I am from Boca Raton, Florida My Cultural background is Italian, French, English & Hungarian. My parents divorced in 2011. I live with my Father and Brother. My Mother lives in Galesburg, Illinois. I am currently a student with no job, but I am looking for one. Unfortunately I only speak one language. I am lived in South Florida my whole life, first Delray Beach, Boca Raton, now in Miami for school. I have always had an interest in interior design but it wasn’t until my second year of college that I decided to focus on interior design. The factors that have affected my path are my change in majors and my family. I changed my major from photography to Interior Architecture so I started at the School of Architecture later. For the last five year my family as struggled with the illness of my grandfather, then my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer in March 2015 then my Aunt was diagnosed with cancer in April 2016. Sadly my family has had a lot of lost in the passed year. My Grandfather in December 2015. My Aunt in April 2016 and most recently my Grandmother August 2016. The last school year was very rough for me because so much was going on it hinder my ability to focus and preform well in school.

OLOR

Personal color preferences: Likes: purple, teal/turquoise and red. Black, white and gray. Dislikes: yellow, orange and green. How does it play out in your life? I don’t really wear much color. I tend to wear more black, white and gray. Occasionally I’ll wear some the colors I like. For some reason I am very draw to floral print. However, I tend to decorate with the colors I like more often then I wear them.

M.2 Theory + Color

Hue, Value and chroma are the three dimensions of color. Additive color theory applies to combining the three primiaries of light. Subtractive color theroy applies to combining the three primaries of pigment. There are many color systems available. Each system offers it own contribution to learing about and working with other colors.

History of the Project Mies & Koolhaas

The Beginning of the Design

Background Information

During the design process there was a lot of controversy about Koolhaas design and how close it was to one of Mies building.

In 1938 Mies fled Germany, when the Nazis shut down the Bauhaus He accepted the offer to head the Architecture school at Armour Institute, now IIT

He proposed to stick the Commons inside of his building. Two of its exterior walls would become walls within the student center, and the other two would become linear extensions of the center’s walls.

He was asked to design the institutes new campus. The Crown Hall was the last structure Mies build.

IHPA (Illinois Historic Preservation Agency) asked that at least 12 feet separate the two buildings. July 2000, the staff had reversed their Decision.

In 1958, he retired from IIT because his private practice was taking off. Building closest to Mies heart were the library and student union center.

A roof for the student center is Cantilevered over the Commons.

1993, IIT set a national commission to “shape the next century of IIT”.

The eastern facade of Koolhaas center adsorbs one side of Commons, to visually separate the two building Koolhaas used glass facade.

1997, Five Finalist were chosen Koolhaas was one of the final five. 1998, Koolhaas was commissioned to build the student center.

Where the 2 building meet it is Surrounded by “Mies courtyard”.

Main Colors used: Orange and green.

Koolhaas picked orange as the unifying theme to contrast Mies.

Mies painted his steel black to reflect the qualities of his building, elegant, strong and protecting, also they were mysterious and forbidding. Orange is the opposite of this, happy, warm, generous and invigoration, also its Overbearing and superficial. Green complements the orange.

Layout

Koolhaas made the building very flat, in which different elements, sport bar, bookstore, post office and cafe, would rub up against each other. He tracked movement across the campus. Noticed the heavily traveled path, which were turned into walkways through the building that divided it into “series of islands with its own functions and visual character. Aluminum walkways that mark the heavily

A Walk Through The McCormick Tribune Campus Center

Descride & Analyize When you first walk into the space that colors are a bit overwhelming at first but then as you continue to walk around the center they all just kind of fade into place. Koolhaas choose to use orange and green because it contrasted Mies minimalist Architecture of glass and steel.

Orange

Warmth, fruitfulness, brightness, happiness, cheerfulness, jovial, strength, endurance, and festivity Health: Known to increase the amount of oxygen to the brain

Green

Relaxed, growth, renewal, eternal life, freshness, youthful, healthy tranquility, peaceful Health: Balance, equilibrium, ease tremors, twitching and muscle spasms, health and wellbeing The color impacts the spaces that it is in. Setting the tone. Areas of work are orange and area of play are green. The green spaces also include Mies Courtyard, the hanging Garden, and the other little areas of natures. The orange of his building "Somehow brings out the color in the Mies building, not only by contrast, but by raising the issue of color. You suddenly see much more color in Mies." - Koolhaas Rem Koolhaas does a variety of building style, however I would say that is always makes bold statements with his building. Whether its with color, interior layout or the architectural exterior.

Conclusion & Summary

The Mcormick Tribune Campus Center at IIT contrast the building around it. Mies Van dr Roe was the origanil designer of the campus and many buildings on it. The large flat building as a open concept where everything kind of mixes together. The key colors used n the design are orange and green. They play a part in deturning the space and there purpose. Koolhas picked the color orange because it cncrasted and emphisized the buildings that Mies designed.

I yellow tea kettle acts as a form of caution in this scene. Blues – relax and calm. Thinking he as out smarted Wallace, Butch as clamed downed and started to relax in his home.

The colors in the film were a mix of neutral and warm colors. Each scene was emphasized by the color choice, either being all neutral or warm or a mix of both. Which set the mood for the scene or emphasized a character’s personality. Yellow was used in the film to create an sense of cauation. A foreshadowing that something is going to happen. Red and blue were used to accentuates Mia Wallace's eyes and lips. After watching this film and analyzing it I have noticed a lot more in the film that I have before. The colors chosen helps or supports the story. The colors selected can also foreshadow a situation that a character may get into later on in the film.

About the Brand & Building Contrast of Hue Contrast of Value Contrast of a Design Feature Contrast of Texture Focal Point

About the brand & buidling

About the brand: MIU MIU

Starting in 1993 as a form of expression and creativity MIU MIU, which is a brand of Prada, offers a “sensual, rebellious take on dressing-up.” When Prada was at its most minimalist, MIU MIU offered a counterpoint: it explores fashion as a rarefied form, giving elegance and sophistication a new and twisted meaning.

About the building

The 1,600-plus-square-foot, two-story building was designed by Architect Roberto Baciocchi. The stores glass facade are filled with a perforated metal curtain. The interior has MIU MIU’s gold damask on the walls, floor to ceiling mirrors, black marble floors, beige carpeting, white painted canvas ceilings and velvet mohair seating.

Contrast

of

Hue

Defined:

Select colors that are on the opposite one another on the color wheel.

There is no contrast of hue in the interior decor itself. However the greenish wallpaper contrast with the red handbags within the space. Green and red are on opposites sides of the color wheel.

Contrast of Value

Defined:

A light/dark contrast of black, gray, or white values can emphasized without the use of chromatic hues. Even though there is color within the space. The floors and the ceiling emphasize the space and carry you through the store. The floors are black marble and beige carpeting. The ceiling is white painted canvas.

Contrast of a Design Feature

Defined: Shape and form

Each section of the store is framed by an entryway. Drawing attention to the next section of the store.

Contrast of Texture

There are a variety of textures, the damask wallpaper, marble floors, carpet and the velvet mohair seating. Using different textures adds emphasis to the space.

Defined: smooth vs. rough

Focal Point

Defined:

A single design elements that receives the greatest visual emphasis in a room. The focal point are the displays the display draw attention by the changed in texture. Also the entryways to each section create a focal point, implementing directional movement that leads the eye toward the element.

M.9 Proportion +Scale Unity + Harmony + Color Proportion of color should be considered in the context of the scale of the space and the amount of lighting available Scale and proportion can enhance and alter the visual perception of our environment Scale refers to our relationship of the human body Repetition of color throughout the space unifies the palette and the interior design One color can be used to unify two different design elements Colors that share a common hue will relate and harmonize better.

DISCUSSION | ANALYSIS Line

“Line is the connection between two points in space.” The louver wall system is an art piece, creating portraits of artists from different period and genres with these vertical elements. This accentuates the height of the space bringing the views eye to the ceiling. It also provides a sense of rhythm and movement. The columns within the space also emphasize the height of the space. The columns connect the first and second floor of the space which highlights the double height space. The columns also provide a sense of movement within the space.

Shape

“Shape is the result of one or more line connecting to form a two dimensional image.” The large screen made of translucent circular discs contrasts the linear shapes throughout the space. Scene in the plan there are many irregular and regular shapes within the space. These shapes make up conference rooms, office spaces, among other space in the workplace. The different shaped spaces are reinforced by different colors creating an environment and stimulating the senses, making it an enjoyable place to work.

DISCUSSION | ANALYSIS Texture

“Texture is the characteristic visual and tactile quality of the surface of a material.” There are a variety of material within the space, glass, wood, concrete, paint, and fabric. These different materials provides two types of textures within the workspace. One type is natural rough, smooth or matte finished materials, such as wood, glass, concrete and fabric. The second type is reflective or translucent materials, such as glass and paint. The different texture bring harmony to the space creating unity between the two floors.

Pattern

CONCLUSION| EXPERIENCE

The use of line, shape, texture, pattern, and color with the workspace is creates a enjoyable work environment. The color chosen, red, yellow, blue, and green create an energized work environment due to there vibrate hue. The patterns and textures keep the space from becoming dual. The use of wood brings a touch of warmth into the workplace creating a contrast with the energizing colors. Looking at this work environment and analyzing each design element really helped to understand the space. It also was a good example of what can be done in the workplace. Just because it’s a work environment it doesn’t mean you have to shy away from color, texture and patterns.
