PURPOSE The purpose of this pilot training program is to design and test a new and innovative approach to develop a new generation of indigenous female leaders and help them apply for leadership roles in their communities, in non-profit organizations and other purpose driven organizations focused on the wellbeing and advancement of Native communities. NEEDS & OPPORTUNITIES Native populations across the United States are facing challenges in providing education and professional development opportunities for their young female population. Not being able to follow their dreams and aspiration puts them at a higher risk for substance abuse, school drop-out, teen pregnancy, depression and suicide. From our many years of work toward alleviating poverty in America though youth led rural development, we know that the young women in indigenous communities are yearning for meaningful careers and opportunities for self-actualization. At the same time, they care deeply about the challenges and needs of their families and communities.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The leadership training and develop program will focus on participants to: 1. uncover their aspirations, passions and strengths (talents) 2. identify the needs in society and the values they care most deeply about 3. develop a personal purpose and mission statement, serving as their compass in life articulate and 4. communicate their unique message via video and social media PROGRAM APPROACH This is a 4-5 months online action learning program with nine online group sessions, offline learning assignments and coaching during the offline learning assignments, facilitated by an experienced leadership coach and facilitator, and with participation of professional instructors in the areas of visual art and video communication. The program is sponsored by the Center for Rural Outreach and Public Services (CROPS) and supported by a non-profit leader and two times Encore Purpose Prize Fellow.
