I served as Creative Director for BAM Publications in Oakland, CA from 1982 to 1992. During that time I supervised a staff of 23 and managed an annual department budget of $350,000. We produced both Northern and Southern California editions of BAM, the California Music Magazine, twice each month. We also produced Northern and Southern editions of MicroTimes, California’s Computer Magazine and DRIVE!, an automotive magazine, once each month. After I left BAM to start my own company, they began publishing This Week in Contra Costa County, a weekly entertainment and lifestyle magazine. In it’s second year of publication, the company hired me to redesign the magazine.

Bill's book "Knees for Life" gives hope to those people that were told that they needed to either live with the pain or have knee surgery. You can be knee pain free by reading and applying the methods in this book.
Most knee pain sufferers justify and “accept” their pain as being something they will need to live with the rest of their life. They are “stuck” with no answers as to why their knees hurt or what is causing their knee pain told they will have to deal with the pain and wait until they are “old enough” for a knee replacement surgery. Nothing could be further from the truth! Discover the underlying, hidden cause of knee pain – at the source and how to stop it for good.

Downtown San José
The 1906 Earthquake in the Santa Clara Valley
“The truest and best club work tends to broaden the sympathy and widen the conception, if not the brotherhood of man, at least the sisterhood of woman.”
San José was ravaged by the 1906 earthquake. Most of its downtown buildings suffered serious damage. Every building on the west side of First Street crumbled. A half-dozen churches dropped, and San Jose High School was destroyed. Most store fronts on Santa Clara Street were damaged, and the Auzerais Building and the Unique Theater were toppled. A fire roared through a rooming house on Locust Street, killing seven. The Hall of Justice was demolished. A total of nineteen people died in San José, and the damage to property was estimated at $5,000,000.

On April 18, 1906, an 8.3* magnitude earthquake tore open almost 300 miles of the San Andreas fault, from San Juan Bautista to the Mendocino Coast. The impact on San Francisco has been widely reported—more than 3,000 dead, and property damage in excess of $500,000,000 (in 1906 dollars). Images of the fire that followed have been imprinted on history.

The quake’s force in the Santa Clara Valley is not so well-known. Almost two hundred people died, and hundreds of buildings were destroyed. Many fires erupted, and thousands camped outdoors, afraid to re-enter damaged homes. At night, South Bay residents could see a glow in the sky to the north as San Francisco burned.

“My room was on the second floor, but when I picked myself up I was in the basement of the building. I crawled up and out over the debris and escaped through a window on a level with the ground. After getting out I found this was one of the third story windows.”
This recollection documents the catastrophe in this valley that April morning exactly one hundred years ago, and urges us to prepare for the next “big one.”

The same seismograph, located at Gottingen, Germany, recorded both the 1906 Earthquake and the Loma Prieta Earthquake. This diagram indicates that the 1906 Earthquake released about sixteen times more energy than the Loma Prieta. Research suggests that the next 1906-type earthquake will be similar in intensity as the Loma Prieta, but will last three or more times longer: 45–60 seconds.
— State Senator Cornelius Pendelton, a guest at the Vendome Hotel
* The 8.3 magnitude for the 1906 earthquake was based on research by Charles Richter in 1958. Current research indicates that the magnitude ranged between 7.7 and 7.9.
