Leeds University Union invites you to a week of celebrations that will deliver the world to your doorstep. This year’s festival is set to be bigger and better than ever before, with a huge range of exciting activities in the Union, on campus and across the city. From film screenings to food kitchens, live performances to creative art sessions, there’s something for everyone in our spectacular week of events!

Join in with the Chinese New Year celebration for the ‘Year of the Snake’. Experience Chinese dancing, music, and calligraphy or try your hand at some traditional Chinese crafts. 11am to 5pm, Town Hall, Leeds City Centre.

Whilst undertaking a highly publicised tour of Europe, a cloistered and naive princess decides to rebel against her restrictive and regimented schedule. One night she escapes and stumbles upon an American journalist stationed in Rome. Craft Passion Arts What better way to show you care than with a handmade gift? We will teach you how to knit and crochet a little something for your Valentine (or yourself!). Two women grow up in an orphanage; Alina finds refuge at a convent in Romania and refuses to leave to join Voichita, living in Germany. Love, friendship, brokenness and betrayal underline the crux of this story. 6pm to 9pm, Business School Western LT, on campus. Hosted by the Romanian Society. ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ Film/LGBT History Month Convinced that Megan, a high school cheerleader is a lesbian; her friends and family send her to a therapy camp which is designed to ‘cure’ her. ‘Dredd 3D’ Film

The recent adaptation of the comic Judge Dredd. Dredd 3D is set in a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. ‘Sepet’ Film This film tells the tale of a love between a Chinese boy and a Malay girl. An intelligent, insightful and unashamedly emotive love story; showing the positive and frank portrayal of an interracial teen romance that rises above societal prejudices. 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Michael Sadler LT, on campus. ‘What is this Film called Love?’ Film This film is a passionate, poetic documentary about the nature of happiness. Filmed in Mexico over three days for just £10, it begins as a film about the Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein, and then, using his ideas, opens up to look at memory, landscape and the pleasures of walking. Every spring, China’s cities are plunged into chaos as 130 million migrant workers travel to their home villages for New Year’s. ‘El Greco’ Film El Greco is based on the true story of the great Greek Artist of the 16th Century. Troll Hunter Film This is a Norwegian dark fantasy film, made in the form of a found footage mockumentary. It follows a group of students studying a series of bear killings who discover something mysterious is going on. 8pm to 10pm, Common Room, LUU. Hosted by the Film Society.

Indonesian Fair Cultural Experience

Thursday 14th February Advancing World Peace Among Cultural Conflicts Discussion/Word Do you have an opinion on World Peace? Come and debate with others on the complexities of cultural conflicts. This event will be a simulation of a world-class summit, in which we will discuss and write a resolution at the end. All welcome. 6pm to 7.45pm, Parkinson SR B.08, on campus, must book at helpdesk.
