July Newsletter

Hello Division Eighteen, This is LeeAnn Owens, your Lieutenant Governor. I hope that you all have been having a great summer! Hopefully you’ve also been using this time to prepare for the upcoming school year! Please remember that Key Club doesn’t end with the school year! You should continue to hold meetings and carry out service projects! This newsletter will include information about ICON and the upcoming divisional. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon! My Kiwanis Committee Representative, Mrs. Vail, can be reached at (518)783-6326 or mbethvny@gmail.com. As always, please contact me if there’s ever anything that I can help you with or questions that I can answer!

Upcoming Events We will have a divisional in August! Remember that all future divisionals are being held at the East Greenbush community library. Tamarac is hosting the Divisional Service Project. We will be making cards for children at St. Jude’s Children’s research hospital. Start thinking about what your club would like to do for your Divisional Service Project! It would be great if you could make it connect to one of your District Projects!

Social Networking You can help keep in touch with the division by joining the Division 18 Facebook group! I also recommend that you check out the Key Club app. There are a lot of great articles and service ideas! The Membership Committee has started the Humans of Key Club project (HOKC). It is modeled after the Humans of New York blog. It will include stories about Key Clubbers from throughout the District! Keep on eye out for HOKC on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Be sure to subscribe for Governor Jacob’s State of the District emails! You can subscribe on nydkc.org.

Service Spotlights Please remember that you should continue to do service projects over the summer! Send service spotlights (pictures and a description of a service spotlight) to me after events. I will send these to the District Webmaster, Danny Qiu, so that he can publish them on the district website! I will also use these in my newsletters!

ICON 2014 So many great memories were made at this year’s International Convention! About forty five people from the New York District attended. Laken Kelly, Immediate Past Division 24 Lt. Governor was elected International Trustee! The House of Delegates voted on six amendments to the International Bylaws. You should have all received an email that described each of them and the outcome of the vote. We all had a great time! We represented the District well. We all got the chance to meet Key Clubbers from all over the country and even some international Key Clubbers!

ICON The most important thing that I took away from ICON was that I gained a greater understanding of Key Club as an international organization. During the opening session they carried flags in from each of the countries that have established Key Clubs. We generally think of Key Club as an American institution. Although it started in the U.S. it has spread around the globe! The point that I’m trying to make is that every District, every club, and every member make a difference!

Eliminate This is the last year we have to reach our fundraising goal for the eliminate project. This means that your club should really be pushing the Eliminate Project and trying to raise as much money as possible for the cause! So far the New York District has raised over $5,000 for Eliminate this service year! Trick-or-Treat for Unicef is a great way to raise money for the cause! Remember to submit Fundraising Report Forms for and fundraisers that you do! Otherwise we can’t count the money that your club raised in our totals for the District!

Paperwork Chart Secretary Heather regularly updates a spreadsheet with the status of forms for every club in the District. This includes ERF’s and MRF’s, but not FRF’s. I’ve included a picture of it so that you can see where your club is wth your paperwork. If you ever want to know what forms you need to submit, just ask!
