- Adding extra floors to zoning maximum; - Public kitchen on level 1 is too small; - Sleep area was not well organized, I believe upper floors can contain more units for people to move in; - Missing comfortable and attractive public amenity space which leads to (I believe was part of the reason) that a lot people choice to sleep on the street and only come in for meals; - Respecting people who wants to sleep on streets (Maybe they have pets, which is not allowed in the building) and offering showers and bathrooms on the street for these people; - Bringing home feeling to this building, from the shape of the building, bringing traditional pitch roof into new structure and create comfortable feeling for people who wants to move in; - Special zone for special group, many homesless came from LGBTQ backgrounds and end up homeless because of the community and family not accepting them and creating a safe space for these people are extremely important for their mental and physical health especially in a men shelter;

I have always had a special interest in solid waste, especially plastic, personally I always thought one day we should figure out a way to re-use the waste plastics either as buillding material or as material that is able to producing energy. From the research that I did I found 2 very imortant piece of imforamation:

Plus the grazing design was based on the energy anaylsis, just to make sure that places with less sunlight gets bigger glazing and smaller glazing design at uppper level with too much sunlights that the residents may not want, these analysis were done by DIVA/RHINO, and CONFAN; which was taught by another course that I took that quarter from Univerisity of Washington graduiate program.

Thus I am proposing have a trash burning center at level 1 for this project, to help this apartment project meet the living building pilot program and by doing this, this building easily met the energy requirements;

1. In Amsterdam, they have been burning trash to collect heat and electricity, and its been working well; 2. In Seattle area, all solid waste is now being transported by train down to Allington, Oregon for land fill, This will not only cost extra energy for transporting them to Oregon, but also, land fill resourse is getting very tight and Arlington, Oregon only have enough space for Seattle solid wastes until early 2021.

Project Narative: This project was a feasibility study that College of Built Environment decided to work on for the School of Fishery at University of Washington; I worked with a landscape architect (Adam Davis,then a graduate student at University of Washington graduate Landscape Architecture program) We started with zoning anaylsis, figured out the maximumn development oppotunity, shoreline setback at the water front, as well as the historical building requirements as one of the red brick building was defined as historical and we will have to preserve this building. We researched on the orginal design for this salmon homing pond which was abandoned for the past 40 years, toured the current salmon spawning center at Issaquah and didmore research about the physical requirements for salmon spawning, as they need cold and fresh water and the water need to came from the same sourse so that they can recognize the smell of the water and come back to the homing pond that they were born in; Due to the budget concern we worked closely with the staffs in School of Fishery and devided they project into 4 phases, referencing the current master developme3nt plan of Univeristy of Washington, we worked with the campus Architect and worked up our presentation as below; We were the client picked project in out studio;
