Table 4: #3 Jim Pellerito vs #8 Jim Vohs Jim V opened the 8 Ball Set winning the first game of the set before Jim P notched the win in game 2. Jim V then took the next two games to get on the hill. Jim P posted one more win in game 5 before Jim V closed the door with a 4 to 2 set win. It looked like Jim P would get even in the 9 Ball Set as

#7 MATT DESSERT CLIMBS BACK ON TOP TEMPORARILY AS WE WAIT FOR #12 MIKE BATES AND #10 JOHN SURHIGH TO MAKE UP THEIR ROUND Table 1: #5 Peter Ramonat vs #6 Ray Ressler The 8 Ball Set opened with Peter posting wins in the 1st and 3rd games and Ray nailing wins in the 2nd & 4th games. Peter then missed some key shots that led to Ray being able to notch wins in the 5th and 6th games to finish off the set, 4 games to 2. Ray opened up the 9 Ball Set, which I was told by Peter that he “hates that game” with wins in the first three games. This included a 9 ball on the break win in game 2 and a 1-9 quick win in game 2. Ray then seem to stall and Peter got into the mix nailing back to back wins in games 4 & 5 to close the gap. Ray was able to find a win in game 6 to close the set out, 4 games to 2. The 10 Ball Set saw both player go back and forth

in the set, Peter opening with a win and Ray following suit. Peter nailed a 2-10 combo in the 3rd game. Ray won game 4 to tie Peter at 2 games each. Peter climbed on the hill first with Ray following right behind him. Again, a missed opportunity to finish the game by Peter opened the door for Ray to finish off game 7 and the set. Ray wins the set and the match 15 - 7. Good try to Peter and nice shooting by Ray. Table 2: #2 Walt Wnuk vs#9 John Killett

Walt has been trying to help John Killett and it has help somewhat. John received a scratch on the 8 ball by Walt in the first game of the 8 Ball Set. That would be the extent of the wins for John in the set as Walter posted wins in the next 4 games to win 4 games to 1. The 9 Ball Set found Walt winning the first three games of the set with the help of a couple of combos. Game one a 4-9, game 3 a 3-9 combo. John nailed a 4-9 combo in game 4 and Walt finished the set, using the 5 ball to sink the 9 ball for the set win, 4 games to 1. Walt continued to find combos for some quick wins in the 10 Ball Set. Walt wins game 1, John wins game 2. Walt posted back to back combo’s wins, a 3-10 and 4-10 in games 3 & 4. John found one more win with Walt winning game 6 for the set. Walt wins 4 to 2 for John. Walt wins the match, 15 to 4 for John. Continued bottom left column

Only two players found winners on breaks in last weeks league night at Roosevelts - Todd Cook and Ray Ressler both found 9 Balls on the break for winners in their matches - Good job to both!! He opened up the set with back to back wins. With some nice shooting and missed opportunities by Jim P, Jim V ran through the next four games in the set to win 4 games to 2. The 10 Ball Set saw Jim P again open with the first win of the set, but again, with some nice shooting Jim V took the next 4 games and the final set, 4 games to 1. Jim Vohs wins the match, 15 to 5 for Jim Pellerito. Great effort to Jim P and nice shooting by Jim V. Table 6: #4 Dave Javorski vs #7 Matt Dessert After last week struggling match, Matt seemed to rebound against Dave in this weeks play beginning with the 8 Ball Set. Matt started with a win in game one and did not stop

until he had run through all 4 games to win the set 4-0. Dave continued to struggle in the 9 Ball Set as Matt posted a 6-9 win in the first game. Dave won game 2 and then stalled again with missed shots that continued to give Matt the chance to finish off games and he did. Matt nailed his second 6-9 combo in game three and finished off the set winning games 4 & 5 as well for a 4 to 1 set win. Dave nailed the opening win in the 10 Ball Set before Matt nailed a win in game 2 and a 8-10 combo win in game 3. Dave slowed Matt down one more time, winning game 4. Matt finished the set winning the final 2 games for a 4-2 win. Matt wins the match 15 to 3 for

Dave. Good try by Dave and nice shooting by Matt. Table 7: #1 Todd Cook vs #12 Gary Loverde This was a match between two tough competitors last week. Gary opened up the 8 Ball Set with back to back wins putting Todd in the hole early. Todd nailed a win in game 3 but then was unable to stop Gary from posting his second back to back wins to finish off the set, 4 games to1. Todd opened up the 9 Ball Set with back to back wins to get off to a good start. This included a 9 ball on the break in game 2. Gary then went to work, nailing a win in game 3 followed by back to back quick combo wins in games 4 & 5, a 3-9 followed by a 5-9 to get on the hill. Gary nailed the final win in game 6 to win the set 4 games to 2. Continued on page 2

LEAGUE 27 FALL 2010 ROOSEVELTS/DAVE & BUSTERS Continued from page 1 Todd still reeling from the first two sets came out hot and opened up the 10 Ball Set with a very quick win nailing a 2-10 combo. He followed up with a win in game two. Gary not to be denied nailed back to back wins in games 3 & 4 to tie up the set. Todd nailed a win in game 5 and Gary came right back to tie Todd on the hill. Todd found an opening and took advantage with a final win in game 7 and the set. Todd wins the set, 4 games to 3 but loses the match 13 to 8. A good match between two good players. Good effort to Todd and nice shooting by Gary. Please continue to keep the Bates family in prayer. Mike will make up his match with John Surhigh.

Table 1: #1 Ron Price vs #12 Jaret Wilson Jaret has relayed the he has been struggling some the last several weeks and his woes continued in his match with Ron. In the beginning it did not appear that Jaret was struggling as he opened the 8 Ball Set winning the first two games. Ron did not wait long to get into the match as he posted wins in the next three games to get on the hill. Jaret caught him winning game 6 but could not close out the final game as Ron wins #7 for the set win 4-3. The 9 Ball Set was another back and forth affair as Jaret again posted the first win in the set. Ron again came right back and won game 2 and nailed a quick win in game 3 with a 1-9 combo. Jaret won game 4 and

then the players split the next two games to both get on the hill. It was Ron again getting the final game on his scoresheet to win the set 4 games to 3. It was Ron to lead off a win in the 10 Ball Set. Jaret found a fast win in game two, nailing a 1-10 combo and nailed a second win in a row in game 3. That was all she wrote as Ron posted wins in the next three games to win the final set, 4 games to 2. A very good try by Jaret and nice shooting by Ron as Ron wins the match, 15 to 8 for Jaret. Table 2: #13 Jim Pellerito vs #11 John Killett It looks like some of the helpful instructions that John received from Walter has paid off as John played decent in his match with Jim P. John was hot out of the gate as he nailed wins in the first three games of the 8 Ball Set to put Jim P per verbally behind the 8 ball. Jim slowed John down by winning game 4, but John notched a win in game 5 to finish off the set, 4 games to 1 for Jim. Jim opened up the 9 Ball Set winning game 1 and John notched a win in game 2. Jim won game 3 Continued bottom left column

#15 MIKE JERNIGAN WAS MATCHED UP AGAINST THE LEAGUE 27 SUMMER WINNER - #9 VICTOR FRANCISCO AND TAKES THE MATCH TO VAULT INTO A 2ND PLACE TIE WITH #16 M&M ~5 POINTS BEHIND 1ST PLACE JOE LOPICCOLA and then John went to town again, nailing wins in the next 3 games to finish off the set with a 4 games to 2 set win. Some how Jim got his eye back as he opened up the 10 Ball Set with wins in the first three games of the set to get on the hill early. Just like in the 8 ball set, John this time interceded with a win in game 4 and then watched Jim post the final win to win the set, 4 to 1. John takes the set, 11 to 8 for Jim in a close match. Good shooting by both.

Table 4: #15 Mike Jernigan vs #9 Victor Francisco This was the match of the night between two very accomplished pool shooters in the league. Victor opened the 8 Ball Set nailing the first win of the set. Mike came right back, winning game 2 but he did not stop there as he shut down Victor the rest of the set winning the next 3 games for a 4 to 1 set win. Mike notched the first win in the 9 Ball Set to post his 5th straight win. Victor won game two and then

was shut down again, as Mike won the next three games to finish off the set winning 4 games to 1. Victor came out firing in the 10 Ball Set, notching wins in the first two games. Mike continued to shoot well and notched wins in the next three games to climb on the hill. Victor joined Mike on the hill winning game 6 and the battle was on for the final game of the set. The game went back and forth and Mike J made the 10 ball to finish the set, 4 games to 3

for Victor. Mike J wins the match taking all three sets, 15 to 5 points for Victor. Good effort to Victor and nice shooting by Mike J. Table 5: #16 Mike (M&M) MacMahon vs #8 Wayne Brill Wayne opened up the 8 Ball Set with a win to get off to a good start. M&M then went on a run posting wins in the next four games to win the set 4 games to 1. M&M continued his fine shooting making it 6 straight wins as he opened the 9 Ball Set with back to back wins. Wayne responded with his own back to back wins to tie M&M at 2 games each. M&M notched game 5 to get on the hill only to watch Wayne nail a win in game 6 to get on the hill with M&M. Wayne was unable to stop M&M as he watched the 9 ball in game 7

go in and M&M win the set. It was Wayne’s time to shine as he opened up the 10 Ball Set winning the first two games to get ahead of M&M. M&M came back firing in 10 balls as he wins the next three games to get on the hill ahead of Wayne. Wayne notched a win in game 6 but again, M&M found the opening needed to win the final game to win the set 4 -3. M&M takes the match, 15 to 7 for Wayne. Great effort by Wayne and nice shooting to M&M. Table 6: #17 Kent Jenkins vs #7 Brandon Rayl After opening up the 8 Ball Set with a win Kent seemed to stall out as Brandon made a run nailing wins in the next thee games to jump on the hill with a 3-1 game advantage. Kent fought back winning games 5 & 6 to

match Brandon on the hill. Brandon held on to take the set winning game 7 for a 4-3 set win. The 9 Ball Set was the complete opposite as Brandon took game 1 and then stalled as Kent took over. Games 2 & 3 were very quick wins for Kent as he nailed back to back 1-9 combo’s to win both games. He posted a win in game 4 and then nailed his third combo of the set, a 5-9 win to finish off the set, 4 games to 1. Kent opened the 10 Ball Set posting a win in game 1.Brandon came right back winning games 2 & 3 with a 2-10 combo in game 3. He stalled and Kent got hot nailing wins in the next three games for the set win, 4-2. Kent wins the match 13 to 8 for Brandon. Good effort to Brandon and nice shooting by Kent.

LEAGUE 27 FALL 2010 ROOSEVELTS/DAVE & BUSTERS Table 17: #18 Peter Ramonat vs #6 Ray Ressler Peter and Ray met the previous night at League 27Roosevelts. Peter lost the match the previous night and was out to turn the tables around at D&B’s. Ray notched a win in game one of the 8 Ball Set and then sat as Peter nailed back to back wins in games 2 & 3. Ray came right back and notched wins in games 4 & 5 to get on the hill. Peter matched him winning game 6 to tie Ray on the hill. Peter was cruising with the game looking like he had it in hand until a scratch gave Ray the chance to run the balance of the balls on the table to win the game and the set. That is just what he did. Ray wins the set 4 games to 3. Peter relayed for the second night in a row “ I hate this game – 9

ball and the results showed just that. Ray started the 9 Ball Set winning the first two games. Peter nailed a win in game 3 and then just seemed to stall out missing several chances to win games as Ray won two more games to close out the set, 4 games to 1. The 10 Ball Set seem to go Ray’s way the entire set. When Peter missed, Ray was able to take advantage of them and it led to win after win for Ray. It was 4 straight wins for Ray to close out the set and keep Peter off the scoresheet in the 10 ball set. Ray wins the match, 15 to 4 for Peter. A valiant effort by Peter and nice shooting by Ray. Table 9: #20 Joe Lopiccola vs #4 Scott Kroll Joe continues to shoot well and even though Scott has improved dramatically he could not overcome some nice shooting by Joe. Joe came out pounding the balls into the pockets and nailed

wins in all 4 games played in the 8 Ball Set. Scott stopped the streak at 4 games as he opened up the 9 Ball Set winning game one. Joe again made some nice shots off Scott’s misses and posted 4 more wins in the set, which included a 9 Ball break and run out in game 5. Scott came back in the 10 Ball Set as he opened with back to back wins. Again, Scott made mistakes that opened up the doors for Joe to get back into the set. He posted wins in the next 4 games to finish off the final set, 4 games to 2 for Scott. Joe takes the match, 15 to 3 for Scott. Good try by Scott and very nice shooting by Joe. Ron again came right back and slammed the door on Dave winning the next 4 games to win 4 games to 2. The 10 Ball Set went back and forth with Dave winning games 1 & 3 and Ron posting wins in 2 & 4. Dave again stalled out and Ron won the 5&6 to win the set. Ron won the match, 15 to 6. Good shooting by both.

Common Scratch If the cue ball is anywhere within the shaded area, a shot at the 8 ball in the side can result in a common scratch. Although the natural tangent line is to the short rail clear of the corner pocket, many beginners end up scratching in the corner (broken blue line). This is because the cue ball picks up natural forward due to table friction. Forward will cause the cue ball to bend off the tangent toward the corner pocket. Remember, to follow a natural tangent line there can be no roll or spin on the cue ball when it contacts the object ball. Protect yourself against the scratch in this situation by placing a little bottom on the cue ball. When the cue hits the object ball it will bend the tangent line back away from the corner. IMPORTANT: Do not shoot easy believing you can pull the cue ball up short of the corner! If you are too timid, the cloth will rub the bottom spin off the cue ball causing it to start rolling forward. The cut is too thin to shoot easy and expect the cue ball to consistently stop short of the corner.
