WALT HAS SURGERY ON HIS HIP ON THURSDAY THE 7TH OF OCTOBER AND LOW AND BEHOLD, HE DOESN’T MISS A BEAT AS HE SHOWS UP AND PLAYS HIS MATCH IN BOTH LEAGUES / ROOSEVELTS AND THE NEXT DAY AT D & B Table 1: #4 Dave Javorski vs #9 John Killett John has seemed to get a little of his game back after Walt helped him the previous week and it showed in the score. Dave continues to play a steady game as well. Dave made several good shots in the 8 Ball Set as his hot stick continued to keep the 8 ball hot and falling into the pockets as he had John on the run in the 8 ball set. He raced through the set and before John knew what happened, the set was over as Dave won 4 straight games. John did not let that get to him as he opened up the 9 Ball Set winning the first three games of the set to get on the hill quickly. Dave showed up for one game winning game 4 before John nailed a win in game 5 to finish off the set, winning 4 games to 1. The stage was set for a battle in the 10 Ball Set as both players seemed to get there strokes back on track. John nailed a win in game (1) and Dave followed with a win in game (2). John
again got hot and posted wins in games 3 & 4 to get on the hill. Dave did his best and nailed a win in game 5 and then nailed a 10 ball on the break in game 6 to tie John on the hill. The players were down to the final ball in game 7 and it looked like John had given away the game when Dave jawed the 10 ball in the corner and it did not drop. John wins the game and the set, 4 games to 3. John edges Dave in the match, 10 points to 9 points for Dave. Nice shooting and match by both. Table 2: #2 Walt Wnuk vs #11 Gary Loverde Walt still fresh off a hip replacement 5 days earlier decided to play and in all honesty, played better than he expected to with some discomfort from the surgery. Gary opened up the 8 Ball Set winning the first game. Then Walt came back winning the next two games. It was all Gary from that point on. He won game 4, and 5 and Walt still had a chance until Gary nailed a break and run out in the 6th game of the set to close it out. The 9 Ball Set found Gary again open up winning
game 1. Walt came right back like he did in the 8 ball set, winning back to back games. Gary followed Walt’s lead and like Walt, nailed back to back wins to get on the hill. Walt shortened game 6 nailing a 1-9 combo to get on the hill. Walt finished off the set winning game 7 for a 4 to 3 set win. Gary jumped out quickly in the 10 Ball Set with wins in the opening two games. Walt found a win in game 3 and was unable to contain Gary. Gary finished off the set with back to back wins in games 4 & 5. Gary wins the match, 13 to 8 for Walt. A valiant effort to Walt and nice shooting by Gary.
Table 3: #3 Jim Pellerito vs #10 John Surhigh John continues to play good and has moved up the leader board into 2nd place after last weeks match. He opened up the 8 Ball Set with a clean sweep in the set posting 4 straight wins to take the set 4 - 0. John made it 5 straight wins as he opened up with a win in the 9 Ball Set. Jim came storming back as he won game 2, nailed a 9 ball on the break in game 3 and did not stop making 9 balls until he had finished the set, winning 4 games to 1. This set up the final 10 Ball Set with John leading by one point. John quickly took the lead nailing back to back wins in the set. Then it was Jim’s turn as he notched wins in the next three games to get on the hill. John fought back nailing a win in game 6 and then held off Jim in game 7 to win the set and the match. John posted 11 points to 8 points for Jim in a close match. Nice shooting by both players.
Table 4: #1 Todd Cook vs #12 Mike Bates After running into a buzz saw last week in Matt Dessert, Todd came up against steady shooting Mike Bates. Mike came out early showing why he is contending for first place as he came out firing 8 balls into the pockets and finished the 8 Ball Set keeping Todd from any points in the set. Mike opened up the 9 Ball Set posting a win to make it 5 in a row. Todd stopped that nailing a 2-9 combo to get on the score sheet. Mike continued to shoot well and nailed a win in game 3. Todd again found a combo using the 3 nine to shorten up game 4. Mike then took charge and nailed back to back wins to finish off the set winning 4 - 2. Mike started the 10 Ball Set winning game 1. Todd then seemed to get his eye back and posted wins in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th games to climb on the hill. Mike wasn’t laying down just yet and came right back winning game 5 and 6 to tie Mike on the hill. Todd found an opening and with some nice shooting took the set from Mike, 4 games to 3. Mike
wins the match, 13 to 7. Good effort to Todd and nice shooting by Mike. Table 6: #5 Peter Ramonat vs #8 Jim Vohs Jim is still trying to get his game back and started on a good note nailing a win in game one of the 8 Ball Set. Jim took advantage of the mistakes and some nice shooting to take games 4, 5 and 6 to win the set, 4 games to 2. Peter came storming back in the 9 Ball Set as he opened up the set nailing wins in the first three games to get on the hill quickly. The 4th game seem to change everything as Jim V nailed a 9 ball on the break and did not stop there, he won the next 3 games to finish off the set with a comeback win, 4 games to 3.
