Transforming a State’s Digital Presence Public sector organisations are being tasked to modernise their IT capabilities to support better citizen engagement and improve service delivery levels. But sometimes there is a misalignment between digital priorities and business needs, as well as a resistance to change that sometimes exists in government agencies. In addition to these challenges, governors and their CIOs are under the spotlight for a portfolio of underperforming projects, legacy systems that are consuming significant resources, and the ever-evolving risks associated with poorly protected networks and cybersecurity concerns. On top of all of this, is the competition for top IT talent in large metropolitan areas like most state capitals. The fight for real IT talent that can lead statewide digital transformation efforts.
CHALLENGE: A large U.S. state government IT organisation had found it challenging to meet the needs of a digital transformation. The state had recently revamped its IT organisational structures and job classifications, in addition to facing 21st century technical challenges like utilisation of cloud services and updating legacy systems to modernise web applications.
The state’s IT department is made up of roughly 1,500 staff members that are supporting over 38,000 employees and serving 6.6 million residents.
