Ideal for anyone pursuing a care career, our Health and Social Care Top-up Degree reflects the changing requirements of those working in the health and social care sector. You will combine academic study with practical application, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of health and social care. You will critically reflect practice issues, identifying care challenges and how to overcome them and will work towards a higher level of practice as you identify your specialism. You will study emerging legislation, exploring the impact of this upon the sector. You will also shape your learning through research and complete a dissertation on a topic of your choice. ABOUT THE COURSE Combining science and wellbeing, our foundation degree increases your knowledge allowing you to use new therapies and developments to tackle existing healthcare issues. Deepen your understanding of anatomy and physiology, explore the legal aspects of healthcare and develop your communication and interpersonal skills ready for progression. Our selection of modules support your personal and professional development. Alongside exploring concepts of health and wellbeing you will study complementary therapies identifying alternative approaches to conventional medicine. This course will provide you with all of the knowledge needed to use play to aid with children’s cognitive understanding and to minimise trauma. Healthcare play specialists can gain progressional registration with Hospital Play Staff Education Trust (HPSET).

Hospital Play Staff Education Trust (HPSET) fees Throughout your course, you will be mentored by a HPSET registered specialist and can also apply for registration (additional fees associated). Support service users and help provide high-quality healthcare in a hospital of community setting as a healthcare assistant. Throughout our Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 5 you will coordinate care and assist in total patient assessment as you work as part of a wider health and social care team.
LENGTH Part-time: 18-24 months
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Candidates may have achieved two A levels at grade D or above or BTEC Level 3 Dip/Ext Dip MM/MMP profile as well as GCSE grade 4s including English Language. International qualifications are assessed against the above criteria. Speakers of other languages may need an IELTS score of at least 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any one pathway) or a recognised Level 2 English qualification.

ABOUT THE COURSE Help with providing high-quality healthcare with this practical apprenticeship. Trainees who successfully complete this apprenticeship will be able to work as a healthcare assistant practitioner in a professional setting. As you progress through this apprenticeship you’ll develop your practical healthcare skills as well as your bedside manner. You will learn how to assess patients and coordinate care as well as assist with clinical tasks such as catheterisation, wound care and discharge planning. By the end of this apprenticeship your areas of expertise will include: • Assisting with total patient assessment • Coordinating care (including referrals to other practitioners) • Assisting in clinics with catheterisation, wound care discharge planning • Promoting the values and behaviours of an assistant practitioner • Working as part of a health and social care team • Providing high-quality and compassionate individual care • Understanding the healthcare environments and care sector Progression will depend on your individual circumstances.
