Private luxury moments. Summer transforms the natural surroundings of Lech Zürs. Having shed their white winter coating, the mountains possess a true elemental beauty that makes them even more sublime. They appear primal, almost a little raw, but this is wonderfully offset by the lush green of the meadows and forests. As they gently wind around the majestic peaks, they positively demand to be explored step by step on a hiking tour. In summer, Lech Zürs exerts a special appeal as a retreat and a haven of peace that helps restore a sense of harmony to body and mind. Located at the Arlberg, it has attracted mountain enthusiasts for over a century and has earned a global reputation as part of the elite “Best of the Alps” network. Nevertheless, the range of activities that go beyond the everyday is not limited to hikes and mountaineering – Lech Zürs also boasts a variety of sporting and cultural options. While visitors to this “World Gourmet Village” are free to delight in the wonderful creations served up by top chefs, those with a thirst for knowledge can engage in a rewarding intellectual exchange. At the Arlberg, big ideas have room to grow. This is the inspiring magic of summer in Lech Zürs: it opens our eyes to everything that everyday life keeps hidden.

Reach for the summit

30

Anyone looking to truly experience the mountain must approach it step by step. If you follow your own inner rhythm, you will be rewarded with a new sense of strength and calm. After all, hiking is more than just a sport: it is a passion for movement, best combined with a love of nature. At the Arlberg, we celebrate this passion with over 350 kilometres of marked hiking trails and outstanding rest areas. We also offer the Lech Card, which enables guests to enjoy discounts on leisure activities and free cable car travel all summer long.

Experience Lech in summer Lech Zürs features a comprehensive network of trails covering all difficulty levels, with options ranging from high-altitude routes to family hikes. These trails lead visitors to roaring wild rivers, tranquil mountain lakes, stunning vantage points at the summits and rustic mountain huts.

THEMED TRAILS The Arlberg boasts three themed trails that wind their way through the mountain landscape. Much more than mere hiking routes, they give walkers the time to fall in love with nature. First, Der Grüne Ring (“The Green Ring”) includes three stages that lead to the most beautiful locations and immerse you in a new world of myth and legend. Next, the Lechweg trail sees long-distance hikers follow the route of Europe’s last remaining wild river. And finally, the high-altitude Tannbergweg trail takes in a collection of sights, residences and legends from the history of the Walser people settlement Lech Zürs. 32

G U I D E D E XC U R S I O N S A voyage of discovery with the Lech Card: every week, expert hiking guides in Lech Zürs host a herbal excursion, a hike to the Körbersee lake and a magical journey through the ages on the geological circular hiking trail.

Lech Festival Wine

In Lech, the interplay of taste sensations takes on crucial importance. Every year, local restaurateurs and sommeliers team up with their counterparts in the partner towns of Beaver Creek (USA), Kampen (on the island of Sylt, Germany) and Hakuba (near Nagano in Japan) to crown the “Lech Festival Wine” from Weinviertel wine growing region in Lower Austria.

THE WINNING WINES An independent jury selects the winning Weinviertel DAC wines in the Grüner Veltliner and Zweigelt categories, together with red wine cuvée. The project, which falls under the authority of the Probus winemakers’ initiative run by Generali, is conducted in collaboration with the regional wine committee of the Weinviertel itself and the Weinstrasse Weinviertel association. G R Ü N E R V E LT L I N E R , A SPICY AND PEPPERY DELIGHT The Lech Festival Wine – Weinviertel DAC – is closely connected to the Grüner Veltliner grape variety. This

Experience Lech in winter When the first snow falls in Lech Zürs, nature is coated in skiing enthusiasts’ favourite colour: white. Anticipation soon reaches fever pitch, with fans eager to return to the 305 kilometres of marked ski runs and countless freeride options. All the cutting-edge cable cars and lifts that combine to form the Ski Arlberg ski area can be accessed with a single ticket – the Ski Arlberg ski pass.

A U S T R I A’ S LARGEST SKI AREA Over the course of many years, there have been ongoing efforts to establish a fully interconnected ski area at the Arlberg – and with the opening of the new Flexenbahn cable car, the dream has become a reality. This investment has helped create a continuous network encompassing St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech, Oberlech, Schröcken and Warth. Ski Arlberg is now the largest connected ski area in Austria and among the 5 biggest in the world.

72

A NEW DIMENSION OF SKIING The enormous scope of the Ski Arlberg ski area serves as its most prominent seal of quality, promising skiers a wonderfully wide-ranging experience. A total of 88 cutting-edge lifts and cable cars ensure that the 305 kilometres of signposted ski runs are fully interconnected – and there are a further 200 kilometres of premium off piste powder snow runs to boot. Go to www.skiarlberg.at to find out more.

R U N O F FA M E The most demanding way to experience Ski Arlberg in all its glory is the Run of Fame. Featuring 18,000 metres of ascents and descents, this 85-kilometre circuit leads from Rendl in St. Anton via Zürs and Lech before reaching Warth. Visit www.run-offame.ski for additional information.

OFF-PISTE: A SENSE OF FREEDOM Arlberg is beloved by the freeriding community thanks to the large amounts of snow and of course the variety of powder snow lines. The terrific atmosphere at the Arlberg also plays a key role for these off-piste thrill-seekers.

DER WEISSE RING (“THE WHITE RING”) – THE SKIING CIRCUIT This is yet another legendary skiing circuit, combining the Arlberg locations of Zürs, Lech, Oberlech and Zug by means of nature and technology. Skiers must overcome 5,500 metres of ascents and descents on the 22-kilometre run. See www.derweissering.at for further details.
