Approach / The challenge was to create a rich dramatic exp er ien ce that matches the bold imagery of David Cronenberg’s films. The following films inspired my approach: Shivers, Rabid, Scanners, Videodrome and The Fly. I am intrigued by the early sci-fi horror films of David Cronenberg. The way he conveys horror in his films are raw and impactful. For the overall visuals, I develo ped a ser ies of disturbing black and white photos that explore David Cronenberg’s twisted perspective on the evolution of human experiments. I a m i n t r i g u e d by t h e s c i - f i h o r ro r f i l m s t h a t D a v i d C ro n e n b e r g p ro d u c e d i n t h e e a r l y s t a g e o f h i s f i l m making career. The way he conveys tangible h o r ro r a n d g ro t e s q u e p h e n o m e n a a re d i re c t a n d i m p a c t f u l . D u e t o h i s ke e n i n t e re s t i n s c i e n c e , e s p e c i a l l y l e p i d o p t e ro l o g y a n d b o t a n y, a n o r g a n i c and disturbing visual sensation is depicted vividly in his films. In diving into his films, I noticed that t h e m a i n c h a ra c t e r s a l l l a c ke d m o d e ra t i o n i n w h a t t h ey w e re p u r s u i n g , s o t ra g e d y w a s i n e s c a p a b l e .
