With social media as a clear evolving influence on women in this segment at this time, here are indications from the fashion and trend influencers, who are voices for women of different age groups and body types. Icons in their own right, they give us a good insight into what’s coming next or what women are looking for. Relaxed silhouettes (like hoppers) with pieces that can be over-layed, removed, paired with other ensembles are going to be big!

The story calls for comfort and expression, leading to prints that show character. Small patches of print, embroidery that show character, paired with plains is what’s seen to be trending. The combinations however will be monochrome pairings instead of contrasts. The fabric needs to be one that can be worn during summers, and even after summer.s. Cottons are always great for the Indian weather. Pure cottons, or mixed with viscose, khadi or silk will be appreciated.

With the ‘Rurban’ culture coming in, our populace is slowly becoming cosmopolitan, however, there is a lot of grounding in the Indian traditional system, that stays with the urban woman of the day. That’s what she wants in her clothing, a modern look with traditional grounding. The Indian woman of today is aware, secure and bold. The story calls for those values and character.

Indications | Silhouettes

The story can be interpreted for silhouettes in primarily two ways. 1. Traditional silhouettes, whether it is the Bengali drapes or the Gujarati ones in sarees, or simple salwaar kameez and patiala suits - paired with modern prints of grit. 2. Modern silhouettes like relaxed onesies with the bottom part shaped like a dhoti, or straight pants or even boxier, free flowing forms.

Indications | Colours

The gende ka phool is an epitomy of traditional practices, used accross many indian linguistic traditions. The shades of ocre, sandy yellows and dusky green are colours that will define this story. Indications | Prints & Fabrics

Taking inspiration from authentic and renditioned henna / mehendi designs that Indian women cherish occassionally, whether it is for a wedding or just a fun bright day - the direction for print could be one of these interesting patterns. Fabrics for summers need to be allow for a little air, yet for this story should also have a sophisticated, premium outlook. A cotton-silk mix can be an interesting mix.

The workplace has become an integral part of the everyday of an Indian woman between the age of 25 to 60. And attire suiting to the workplace calls for three great attributes - authentic, crisp and comfortable. It’s usually a hectic day, so the outfit should allow for swiftness, commute and work.
