouts. They will set up with a safe starting weight on strength machines and a target heart rate for aerobic conditioning.

Get Healthy Get Fit is a 12-week program that provides weekly sessions of nutrition with the dietitian and fitness guidance with the personal trainer. Participants strive to achieve a higher level of wellness and experience different types of exercise. The program is modified to accommodate each participant’s exercise and nutrition needs. (A minimum of 5 participants required with a maximum of 10 participants)

Free-Weight Room (Required for 13-16 years) - Teens must complete a weight room orientation with a YMCA trainer and may only use free weights after orientation AND under supervision of a YMCA trainer or a parent.

Adult Fitness Orientation

A free orientation for the fitness center is available to all new members that will provide a start-up exercise plan with weight & cardio machines.

Fitness Assessments

$15.00 per appointment - can be scheduled every 6-8 weeks. This service is provided free with Personal Training.

Track

The track is 1/10 mile. You must be 13 years or older to be on the track without an adult. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult within arms length at ALL times.

Incentive Programs

Incentive programs will be offered throughout the year as a fun way to achieve your personal fitness goals. Prizes will be awarded to those meeting their goals! Keep an eye out for upcoming events.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

A 12-week exercise program for cancer survivors to help achieve improved wellness at no cost to the survivor or their family. It is a fitness, wellness and support program for cancer survivors at any stage of treatment. Participants of the program meet twice a week with certified instructors and personal trainers who have undergone specialized training in the elements of cancer, rehabilitative exercise and supportive cancer care. HOPE GROWS

Hope Grows is a collaboration between the Niles Buchanan YMCA and Lakeland Foundation, Niles, to support the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA programming for cancer survivors and offer free screenings to those who cannot afford them to individuals in Southwest Berrien County. The initiative is an opportunity for community to support the fight against cancer with a continuum of care from screenings and early diagnosis to recovering

from cancer treatments. Hope Grows membership is community, supporting local individuals, in the battle against cancer.
