The IROCK TS-512 is a 100 hp tracked screener with a 9.2-cubic-foot feeder capacity. As the nation’s infrastructure becomes increasingly in need of repair or total replacement in many places, a sustainable supply of quality aggregates for highway construction becomes more important. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the demand for all types of aggregates in 2007 and 2008 was approximately 2.5 to 3 billion tons per year. More importantly, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) estimates the annual need for pavement aggregates at approximately 700 million tons. Bill Langer, a USGS aggregates research geologist, notes that in order to meet the current and
future infrastructure needs over the next five years, a 70 percent increase in annual aggregate production may be required. Therefore, it is with this increasing need that recycled concrete becomes an important resource. Recycled products can replace virgin material. CalCrush of Ripon, CA recognized this need more than a decade ago. It was April 12, 2000 when they first began recycling concrete paving materials. According to Charlie Evans, primary owner of CalCrush, the company recycles an array of raw products ranging from concrete, asphalt and brick, to
CalCrush owners Charlie and Cheryl Evans stand outside of their Ripon, CA headquarters. block and tile, all originating from sources throughout California and northern Nevada. He said that these recycled materials ultimately become road base, rip rap, manufactured sand and other aggregates designed for asphalt and concrete. Evans said that CalCrush chose the IROCK TS-512 screen plant because it fits well with many different types of rock crushers. When outfitted with the track propulsion system, the TS-512 is able to get into small and tight jobsites. With this kind of flexibility and portability, the crews can process material where it is stockpiled. This saves customers the cost of hauling raw materials from the stockpile to the crusher. Since buying the first one from Maxim Equipment of Stockton, CA, CalCrush purchased a second TS512. “We acquired one in 2010 and the second in 2011,” he said. “One of our TS-512 is currently working on-site at the Edwards Air Force Base,” Evans said. “It’s screening behind a tracked 3055 jaw crusher. We are making three different concrete products with it, a 4x2inch, a 2x1-inch and a 1-inch minus. Our other TS512 is on location screening material behind a tracked 4250 horizontal shaft impactor. That one is making 3/4-inch minus aggregate base.” Evans added that they have also been impressed with the TS-512’s production rate. “We can get 300 plus tons per hour past the 5x12-foot screen box,” he said. “That is a tall order for a 5x12-foot box to handle, but the IROCK is up to the challenge.” “One of the unit’s greatest assets is its simplicity. It is not overly automated, so you don’t have to be a

IROCK Crusher offers high volume screeners as well by Gwenyth Laird Pernie According to Sean Donaghy, national sales manager for IROCK Crushers LLC of Oakwood Village, Ohio, the IROCK TS-512 tracked portable screening unit, is a relatively new product to the IROCK Crusher line. It has been manufactured since 2010. The tracked screener offers a wide range of applications such as sand, gravel, topsoil and aggregates. “Several big advantages of the screening plant is that they reduce energy costs because of their technologically advanced engine systems,” he said. IROCK Crushers LLC is located in Oakwood Village, Ohio. It started doing business in 1991 under the ownership of Ken Taylor. IROCK supplies products to the United States and Canada providing a full line of portable crushing and screening plants. KEWANEE, IL — Designed for more efficient operation, BOMAG’s new BW90AD-5 tandem vibratory roller features intuitive controls and optimum all around visibility. Highly maneuverable and fuel efficient, the roller is an ideal solution for a wide variety of small and medium asphalt compaction projects. The newly developed driver’s platform is highlighted by a multifunctional travel lever and the Smart Drive steering wheel, which has a smaller diameter that provides comfortable space for the operator, as well as a clear view of all controls. The dashboard contains modern circular instrumentation with warning signals, hour meter and fuel level indicator. An adjustable operator seat also provides added comfort and an excellent view of the drums. The BW90AD-5 is powered by a 20.2 hp Kubota diesel engine that features ECOMODE, a system that automatically idles the engine to conserve fuel during inactivity. Offering a working width of 35.4-inches, the roller delivers 3,822-pounds of centrifugal force at a frequency of 4,200 vpm. Additionally, the roller is equipped with BOMAG’s Intelligent Vibration Control to achieve consistent compaction quality. Built with travel motors contained within the vibratory drums, the unit’s compact design is well suited for operation in tight spaces, thereby eliminating the need for additional compaction with vibratory plates near obstructions. The BW90D-5
includes a 26.4 gallon water tank and pressurized spray system. The water spray nozzles are windscreen protected and triple filtered to ensure the drums receive sufficient water coverage even in strong winds. Maintenance is simple, thanks to a durable composite hood that allows easy access to the engine and a steering column that can be quickly opened to view central electronics. A bolt-on articulating and oscillating joint is maintenance free and each drum includes two flexible scrapers. Front, center and rear lift points help simplify transport and reduce unloading times. Standard safety features on the BW90AD-5 include a spring applied, hydraulically released parking brake, ROPS with retractable seat belt, back-up alarm, emergency stop button, and front and rear working lights for night operation. Additionally, the engine hood and instrument panel are lockable to protect against vandalism. For more information on the BW90AD-5 tandem roller or the complete BOMAG Light Equipment product line, including vibratory tampers, single direction and reversible vibratory plate compactors, trench compactors, single and tandem drum walk behind vibratory rollers, and single and tandem drum ride-on vibratory rollers, contact BOMAG Americas, Inc., 2000 Kentville Rd., Kewanee, IL 61443. DSC and Supreme join forces: Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC DSC Dredge, LLC and Supreme Dredge & Processing, LLC formed a new company named Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. The company was formed as a Louisiana based corporation but major component manufacturing will still take place at the Stoneboro, PA manufacturing facility as well as existing DSC facilities. DSC and Supreme had been discussing the possibility of combining forces to complement each company’s product lines since early 2011. All that was needed was the catalyst to officially create SupremeDSC Dredge, LLC. That
catalyst was provided by the interest from a MidWest aggregate supplier (Company) that recently ordered a 16-yard clamshell dredge from Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. Key features for the dredge include; a 16-cubic-yard bucket with extra weight for better penetration, 200-foot dredging depth capability, gantry style hoist frame, 50 ton electric hoist and a multitude of processing equipment and conveying equipment. The company was using a cutter suction dredge that could not penetrate a layer of hard cobblestones and wanted
information on clamshell dredges. “After touring their site and watching their cutterhead dredge and processing plant in operation, we were confident that our clamshell would be able to penetrate their deposit and be able to retrieve much more of their valuable reserves,” commented Neil Hoobler, president of Supreme-DSC. The company purchased a small used clamshell dredge to test the capability of mining the deposit mechanically. They knew the dredge was not big enough to meet their production requirements, but wanted to prove that
it could effectively dig their deposit. The company was satisfied that a clamshell dredge would dig in the difficult deposit and was then ready to proceed with a larger machine. The company signed a letter of intent in October and completed their selections for the processing equipment in November resulting in the order for the new 16-yard clamshell dredge from Supreme-DSC. The dredge is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2012. “We are very excited with our alignment with Neil and David Hoobler,” commented Bob Wetta, operating manager of Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. “The Hoobler’s (Supreme) are known as a leader in the industry for custom clamshell dredges. DSC is known as a leader in the industry for custom hydraulic dredges. The joining of forces will allow for continued growth and allow for multiple manufacturing locations. DSC’s mis-
sion is to be the preferred high quality dredge manufacturer and we have now extended this into a new product line, mechanical dredges,” added Wetta. “DSC Dredge is a major player in the cutter suction dredge market. By combining our product line with theirs, we can offer customers the best possible solution for their dredging application. We also look forward to working with the sales team at DSC to increase our market share in the US and expanding into the International market as well,” stated Neil
Hoobler. DSC currently operates three manufacturing facilities; Poplarville, MS, Greenbush, MI and headquarters in Reserve, LA. DSC has sales and services into over 40 countries and strives to be the preferred high quality dredge manufacturer. Supreme is one of the leading clamshell dredge manufacturers in the United States. SupremeDSC Dredge, LLC will continue to offer the full Supreme product line including dredges, conveying systems, bins, hoppers, work boats, rock barges and buckets.
The Hoobler's (Supreme) are known as a leader in the industry for custom clamshell dredges. DSC is known as a leader in the industry for custom hydraulic dredges. The joining of forces will allow for continued growth and allow for multiple manufacturing locations.

Time is usually regarded as a negative in any business endeavor — the quicker, the better. After all, time is money (right?). Balancing the “time required for sustainable change” with a “schedule for change” is almost always an exercise in conflict. When the pressure is on to finish an initiative by a certain date, cool heads and a common sense approach must rule to create a positive outcome. Millions of dollars can easily be invested in process/systems design and implementation. If the appropriate behavioral changes do not materialize within the design/implemen-
tation window, the investment and expected financial benefits are both at risk because the behaviors, not the process changes, deliver the value in the end. More about time as an element of change When change initiatives are suggested, one of the first questions management asks is “How long will this take?” or “When will we see dollars flow to the bottom line?” Time should be viewed is a critical element in success — without it, no real change occurs. Time is required to design and implement process changes; even more important, it is part of the process when people let go of
old behaviors and adopt new ones. Achieving lasting behavior change requires time just like a seed requires time to sprout, grow roots and blossom. Each individual is different in this respect, so it should not be assumed that everyone will be in the same place after one week or one month has passed. How many times has management set a drop dead date for a change initiative, then redirected resources away from it when a breakthrough is just within reach? The following case study illustrates how management’s focus on a “sacred golive date” forfeited the benefits from a multi-

Change from 9 continued to arise during the development phase, eroding contingencies built into the schedule. Site management eventually asked the project team how they could shorten the remaining time frame and still meet the promised “go-live” date. At least three months prior to go-live, it was obvious that training required prior to the go-live date would not be completed. Site management had two choices: 1. Stay committed to the date and postpone training until after the “golive” date or 2. Move the date forward and conduct the required training prior to golive. Management decided to postpone training until after

go-live because they wanted to save face at corporate. Then the unexpected happened… when corporate heard that this location was going to meet their original go-live date, corporate moved this site’s training resources to other locations because they thought that this location was “done.” Employees at this site were left “high and dry” trying to do their work with little or no training. The old system had been “unplugged,” so they had no option to fall back on and were forced to struggle to accomplish tasks that used to be easy. As a result, promised savings and productivity gains

(part of the ROI for the project) were minimal or non-existent. BUT… the site management team could say they “met the date,” protecting their credibility with corporate (even though they lost a lot of credibility with their own workforce). Site management was perceived as effective leaders even though their decision greatly reduced the return on this project and harmed the culture at their site. Thought for the month: Shortening the time for a change initiative always comes with a cost. That cost must be honestly examined before canceling tasks that impact project success.

Their participation enhances the networking and education opportunities for both attendees and exhibitors. The 2012 AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo is co-located with World of Asphalt. The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), AGG1 show owner, is again holding its annual convention with the shows. World of Asphalt will be held March 13-15, 2012 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC. “We promote industry cooperation and co-locations to bring more value to the show as an industry gathering place. Participants can ‘take the pulse’ of the marketplace, sharing experiences with each other and checking out the newest products for future business efficiencies,” stated Show Director Melissa Magestro. Among the overseas organizations supporting the show are Venezuela’s CAVEDREPA, Mexico’s Asociacion Mexicana del Asfalto and the Mongolian Road Association. The U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) are assisting in development of the Asphalt Pavement Alliance’s (APA) Asphalt Pavement Conference being held at World of Asphalt. The Asphalt Pavement Alliance is a partnership of the Asphalt Institute, National Asphalt Pavement As-
Austria from 13 automated CNC production machinery, and a state of the art laboratory and testing facility. The new plant manufactures primarily drill rods for extension and tunneling drill rigs. Shank adapters, couplings and DTH bits are also manufactured in high volume. Production capacity is initially targeted at 15,000 units per month and can exceed 20,000 units as required. The building was designed with optimum manufacturing sequences in mind, so production is streamlined and efficient. Each production line begins at the delivery and prematerial warehouse, proceeds through its production sequence and ends at the dispatch warehouse, ready for shipment. With an eye to the
environment, this new plant conforms to the strictest European energy codes, and incorporates the latest energy saving systems. For example, a closed loop water recovery system utilizes the heated water generated by the production machinery to provide the heating and cooling function for the entire factory and offices. “This new European facility is centrally located with easy access to European markets, as well as emerging markets in Africa and Asia,” added Eghdami. “We look forward to serving the growing rock drilling industry in these areas.” Rockmore International is a global manufacturer of rock drilling tools, serving the mining, construction and water well sectors for more than 60 years.
sociation (NAPA - show co-owner) and state asphalt pavement associations. Active industry participation also helps ensure that the show’s People, Plants and Paving Training Program is targeted to meet industry professionals’ needs. The training program is sponsored by NAPA with the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA), Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association (ARRA), Association of Modified Asphalt Producers (AMAP), International Slurry Surfacing Association
(ISSA) and Rubber Pavements Association. World of Asphalt will feature exhibits of the latest technologies and product innovations on the show floor, complemented by industry focused education programs, geared to the needs of industry professionals in the asphalt, highway/street, pavement maintenance and traffic safety sectors. Asphalt Drum Mixers releases new single drum counteflow plant HUNTERTOWN, IN — Asphalt Drum Mixers, Inc. introduces its Excalibur Series asphalt plants with single drum counterflow technology. The new plants offer high efficiency and a compact design for contractors with low to medium production needs. The Excalibur Series asphalt plants produce 100 to 425 tons per hour at a very low cost per ton. They boast the longest aggregate drying and mixing times in the industry, and are capable of processing high percentages of RAP. Using counterflow technology, the Excalibur Series has separate drying and mixing zones to achieve the maximum level of heat transfer and fuel efficiency. Furthermore, this system virtually eliminates unsafe hydrocarbon emissions, which are a common problem with other drum mix plants. To make the plants even
more environmentally friendly, ADM designed the system to reintroduce residual gases back to the drum’s combustion zone. Also, the plants are available in portable or stationary versions. They meet all federal and state specifications and consistently produce quality asphalt to help protect operators against out of spec damages. Plant controls are sophisticated in their abilities, yet simple in operation. The Excalibur Series can be operated by just one plant operator and one loader operator. Additionally, the plants are built with durability and low maintenance in mind, so onsite staff is able to handle most breakdown issues. A wide range of components further customizes each plant for particular customer needs. Available individual components include cold feed bins, hot oil asphalt cement tanks (both hori-

The Road Connection press event at AGG-1 drew a considerable number of participants on Wednesday afternoon.
by Jon M. Casey Members of the media attended NSSGA’s press event at AGG-1, designed to call attention to the association’s The Road Connections initiative which highlights the need for a national, long term funding bill. Pam Whitted, senior vice president of Government Affairs for The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA); Joe
Vig, president of Kolberg-Pioneer Inc. (KPI), of Yankton, SD; Road Connection publicist, Andrew Gillman of NSSGA and Curt Peterka of KPI-JCI, addressed the NSSGA’s The Road Connection activities and objectives during the March, 14 presentation. First, Pam Whitted, updated the status of the Federal Highway Bill in Congress, and noted other upcoming NSSGA sponsored events, nationally. She told of how The Road Connection truck will be traveling around the nation to bring awareness of the need for a national transportation bill passage. “The reauthorization of a national surface transportation law has been our number one priority for the past two years,” she said. “We held the first Rally for Roads. The Road Connection is a way for people to see firsthand, the need for a transportation bill.” Next, Joe Vig, group vice president of the ASTEC Recon group of companies (which includes Kolberg-Pioneer
Inc. (KPI), of Yankton, SD; Johnson Crushers of Eugene, OR and Astec Mobile Screens of Sterling, IL, said his companies were happy to be the primary sponsor of this promotional activity. He talked about the goals of The Road Connection, and what it means for people everywhere to take part in this nine month, non-partisan, grassroots initiative. “This program is truly for America,” he said. “This pickup will continue across America whether the bill gets passed before fall 2012, or not. The Road Connection promotional program will conclude at the KPI-JCI annual meeting in South Dakota in the fall.” Having embarked upon a nine month, nationwide tour in mid2011, The Road Connection truck will be making stops in a number of cities including Washington, D.C., Nashville, TN, Savage, MN and Kalamazoo, MI. At each location, members of The Road Connection team will be ad-

Agg-1 from 19 vocating for better roads by educating people about the need for a long term highway bill. Immediately following the conclusion of the World of Asphalt/AGG1 trade show in Charlotte, NC, The Road Connection made its way to the nation’s capitol to participate in the second annual Rally for Roads event, held on March 20, 2012. At that event, workers from all facets of the road construction industry and its suppliers rallied together in Washington D.C. to try to impact federal transportation policies. From Washington, D.C., The Road Connection took its message to the C&D World Exhibition and Conference in Nashville, TN, held in the Nashville Convention Center from March 25-27. The Road Connection team then set course for Savage, Minnesota to participate in an event held by Road Machinery & Supplies Co., (RMS) on April 5. Headquartered near the Twin Cities, RMS has grown to become one of the largest dealers in the U.S., with 12 branch offices. From Minnesota, The Road Connection cam-
paign will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take part in the Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting and Showcase will be held on April 1718, at the Kalamazoo Radisson Hotel. Finally, Andrew Gillman, who drives the truck, shared his role in the process. In a recent white paper prepared by Gillman, he noted: “Adding to the obvious benefits of putting construction workers’ boots back on the ground, and improving our federal highway system, we will also see benefits of the reauthorization bill trickle back down into the U.S. economy. Manufacturers will benefit from a long term bill; more machinery will need to be manufactured to meet the demand of an influx of infrastructure dollars going to transportation projects, providing a much needed shot in the arm to an industry that has been forced to make cuts over the past few years. If properly invested in infrastructure, everyday commuters will see a positive effect on their wallets in terms of min-

imizing congestion around major U.S. cities. Conversely, if not invested properly, by the year 2040, motorists will be wasting $175 billion annually by simply waiting in traffic. In addition to boosting this economy, an increase in the quality of U.S. roadways translates into fewer traffic fatalities and vehicle maintenance and repair
costs. About 33,000 automobile fatalities occur on a yearly basis, and poor road conditions are a factor in one third of those 33,000 fatalities. As far as safety concerning this country’s bridges, the situation is just as grave. Dozens of bridges have collapsed in the past forty years, killing hundreds. Additionally, up to one fourth of the bridges throughout the
United States are rated as structurally deficient. There is still a lot of work to be done on Capitol Hill before we see a long term reauthorization bill signed into law, but lawmakers on all points of the political spectrum are beginning to understand that U.S. roads are not something that can be pushed to the back burner for much longer.
Roads and bridges in this country are in dire need of repair and unless Congress can agree, it would be a safe assumption that in this election year, U.S. lawmakers may see their careers crumble right along with the roads and bridges in their districts.” For more information on The Road Connection, visit www.theroadconnection.org.

Breakout groups like this one on asphalt paving, drew considerable numbers throughout the entire event. For the more than 6,100 registered attendees to the 2012 World of Asphalt and AGG-1 Aggregates Forum and Expo held at the Charlotte Convention Center March 13-15, the summer like weather made attending the event a delight, which was in stark contrast to the unfortunate blizzard like conditions that visitors experienced at AGG-1 two years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio. Just the same, a record number of exhibitors (408) welcomed the throng of industry professionals, on hand to attend the trade show and many of the 90 plus educational sessions conducted during the three day event. screens. As the eccentric shaft turns, the screen body is forced to follow the shaft movement. While it travels upward, the counterbalance weights move in the opposite direction and create an equal force to that generated by the body. As a result, the forces cancel each other out so the dynamically balanced system does not transmit any vibrations into the structure. This allows producers to place screens side by side if desired while minimizing the investments into heavy structures. The double eccentric shaft creates a constant positive stroke that can easily handle material volume spikes without losing momentum. This translates into pegging and blinding free aggregate operations as the consistent G-Force keeps the openings clear. Since 1997, more than 560 W.S. Tyler FClass four bearing double eccentric vibrating screens are built on
platforms that combine a machine width and a drive type, consisting of an eccentric shaft assembly with bearing sizes ranging from 120 to 160 mm. Within the platform, the producer chooses basic parameters, such as screen length and the quantity of decks the application requires. Within these parameters, the producer then chooses between multiple variables, such as deck setup, suspension systems, reinforcing plates, wear lining as well as stroke and speed combinations. W.S. Tyler’s global screening experts work closely with producers to design the ideal screens for each application. In addition to traditional screening, the FClass is often used before primary crushers to screen out fines and eliminate excess crusher wear. It precisely screens material from 6inches down to 20 mesh; is available in sizes from 6 x 12-feet up to 8 x 24feet with inclines from 10 to 25 degrees; offers up to three screen decks; and comes with a base frame that allows for simple installation into a producer’s existing structure.
W.S. Tyler’s F-Class also features a rugged huck bolted body design, which is free from welds; 90 degree top and 45 degree bottom Durabend side plates; patented angle box tensioning; single point grease lubrication and hands free tube housing for bearing work without come-alongs or drift pins. All W.S. Tyler screens undergo extensive testing and inspection, including vibration analysis, prior to shipping that assures proper workmanship, correct balance and smooth operation while adhering to acceptable noise levels. During commissioning on-site, W.S. Tyler tests the screen again to make sure it achieves optimal performance within the customer’s specific operation and performance targets. W.S. Tyler’s F-Class comes backed by a standard 18 month warranty from date of shipment.
This warranty can be increased with optional customer specific warranty upgrade packages. W.S. Tyler is a wholly owned subsidiary of the German based Haver Screening Group. With facilities in the U.S.A., Canada, Germany and Brazil, the Haver Screening Group is the only company in the world that provides premium screening solutions encompassing the complete screening circle of particle analysis, screening media, vibrating screens and process equipment and complete production analysis, service and parts support. New Stone Slinger keeps operators out of the truck and on the job! New remote operated Creep Drive allows operators to control the Stone Slinger and maneuver the truck from outside the cab. MISSISSAUGA, ON — W.K. Dahms Mfg. Ltd. has successfully launched a new generation of remote controls for Stone Slinger truck conveyors that can dramatically reduce the time to unload and place aggregate loads with precision. The new Stone Slinger™ Creep Drive system provides operators with a remote control feature that not only controls the speed and direction of the conveyor, but allows the operator to remotely maneuver the truck itself around the jobsite. The operator now has a single set of controls to run the conveyor and reposition the truck for ideal placement of the material, without returning to the truck. The truck and the Stone Slinger become a fully integrated material delivery system. Scott Nelson, manager of W.K. Dahms, reports that the first of the new Stone Slingers equipped with Creep Drive was delivered at the end of August to John Da Silva of Rock Concrete Forming Ltd. in Mississauga, Ontario. After putting the Stone Slinger through its paces for a full season, Da Silva says, “If I was buying another truck, I wouldn’t get anything else — no question!” According to Da Silva, his investment in the Creep Drive feature has paid off well. “On a typical weeping tile job, the driver has to go back and forth to move the truck four or five times. And, each time, when you get into the truck, you have to turn the PTO off, drive the truck, put the air brakes on again and restart the PTO. It’s the time saving that pays you back.” The right place to be By using the remote control to move the truck, the operator remains outside the cab to keep the material flowing
until the load is completely delivered. Da Silva says that getting out of the truck is the right place for operators to be. “You get out here and you can see everything. We are always working in very tight spaces. You can watch the wheels and the ground more
closely than if you’re steering from the cab. You won’t ever put the truck into a pothole or a ditch, so you never have to wait for another truck to come and pull you out!” The Stone Slinger Creep Drive adds a complete hydrostatic drive
system to the standard powertrain of the truck. A hydraulic driven gearbox is inserted into the driveline. A CAN Bus panel controls all hydraulic and operating functions and communicates with the remote, which the operator carries in a sling.
cuitry receives constant feedback on the actual wheel speed from the truck. If the truck’s on an incline, the hydraulics will brake its speed automatically. Several fail safes are built in as well. If the
Jobsite safety designed in Nelson explains that safety was a key factor in Dahms’ design of the system. “The maximum speed the truck can achieve under hydraulic power is 2.5 km/h — a comfortable walking speed. The control cir-

Stone Slinger Creep Drive helps operators to place aggregates more accurately in less time, with less effort and with less wasted material.
John Da Silva of Rock Concrete Forming has been running the first new Stone Slinger with remote-operated Creep Drive since the Spring of 2011.
John Da Silva and his crews are able to reposition the Stone Slinger truck while they control the conveyor system from anywhere on the jobsite.
The heart of the Creep Drive system is this CAN Bus panel which controls the hydraulic drive system and communicates with the operator's remote control console.
wheel speed exceeds 4 km/h, the CAN Bus will shut down and stop the truck completely.” Lower costs, better results Da Silva finds that the Creep Drive leads to better job quality, too, with less wasted material. Operators naturally tend to avoid extra walks back to the truck if they possibly can. By making it easy to move the truck into the best location, Creep Drive helps operators to distribute the material more precisely and consistently with no extra time or inconvenience. For a contractor like Da Silva, that translates
into lower costs for cleanup and for material. W.K. Dahms Mfg. Ltd. has been manufacturing the Stone Slinger truck conveyor system for more than 30 years and continues to set the standard for efficient delivery and placement of aggregate materials. The original Stone Slinger concept was an innovation of W. Keith Dahms, who first fitted a truck body with an outboard rear conveyor to replace the traditional labourious and costly wheel barrow method of distributing material on construction sites.
Stone Slinger today represents a diverse family of systems for precise, labour free placement of gravel and stone, sand, soil and mulch materials. For further information on Stone Slinger truck conveyor systems, contact Scott Nelson, manager, W.K. Dahms Mfg. Ltd., P.O. Box 520, 3074 Sawmill Rd., St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada, N0B 2N0. Call 519-664-3414, fax 519-664-2082 or visit www.stoneslinger.com. Stone Slinger™ is a Canadian and U.S. registered trademark of W.K. Dahms Mfg. Ltd.
