ELCOME

Welcome to the cultural quarter of Leeds and another season packed with opportunities to discover, perform and appreciate music of all kinds.

Joining us this semester are classical heavyweights the Fidelio Trio, Wolfgang Manz and Deborah York; Latin-jazz virtuosos the Colman Brothers; producer Will Hicks; film composer John Harle; and former world beatbox champion, Bellatrix. Performances from our own ensembles – such as the Chamber Orchestra and New Music Collective – sit alongside student showcases; and we also venture beyond campus to venues like Leeds Town Hall, Wakefield Cathedral and London’s Steinway Hall. Our music courses range from a day to three years in length, with everything from beginner piano classes to postgraduate degrees. We also cater for young musicians aged 10–17 in our Saturday Music School. See page 56 for full details of our short courses for musicians of all ages and abilities. Sharpen your skills, indulge your ears and open your mind. Let’s make some music.

Performances are often directed or conducted by special guest musicians. In February, prodigious Spanish conductor, Eduardo Portal, leads the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Then in March, pianist Wolfgang Manz joins the Chamber Orchestra for a concert at Leeds Town Hall. Many of our teaching staff are renowned musicians in their own right. They perform recitals throughout the year. This season we’re proud to feature pianists Jakob Fichert and Nico de Villiers with cellist Alfia Nakipbekova and violinist Sebastian Mueller respectively.
