Herb Caen Column from Tuesday, 06 Dec 1994 MEANWHILE: If there is anything I admire, it's a good publicity stunt, and press agent Lee Houskeeper has engineered one of the best. He's the reason John Konstin, owner of John's Grill, and Mayor Jordan's press secretary Noah Griffin, are in New York, to bid at least $30,000 today on the original Maltese Falcon statuette -- well, one of two "originals" -- that appeared in the John Huston 1941 classic, "The Maltese Falcon," with Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade. For $30,000, which may or may not be enough to win "the black bird" at Christie's auction, Houskeeper has already scored about $1 million worth of pufflicity, plus $1.98 for this paragraph. . .. After developing a friendship with Herb Caen, Houskeeper named his new business San Francisco Stories after Caen barked "What's the Story Lee . . .If you don't have a story buy an ad . . .” Houskeeper’s long time clients include: John's Grill, Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy Pete McCloskey, Lefty
