“In Economics there are a world of choices. So why shouldn’t your fashion taste be the same? An extensive list of options that best apply to your likes and compliments your style”

Red, White, and Nude The lyrics to America the Beautiful come to mind as I sit under a tree in Central Park, not far from my internship on 59th street and 7th avenue. It is a lovely day in the city and I have decided to browse through a magazine I picked up at the office. Somewhere between the page boasting the latest celebrity gossip and the annoying ad for always, I stumbled upon a eye-popping editorial exposing voluptuous curves of a highfashion model. “Who’s body looks like this?” I ask myself, inquisitively flipping through the pages in search of a flaw. Not a single one in site. I instead focus my eyes on the clothing choices of the stylist. Sheer white gowns exposing everything. The only part of the model’s body that was managed to be covered was her face. Layers of rosy eye make-up and bronzer that still seemed to be downplayed to emphasize the ravishing red lipstick painted upon her lips. Seductive in her glance tempting in her stance yet hiding much more than coverup under her transparent negligee. This model represented America, an ode to her red passion, her white purity, and nude frame exposing a perfection that beneath lies a deeper…

Good Intern 7 Virtues of Interning Punctuality: Being on time is the number one rule of thumb for an intern. Making the effort to be at your appointment a couple of minutes early, indubitably is a sign of determination. You only get one opportunity to prove your worthiness and exhibiting a respect for time shows that you can be there when it really counts. Professionalism: Being a professional is much more than acting the part, it is about presenting yourself as someone that is confident and experienced in their field of work. This involves wearing suitable work attire, being prepared to make the quick decisions, acknowledging one’s peers formally, and focusing on the task at hand. People will be impressed with your ready-to-work demeanor

Knowledge: To be the best Intern, knowledge of the company you are working for is essential. In the age of internet, Interns can now find it easier than ever to research everything from product lines, blog websites, e-commerce brands, and daily updates on relevant information relating to the field of interest. At best, what the internet cannot answer, you can always just ask your superior. Communication: Be the leading orator in your workplace. Say what you mean and mean what you say, but know when to speak. Pronounce your words clearly and don’t try to impress your boss with words you can hardly spell, but instead surprise and impress your audience with the content of your conversation.

Passion is going the extra mile to ensure the quality of your work. Dedication for something you truly love doing can be illustrated by doing more than what is often expected of you.

Ambition: Persistence is a key element to success. Not forgoing your dreams, morals, or beliefs for a lesser cause equates being an ambitious intern that settles for nothing or no one. This attribute will allow people to realize your determination and in most cases locks you in as a potential employee.

Diversion: Diversion:Enjoy Enjoyyourself. yourself. Sustainable Fashion The Green movement is taking root in new ways by creating options for a safer planet while ensuring the longevity of resources used to create our favorite fashions. The color green is associated with more efficient production, conservation of essential goods such as water, plastic, and fabric, and products with ingredients that promote safer consumption. Green continues to trend in small and big businesses alike, opening doors for jobs and technology in a global recession. Companies like Coca-Cola, Good Housekeeping, and H&M have all pioneered campaigns to advocate ecofriendly efforts. Their active role in the movement ensures higher ethical standards for future manufacturers and conserves our planets’ limited natural resources. Global retail industries have begun to implement greener initiatives paving the way for other smaller industries to create smarter and sensible means of production. Retail Clothing Giant H&M recently released its Conscious Actions Sustainability Report. The report sited H&M as the world’s number one user of organic cotton and conserver of 300 million liters of water in denim production since 2010. Additionally, by using organic fabrics such as linen, polyester, and tencel H&M was able to produce a fashionable product that could still be sold for under $100!

Another company that has their foot on the right path is SoleRebels, a shoe brand managed by ethno-fashion proponent CEO Beth. Alemnu’s eco-sensible shoes abide by Ethiopian craft practices, such as hand-spun organic cotton and artisan hand-loomed fabric, a technique that promotes small business employment opportunities, rewards customers with a one-of-a-kind purchase, and conserves materials for future production. “With our unique focus on eco-sensible, recycled products as well as cultural artisan crafting, we feel strongly that it will excite footwear customers globally for a long time to com,” Bethelhem states about Sole Rebel, a brand that is today sold in 30 countries around the world through world wide web sites like Amazon and Endless. International brand and beverage Coca-Cola has also stamped its name on the green scene through its conservatism in bottling and retailed merchandise. One of Coke’s many sustainable efforts includes the successful Give It Back recycling program. Coke encourages its customers to return their used plastic bottles to be recycled into t-shirts, backpacks, jackets, hats, and other wearable products. These materials are transferred into fun eco-apparel that can be bought and enjoyed by another satisfied customer. By giving back consumed waste the Polyethylene Terephthalate or PET bottles donated are recycled, which saves more energy than producing new bottles with virgin materials. The value of aluminum and PET wasted annually is 1.5 billion dollars, money and resources that Coke has found a way to effectively save while still sharing fashion with its already eager to buy consumers.

Leanne Hope Fairweather was born a Georgia Peach on September 19, 1989 in the humble suburbs outside of the growing city of Atlanta. East of the state’s capital, the community of Stone Mountain was known as a hub for rich historical culture and West Indian migrants. Miss Fairweather, cultivated by the seeds of her two Jamaican-born parents, resided in the fruitful city of Stone Mountain where she received Kindergarten to 12th Grade education from Shadow Rock Elementary up until her graduation from Stephenson High School in 2008. Leanne’s ambition was apparent from an early age and high achievement classes helped harbor her love for art, literature, and social studies. Under the direction of her grandparents, Leanne began attending a local Salvation Army Boy’s & Girl’s Club where she became active in the Youth Program. Her membership in the band and dance teams gained her leadership among her peers in Music and Gospel Arts. Her talents as a musician and dancer took her traveling to Texas, Florida, and Virginia including overseas to Panama and the Bahamas. Her exposure to foreign culture and language nurtured her desire to learn Spanish, a language that she has mastered and utilizes for personal, educational, and tutoring purposes. Miss Fairweather aspires to one day work overseas as an American ambassador and eventually wishes to gain employment with the United Nations. During her free time Leanne enjoys outdoor activities, drawing, reading, and cooking. She considers herself a spokesperson for Reggae music and history, and strongly embraces her Caribbean heritage. Hope is currently pursuing her B.A. in International Economics and Modern Languages at Georgia State University.
