Fred Ode, CEO/Chairman, Foundation Software

Hey Fred Last year, we implemented the “contractors” version of a popular small business accounting system, but it’s been very disappointing - especially now that busy season is in full swing. Payroll doesn’t support the ability to withhold from different locations, and our payroll person is working extra hard just to get things done on time. In addition, the job costing is basic. We’d like the ability to track performance by project

manager and profitability by type of job. At the moment, it takes a series of spreadsheet reports and additional data entry to see detailed cost and billing information on jobs. This software just doesn’t work the way our business operates. However, I hate the thought of looking again. What do you suggest? - Jaime Hey Jaime I know that researching new software and imple-

Southeastern Equipment Company now distributes Hyundai Complete line of construction equipment available at two Indiana locations CAMBRIDGE, OH — Southeastern Equipment Company is pleased to announce that the company now offers Hyundai Construction Equipment at its locations in Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis, IN. The equipment line includes mini excavators, crawler excavators, wheeled excavators and wheel loaders. Parts and service for all models are also available, and a diverse selection of equipment is on hand to rent. “We are proud to be a distributor of Hyundai Construction Equipment,” says Charlie Patterson, president of Southeastern Equipment

Company. “The company has received several industrial design awards for its equipment. They join our lineup of top quality brands.” The Hyundai Construction Equipment line includes 18 excavator models, with operating weights ranging from 3,640 to 18,410-pounds for their mini excavators and from 24,690 to 181,460-pounds for their full size crawler excavators. In addition, 10 wheeled excavators are available with operating weights of 12,240 to 45,200-pounds. Hyundai also offers six wheel loader models with operating weights ranging from 21,400 to 66,100-pounds, and a bucket capacity range of 2.0 to 6.5-yards.

necessary to implement a new system. The second option is to look for a new system. I know that it seems like a big undertaking, especially during busy season, but, in the long run, a system that meets your construction specific needs may help you to grow your company. Construction specific accounting software works the way that construction works. These programs were built to do job costing, and can give you the reports that you need to see where your company stands on each job, and overall. In addition, they can handle the complexities of construction payroll, like calculating multiple states and localities. I’m sure that’s something your payroll person can appreciate! If you decide to look for

a new system, take what you’ve learned from your bad experience with your current software and make a list of all the requirements of your future software. Then, look at a variety of construction specific accounting packages before narrowing them down to the one that will benefit your company the most. Remember, the time you spend now to find the best fit software for your company will undoubtedly save you plenty of time and money down the road. The third option would be to locate third party services that may be able to help with items like payroll processing, reporting, etc. Many of these programs will integrate with your accounting software. For instance, some construc-

tion specific payroll services will update the general ledger and job costing in your off the shelf accounting program to keep all your numbers correct and up to date. Whatever you decide, keep your company’s best interest in mind. Best wishes for your success! - Fred Call for Questions: Thank you for reading “Hey Fred!” CEO/Chairman of Foundation Software, Fred Ode is here to answer any question you might have. Hey Fred

menting a new accounting program is a long process, and unfortunately, it looks like the contractor’s version of your off the shelf package just isn’t hitting the mark for your company. While it may be hard to see right now, there is a bright side right now. You now have a much better idea of what features and detailed information your company needs from your next accounting software package. So, you have a few of options. Option number one is to remain status quo and continue to use your off the shelf package, with all its shortcomings, for as long as you can stand it. I don’t necessarily recommend this option, but I do understand that some contractors just may not be ready to commit the time, money and resources

People at Play: The Heavy Equipment Experience Allows Folks to “Get Dirty” Operating Construction Excavators, Loaders & Bulldozers in a “Construction Themed” Environment Ordinary people can now operate huge construction excavators, bulldozers and loaders for fun on Florida’s Gulf Coast at People at Play: The Heavy Equipment Experience. The name is a tongue in cheek reference to ‘Men at Work’ and the company was launched by construction industry veterans as a spin off business to generate additional revenue in Florida’s down economy. BRADENTON, FL — Many people are fascinated when driving by a construction site... they see a giant excavator digging in the dirt, a powerful bulldozer grading the land and wonder, “What is it like to operate one of those machines?” Now, a new Florida based company offers the opportunity to experience the “thrill” of operating heavy construction equipment firsthand; People at Play: The Heavy Equipment Experience is a new and exciting recreational offering. “We’re truly providing the ultimate outdoor “hands-on” construction experience in a friendly themed environment, right down to the port-a-potties! This is not your average attraction, it’s a one of a kind adventure where you can “play” on real excavators, bulldozers and loaders,” said Alisa S. Bennett, who is People at Play’s president and self-appointed Hard Hat Diva. People at Play is the brainchild of Jason and Alisa Bennett, owners of a site

development construction company (Bennett Contracting, Inc.) based in Bradenton, FL. The Bennetts saw an opportunity to create revenue with a different kind of business in response to the weakened economy and declining construction starts. This “spin off” business is the first of its kind in Florida and it capitalizes on Alisa’s background and experience in hospitality marketing, as well as Jason’s construction background. “We all remember digging and moving the sand in our sandboxes. Before now, unless you were in the construction industry, you wouldn’t have the chance to harness the amazing power and strength of an excavator that weighs 10 times as much as an average car. Our experienced trainers ensure it’s a fun and thrilling adventure for anyone age 18 or over,” said Alisa S. Bennett, president. The entire experience is themed like a day on a construction site, where every participant has to “clock-in,” wear a hard hat and a visibility vest. All participants are required to successfully complete a safety and equipment training orientation (in the job site trailer) prior to their time operating CAT excavators, skid steer loaders and bulldozers. Individuals can “join the crew” at People at Play at one of different depending on how much time they want to spend operating the heavy equipment.

Packages begin at $155 per person (plus tax) for a one hour experience on a skid steer loader. Gift certificates are available for select programs. Participants must be 18 and over. Individuals must pre-register and book their packages based on scheduled “work” days. For reservations and information call 941-756-0886. In addition to the individual programs, People at Play can customize events and team building programs for corporate and social groups for up to 12 people. Packaging for groups include the mandatory orientation, personalized logo hard hats, machine operation and

team relay events and box lunches. “There are unlimited possibilities in working with corporate groups,” said Bennett. Forget about golf outings or cooking classes this will be the new thing corporate groups will dig — literally,” laughed Bennett. People at Play: The Heavy Equipment Experience is a new recreational offering where individuals with no experience can operate real construction equipment in a fun “construction themed” environment. by Jon M. Casey GVM Snow Equipment, a division of GVM Incorporated, recently exhibited their new EZ Rider Snow and Ice Removal System, at the PA One Call Safety Day in York, PA. The EZ Rider is a compact, easy to use piece of equipment designed to apply salt and ice control products, to sidewalks and parking areas, before or after a snow

event. Designed to apply material in three different ways, the EZ Rider gives maintenance and snow removal professionals an added weapon in their wintertime arsenal. According to Thomas Bair, vice president of GVM Snow Equipment, the EZ Rider was designed for day or nighttime operation. A 13 hp Honda engine with electric start powers this four wheeled,

The 15th Annual Snow & Ice Symposium Trade Show made a perfect venue for the GVM EZ Rider. lighted unit. Its variable speed, hydrostatic drive train, gives the operator the speed control that they need for safe and reliable operation. More importantly, the hydraulic powered salt spinner and liquid anti-icing spray system, allows the operator to increase or decrease the application speeds to meet the needs of the job at hand. The 3 GPM pump provides plenty of capacity to apply the 30 gallons of liquid that is stored in the system’s two, 15 gallon, polyethylene tanks. Bair said that the undercarriage, frame and salt hopper, are all crafted

from stainless steel. This will give the end user many years of service without the corrosiveness of salt rusting the hopper. Before the snow begins to fall, or once it has been cleared, the operator can spread 250-pounds of salt and 30 gallons of anti-icing liquid in a matter of minutes. The 13-foot turning radius makes the EZ Rider a handy tool for those tight spots that often require the most attention. “The EZ Rider is small enough to fit through a 36-inch gate,” said Bair.

EZ Rider from 5 “With its center pivot, this machine is easy to turn and to maneuver into tight spaces. Not only that, it’s fun to drive!” Because the EZ Rider is outfitted with rugged, deep tread tires, when the unit is fully loaded, its 950 -pound weight makes it a sure footed tool for the snow removal crew. Another nice feature is that once the snow season has passed, the EZ Rider can be cleaned up and out-

From the operator's perspective, the EZ Rider looks to be as easy to use as a deluxe self-powered scooter.

SOUTH HAVEN, MN — Combining superior quality rigid frame engineering with the proven benefits of tension fabric, Legacy Building Solutions introduces the industry’s first line of fabric buildings to incorporate structural steel beams instead of open web trusses. This new engineering concept provides

a cost effective, long lasting solution for salt and sand storage facilities. Legacy buildings utilize a durable rigid frame in place of the hollow tube, open web truss framing traditionally used for fabric buildings. Unlike hollow tube steel, Legacy’s solid structural steel beams are not vulnerable to un-

seen corrosion originating inside a tube. Additionally, the hot dip galvanized framework provides years of economical, low maintenance use, even in the most challenging corrosive conditions. The strength of the structural steel frame provides several engineering advantages, most notably the flexibility to customize buildings beyond the confines of standard sizes to the exact width, length and height required. The clear span design offers ample clearance, even at the sidewall, to enable safe equipment operation anywhere in the building. Tall peaks allow for optimal pile heights and provide enough space for tipping trucks to maneuver inside, while heavy duty beams support conveyors for efficient transition of materials. Legacy buildings feature high quality polyethylene fabric roofs that eliminate the corrosion concerns associated with metal-constructed facilities. A wide variety of PVC fabrics are also available. The durable fabric allows natural light to permeate the structure, while insulation can be added to meet energy codes when required. Installation is faster than with conventional buildings, and the design can be adjusted for stationary or portable applications. Sidewalls can be customized and built with any desired material — including steel, paneling or siding — and then easily lined with fabric

for additional corrosion protection. Legacy steel components and fabric covers are backed by a 15 year warranty. Legacy offers assistance from concept to completion, including renderings, foundation design, installation and project management. To date, Legacy’s in-house, professional installation crews have constructed more than 30million-square-feet of fabric buildings. Legacy Building Solutions specializes in the innovative design, engineering and construction of fabric-covered buildings for several different industries and applications. Green Sweep snow removal uses new technology Sno-Pusher

Steve Fuzinski shares secrets of success Green Sweep’s staff of branch managers and meteorologist track every storm and are ready to send out the crew of the night. SWANTON, OHIO — Eat it, sleep it, breathe it. It’s immersed in it. One might even say, “Snow is in his a philosophy common to the hardest working individ- blood.” With that experience, drive and love of the uals. Dedicated snow and ice industry contractors business, he formed his own snow and ice contractare no exception. When a blizzard hits, even at unpre- ing company: Green Sweep. Green Sweep’s “Snow Only” policy has the compadictable hours like those that arrive at 2 a.m., despite the pressures of liability and safety concerns, snow ny focusing exclusively on winter services. But like and ice contractors must have a true passion for the many in the snow and ice removal world, Fuzinski industry. As a third generation snow removal has roots in the green industry as well. He got his contractor, Steve Fuzinski, owner of Green Sweep has first taste of the business mowing lawns as a teenagthat kind of passion. er. However, the “snow bug” bit him at a young age, Both Steve’s father and grandfather spent their and that was where he chose to focus all his time and lives in the snow removal business, so Steve grew up energy.

Green Sweep's staff of branch managers and meteorologist track every storm and are ready to send out the crew as soon as the flakes begin to fly — even in the middle of the night.

as soon as the flakes begin to fly – even in the middle Since launching the business in 1985, Green Sweep has steadily grown, and today employs more than 300 full time people. These include plowing specialists, office staff, mechanics, branch managers and even a meteorologist. Those employees, according to Fuzinski, are one of the major secrets to the company’s success. His other secret? Superior equipment, particularly his ever growing fleet of Arctic Snow and Ice Control’s Sectional Sno-Pushers. “We currently operate a total of 25 Sectional SnoPushers, ranging from the LD models on our smaller machines like skid steers, to the larger HD models on our loaders,” he said. “They’ve played a big part in improving our productivity, lowering costs and just allowing us to offer better service to our clients.” Although in business for nearly three decades, it was only two winters ago that Green Sweep acquired Sectional Sno-Pushers. At that time, Fuzinski was on a mission to find a better snow pusher. He felt his existing box plows were coming up short in many areas. “Our existing box plows were good, no doubt about that, but I’m not one to settle for ‘good enough.’ I knew there were better pushers out there and I felt we were doing a disservice to ourselves and our clients if we didn’t attempt to find something better.” That ‘something better’ was the Sectional SnoPusher. “Being somewhat of a technology enthusiast, I try to stay up on the latest advancements in equipment and designs. So I knew about the pusher, and had heard good things from companies who were using it.” As the name implies, the Sectional Sno-Pusher is built in sections, with each individual moldboard no more than 32 inches wide. While he was intrigued by this design, he wasn’t yet convinced. Fuzinski wanted to first test the pusher to see if it met his standards — and he’s the first to admit his standards are high. So he contacted Arctic’s president, Randy Strait, who, according to Fuzinski, made him a deal to, “Try it out. Put it through the ringer.” “He was pretty confident,” Fuzinski said. So Fuzinski accepted the offer and put the Sectional Sno-Pusher to the true test — a head to head competition with Green Sweep’s current box plow. The crew

took the two pushers to one of its largest customer’s facilities, which consisted of two nearly identical lots. “We didn’t mess around, we took it to our toughest lot,” he said. “This particular lot, my guys have nicknamed Pothole Heaven. It’s basically a nightmare to plow.” Fuzinski based the contest on three major criteria: First, the effectiveness and speed of snow removal. Second, how much salt would be required. Third, could the pusher simply stand up to this harsh environment? Not only did the Sectional pusher come out of Pothole Heaven with no damage, according to Fuzinski, “It cleared better and finished the job 15 percent faster than the other box plow. It got into those potholes and scraped away the snow and ice.” Additionally, the crew put down one third less salt with the Sectional Sno-Pusher compared to areas plowed by its competitor. “Thirty three percent less salt, that’s huge,” Fuzinski said. “And we have continued to track our salt usage. To date, lots plowed with the Sectional pushers require on average 33 percent less salt, so that number has stayed true.” Fuzinski was sold. After his “plow challenge,” Fuzinski quickly purchased five more Sectional pushers. According to him, it was more than just a move to improve efficiency and cut down on salt usage — it was necessary to keep his staff happy. “My guys watched the Sectional pusher in action that first time and they all told me they wanted one,” he laughed. “I think they could see how it was going to make their job easier and get them home in time for supper.” His staff has reported nothing but positive remarks about the Sectional pusher. Each individual moldboard section has its own trip edge, so rather than the entire pusher tripping over obstacles, like manhole covers, and leaving behind a huge pile of snow to re-plow, just one section trips while the rest of the pusher stays on the ground. According to his staff, that one feature has played a major role in pushing efficiency, with less snow and ice to go back and re-plow. The pusher also provides a much valued safety factor, crucial because, “No matter how long you’ve been in the business and how carefully you mark off obstacles before you begin a job, eventually you’re going to hit something. And one of those times, there will be a serious impact,” Fuzinski explained. Sectional Sno-Pushers include a unique Slip-Hitch design with mechanical, not fixed, side panels. The combination of the two allows the pusher to move independently from the machine and, upon impact, lift up and over large obstacles like medians and curbs — saves the driver from absorbing harsh impact. Beyond the plowing crew, Green Sweep’s mechanics have taken notice of the Sectional pushers too, since all of the Sno-pushers have all made it through their first season or two with no damage or repairs needed. But Fuzinski and his mechanics have observed the unit and noted how its design offers fast and inexpensive maintenance. “If something is damaged, because the pusher is built in sections, just the damaged section needs to be replaced, not the whole unit,” he said. For example, if a steel cutting edge breaks, just that section of edge needs to be replaced, which, according to Fuzinski is, “Much more cost effective than replacing an entire cutting edge on, say, a ten foot pusher with a single moldboard design.” It’s easy to see why the Sectional Sno-Pushers have been a welcome addition to the growing Green Sweep family, and become a major factor in the company’s overall growth plan. Green Sweep is “pushing” on and continuing to serve clients in the way it knows best — with old fashioned hard work, dedication and commitment and eating, sleeping and breathing snow. 15th Annual Snow & Ice Symposium prepares contractors for winter’ s worst by Jon M. Casey

Buffalo, New York’s mid-June near record high summer temperatures did not deter the more than 1200 registered attendees of the 15th Annual Snow & Ice Symposium hosted by the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) June 20-23. There, these snow management professionals came to shop for the latest in snow and ice removal technology and to learn more about how to perfect their snow and ice removal businesses. With more than 100 exhibitors displaying the latest in snow and ice removal technologies at the two day trade show and with 21 learning sessions devoted to virtually every aspect of a snow and ice manager’s ongoing needs, there was plenty to experience during the four day event. The 15th Annual Snow & Ice Symposium started out with a welcoming reception late Wednesday and by Saturday’s closing event featuring a trip to Niagara Falls State Park and dinner at the Top of the Falls Restaurant, it is safe to say that there was something for everyone who attended this year. From the humorous, thought provoking Keynote Session presented by Cindy Maher and Carol Grannis, founders of Leading Edge Coaching and Development, to operational seminars like that of Paul Vanderzon, owner of the snow and ice management firm, Amenagements Paysagers Vanderzon, Inc. of Quebec, Canada, snow and ice removal contractors had ample opportunity to learn and to prepare for the 2012-2013 snow removal season. Despite a limited number of snow and ice events in the U.S. during the 2011-2012 winter season, there was still plenty to discuss as contractors prepare for the future. More importantly, the latest in snow and ice removal technology and featuring supporting companies like those who offer weather advisory information and computer assisted scheduling programs, made this year’s trade show a highlight for everyone. Contractors who make the SIMA Snow and Ice Symposium an annual event on their calendars can prepare for next year’s 16th Annual Snow and Ice Symposium being held in Minneapolis, MN on June 19-22, 2013. For more information, visit the SIMA website at www.sima.org.

Congress Street Bridge over Hudson River under way New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald announced that construction has begun on a $19.9 million contract to replace the bridge decks on 11 structures in the Capital District through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY Works program. Commissioner McDonald was joined by elected officials at a press conference in Troy to highlight work on the Congress Street Bridge between Troy, Rensselaer County, and Watervliet, Albany County. “Governor Cuomo’s NY

Works program speeds up our bridge and highway reconstruction efforts and puts people back to work,” Commissioner McDonald said “The traveling public will see nearly twice as much highway work than just last year. We ask motorists to be patient and drive carefully through construction zones.” With the announcement, construction has begun on another NY Works bridge improvement project only three months after Governor Cuomo signed the 20122013 Budget allowing funding for these projects to move forward. NY Works focuses on improving the condition

of bridges from fair to good to extend their service life. This rehabilitation work will better preserve the state’s infrastructure and guard against the need for more costly, in-depth construction. Bundling project sites within close geographic locations into a single contract enables DOT to lower expenses and obtain lower bids for construction. As part of the NY Works contract, construction contractor Bette & Cring of Latham, Albany County, has begun work to replace the deck on the Congress Street Bridge, carrying Route 2 over Interstate 787 and the Hudson River between

Watervliet and Troy. Congressman Paul Tonko said, “By rebuilding our roads and bridges, we not only improve our infrastructure and help our business community move goods and products, but we also create jobs. Seeing construction signs or cones on the road is a reminder that New Yorkers are getting back to work, specifically in the construction industry, a sector that was hit so hard during the Great Recession. I was proud to support the reauthorization of the Highway Trust Fund just last week, and will continue to fight for investments

AGC NYS scholarship program is largest state industry effort of its kind in the country ALBANY, NY — The Associated General Contractors of New York State (AGC NYS) on July 12 announced that its Scholarship Committee has awarded $51,000 to 20 New York State college

students whose majors focuses on the construction industry and diesel technology fields. “On behalf of AGC NYS, I am pleased to announce this year’s scholarship award winners,” said Mike Elmendorf, president and CEO of AGC NYS. “We are pleased to an-

nounce that we have awarded $6,250 more than last year and the money will go to assist those students in completing their degree in the fields of construction and diesel technology. They are the future of our industry. Funds for the scholarship are raised at the annual AGC NYS Anthony S.

Bridge from 13 that make the Capital Region’s infrastructure a better place to live, work and raise a family.” Senator Neil Breslin

said, “I applaud Governor Cuomo and Commissioner McDonald for their efforts to improve the infrastructure throughout the

Capital District. A strong infrastructure is not only important to our local economy, it is critical for the safety and well being

of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike.” Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia said, “Creating job opportunities while im-

plementing much-needed improvements to the state’s aging infrastructure is the win win element of Governor Cuomo’s NY Woks program. This multi-million dollar investment into the Congress Street Bridge is critical to the future condition and stability of a key corridor into Troy and Watervliet.” Watervliet Mayor Mike Manning said, “New York State has shown commitment and a great effort towards the preservation of local infrastructure here in Watervliet and throughout the Capital Region. I would like to thank community members for their patience and encourage everyone to drive safely during construction.” During construction on the Congress Street Bridge, one lane in each direction will be closed to traffic. The Left Turn/ Through traffic lane at the intersection of Route 2 and 19th Street in Watervliet will be reconfigured to a left turn only lane during construction. One sidewalk will remain open for the duration of the project. Work on the portion of bridge over I-787 will take place this year. Work on the portion of bridge over the Hudson River will take place next year. The project will include some steel and concrete repairs. In addition to the Congress Street Bridge, the following bridge work will be completed this year as part of the contract: • Deck replacement work has begun on the bridge carrying Washington Avenue over I-90 in Rensselaer, Rensselaer County. Lanes will be closed, with alternating one way traffic controlled by flaggers. Work is expected to be completed this year. • Work has begun to replace the decks on the bridges carrying Inter-

state 90 eastbound and westbound over Krafts Road in Schodack, Rensselaer County. Lane closures are in effect in each direction and construction is expected to be completed this year. • Work will begin later this summer to replace the decks on the bridges carrying Route 22 over East Creek in Stephentown and Route 22 over Dill Brook in Petersburgh, both in Rensselaer County. As part of the contract, decks will be replaced next year on the following bridges: • Route 23 over Sutton Hollow Creek in Ashland, Greene County • Route 162 over railroad tracks in Root, Montgomery County • Route 20 over Fly Creek in Esperance, Schoharie County • Route 20 over Wyomanock Creek in New Lebanon, Columbia County • Route 23B over Claverack Creek in Claverack, Columbia County Motorists may encounter flaggers directing traffic and should expect travel delays. It is imperative that motorists remember this season to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter. 25,000 Kobelco excavator rolls off assembly line in Calhoun CALHOUN, GA — Highlighting the continued demand for fuel efficient, high performance excavators, Kobelco Construction Machinery America announced the production of its 25,000 American made excavator at the company’s manufacturing facility in Calhoun. During a ceremony to mark the special occasion, Kobelco executives recognized staff and management who helped achieve the significant manufacturing milestone and presented the 25,000 unit to local dignitaries — including representatives from Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal’s office of Economic Development, representatives from the offices of Georgia’s U.S. senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, Calhoun Mayor Jimmy Palmer, and special guests and more than 200 plant employees. “This momentous occasion reflects the continuing demand for Kobelco excavators and further emphasizes the long term success of our machines and our tradition as a technology leader,” said Jim Hasler, vice president, CNH Construction, North America. “We could not have reached this important milestone without the skills, support and dedication of the employees at this facility.” Located an hour north of Atlanta, the 280,000square-foot plant in Calhoun produces Kobelco excavators in six model classes — ranging from

16 to 48 metric tons — for customers in the United States, Canada and Latin America. The plant is on track to produce more than 1,100 Kobelco excavators in 2012. “At a time when some companies have moved production offshore, we are proud to celebrate production of the 25,000 Kobelco excavator, made right here in America,” Hasler said. “For nearly 30 years, Kobelco has been manufacturing high performance excavators in the United States, and we look forward to building our next 25,000 excavators in Calhoun.” The 25,000 unit, a Kobelco SK350 Mark 9 Series full sized excavator, will be delivered to CLM Equipment Co. Inc., a Kobelco dealer based in Louisiana, with locations across the Gulf region. “The SK350 Mark 9 is one of the most productive machines in its size class,” said Reece Norwood, Kobelco platform manager. “Built for heavy applications, the 25,000 Kobelco excavator will be able to tackle any road and bridge, sewer and underground utilities or mainline pipeline construction job out there.” Featuring industry leading breakout force and lifting capabilities, this fast, powerful and versatile excavator can dig the trench, crane the pipe and finish with impressive precision. “The SK350 Mark 9 excavator sets the industry standard in terms of controllability, especially

in multifunction applications,” Norwood said. “Operators will appreciate the impressive control and smoothness, and the added confidence will make them even more productive. The ease of operation allows even a novice excavator operator to be pro-

ductive on the job.” The excavator features an upgrade to Kobelco’s legendary intelligent hydraulics, as well as a new Economy power mode that takes Kobelco’s patented ITCS to a new level, maintaining productivity while increasing fuel efficiency by an average of 10 percent over previous models. The SK350 Mark 9 also features the industry’s first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emission solution for excavators, delivering more engine power and fuel efficiency. By choosing SCR technology for meeting Tier 4 Interim emissions regulations, Kobelco provides leadership in engine performance, productivity and fuel efficiency. SCR is an

after treatment solution that allows the excavator’s engine to do what it does best — generate power. The high efficiency in the combustion process significantly reduces fuel consumption. Delivering 269 horsepower, the SK350 Mark 9 has an operating weight of 80,909-pounds and a dig depth of 24-feet, 10-inches. World class engineering and state of the art technological innovations are built into every Kobelco excavator. Kobelco’s history has included a number of important excavator “firsts”: • Swing priority; • Power Boost with “no time limit;” • Heavy Lift with “no time limit;”
