Loudoun County, meet your rising stars. In this special section, “40 Under 40,” Leesburg Today and Ashburn Today are proud to recognize and honor 40 up-and-coming business and community leaders. Since 2009, Leesburg Today and Loudoun Business, working with the Young Professionals initiative of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, have recognized the top “30 Under 30” in Loudoun County. We decided this year to expand the program to “40 Under 40” in an effort to recognize a wider cross-section of leaders from the community. The “40 Under 40” honorees were selected through a process that began in the spring with nominations – by superiors, co-workers, employees or friends. Nominees had to be under age 40 (as of the time of the nomination) and live or work in Loudoun County. Nominees then submitted additional information, including details about their professional accomplishments and community involvement. Based on that information, a committee consisting of representatives of the newspaper, the Young Professionals Group and the Chamber of Commerce selected the honorees who are profiled in this section. And thanks to Alimond Photography for the beautiful photographs of our honorees. The honorees represent a broad swath of the Loudoun community – from “mom-and-pop” businesses to large employers and from private companies to the public school system. Several are first-generation Americans, and one comes from a family that immigrated here in the 1700s. There’s a career firefighter, a former Washington Redskins cheerleader, an elementary school principal and a former defensive tackle for the University of Alabama. What is truly remarkable about all of them, regardless of background or profession, are their accomplishments and their commitment to making our community a better place in which to live and work. All 40 honorees and their guests were recognized at a special dinner Aug. 14 at River Creek Country Club. See next week’s editions of Leesburg Today and Ashburn Today for complete coverage of the event. Congratulations to all of our honorees!

Kevin Arbogast

Jamil M. Audi

Age: 27

Age: 33 Managing Member of Audi Contractors and Managing Member of A&A Interior Concepts

Operations Manager & Portfolio Manager Toth Financial Advisory Corp Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Obtaining my Series 65 and managing the retirements of 30 client families after just three years at Toth Financial Advisory Corp while also being a “go-to” Operations team member. Most significant charity work/community involvement: I have been a Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals committee member for nearly 2½ years, I was invited to join the American Red Cross National Capital Region Loudoun Leadership Council over a year ago, and most recently asked to help and be on the first Board of the Girl Power Foundation as their treasurer’s assistant. Personal background and family information: I was born and raised near Akron, Ohio. I have an older brother and sister-inlaw, and younger sister, which makes me the middle child. I come from a close family, so moving to Virginia just over three years ago wasn’t necessarily easy to do. I moved into Leesburg not knowing anyone but quickly made new friends and embraced life in Virginia. I am now a homeowner in Leesburg but make it a point to visit Ohio as often as I can.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: I am most proud of taking my father’s company from just him working all the jobs and doing all the work with a home office, to a full-blown showroom with multiple crews. Person you admire the most and why:I admire my parents the most. They gave up so much in life to give the three of their children all the opportunities that they possibly could. They made education and faith a high priority while also encouraging us to do whatever sports and/or extracurricular activities we wanted (and sometimes didn’t want to do). Most importantly, though, they gave us an amazing support system and always pushed us to do more than we thought we could and to work hard. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Never settle for less than you want (within reason). I didn’t settle when given three job offers out of college and don’t regret waiting six more months for the opportunity of a lifetime to present itself to me. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: The Houzz app because it allows me to collect photos of a secret architecture/ home design passion of mine.

Most significant charity work/community involvement: With my busy work schedule and trying to get A&A Interiors off the ground, my community involvement has been very low. However over the next couple years we plan to make a bigger presence in the Loudoun County community. Personal background and family information: I am first generation of parents who migrated from Palestine. With their hard working background, my parents installed both education and work into my siblings’ minds and mine as little kids. They both always said that an education is something that no one can ever take away from you. I took over Audi Contractors after graduating from Catholic University in 2004, and we are very thankful that business has grown every year since. Person you admire the most and why: I actually admire two people equally the most:

Matthew Burns

Age: 40 Angel Investor, Global Speaker and Expert on Entrepreneurship, Governance and Security ConfidentGovernance.com, EnCrisp, NextGenAngels

Age: 38 Owner High Angle Associates

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: When EnCrisp made it to the Inc. 500 as one of Washington’s fastest growing tech companies in 2008-2009 in spite of the doom and gloom. Our next moment came when I started our second Cloud Governance software company, ConfidentGovernance.com, which was awarded GEW50 by the Kauffman foundation. Most significant charity work/community involvement: Getting involved with Loudoun in helping launch the small business outreach efforts. Getting involved in Leesburg Elementary as a volunteer father in the WatchDogs program and seeing the joy on kids’ faces. In India, supporting the cause of physically challenged people by helping “Prerna-Inspiration,” an annual event celebrating achievements of physically challenged Indian folks. Personal background and family information: I grew up in Mumbai, India, and spent my first 25 years there as an electrical engineer and a student whose only goal was to come to the United States to pursue higher education. Fast forward 15 years, and as a father of two (Pushti, 8, and son Brij, 7), my dreams have evolved and my focus in life has shifted. So has my title from being CEO to

One piece of advice for other young professionals: Customer service is dying in this country, and if you want to stay ahead of the curve, stay ahead of customer service. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: My favorite app is Google maps. I am always on the go and always need the most up-to-date roads to get to various locations. Since I have downloaded it, I have not been lost once.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Starting a business, although not from scratch, but taking one that needed change and expanding it, changing it and making it ours.

a father first. Having homes and offices on two continents around the world in North America (Leesburg) and in Asia (Vadodara, India) gives me a truly unique perspective on business and family life across east and west. Person you admire the most and why: Entrepreneurs around the world who have yet not made it big, but continue to push only for a dream...The secret to success is in the journey itself and in the struggles, dreams and perseverance of these common people. Those are the folks I admire, and I want to be one of them every day and hopefully inculcate those values in my children. One piece of advice for other young professionals: The same I try to give myself every day and remind my kids to learn as they grow up - Persistence, Patience and Practice. my father and mother. Growing up very poor, my sister and I watched my parents work two to three jobs to make ends meet and provide for us. Through their hard work, we went from a one-bedroom low-income apartment to where we are today. I will always remember where we came from and how hard the two of them worked regardless of the amount of hours it was to provide for our family.

Most significant charity work/community involvement: Although I volunteered for four years before becoming a career firefighter, putting in thousands of hours of time, it still does not measure up to the experiences I had in Nicaragua doing construction work on the school and homes used by orphans as well as the homes in a small community that were destroyed by a hurricane. Personal background and family information: I am married to Heather Burns and have a wonderful daughter named Kelly. Both my parents are a part of the business. My father, Frank, is my business partner and manages the warehouse and shipping. My mom, Nanci, assists with putting a second set of eyes on the business books. I have been a firefighter for 22 years, of which 18 of them have been a career. During this entire time I have focused

my career on Technical Rescue Operations such as building collapse, rope rescues, confined space rescues, trench rescues and tunnel rescues. Person you admire the most and why: My mom. She has always been my biggest supporter and fan. She has always been there for me when I needed someone to talk to and give me sound advice. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Do not rush into the decision to start your own business. Take time to research it and plan as many aspects of the business you can think of. Use your local SBDC to help with this. They are amazing people. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Facebook.

Grafton deButts Age: 31 Membership Sales Manager Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Being one of the founders of Loudoun’s first young professionals group, LoudounYP, integrating it into the Chamber, and seeing lives impacted because of our work. Most significant charity work/community involvement: Serving as a Young Life volunteer, staff, and committee member for 10 years. Personal background and family information: Grew up in Hamilton, now live in Leesburg with my wife of seven years, Beth, and sons, Brennan and T. C. Person you admire the most and why: Robert E. Lee, for his loyalty and humility in failure and success. One piece of advice for other young professionals: For the first time in your life, community is a choice, be open to it. It’s worth it. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Zombies, Run! A running app that leads you through the zombie apocolypse. What? I only run when I’m being chased.

They have always encouraged us to expand our wings and grow but have always been there to help pick up the pieces. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Don’t pass up a chance to learn. Seek out what leaders in your industry are reading or find professional development opportunities, join professional organizations and be involved. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Pandora.

She’s my best friend and she taught me how to laugh at myself – humility is a great characteristic. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Don’t take yourself too seriously, and be willing to make mistakes/take chances because you will learn more from your mistakes and/or failures than you will from achieving and succeeding at everything in the beginning. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Twitter (@rustyfoster2004).

Kristen Funes Age: 29 Owner | Tutus and Tiaras Dance Studio Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Having the courage to start my business at such a young age. I was 26 years old and only a few years out of school when I decided to put together a business plan and become a studio owner. I am very fortunate to have a family full of entrepreneurs who have given me the knowledge and have guided me on a path to success. Most significant charity work/community involvement: I am currently working on a charity to help raise money for a local family in the area. The mother, who has two young daughters, was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I, along with the Tutus and Tiaras family, am putting together a “Dance Shoe Swap” in which families can donate gently used ballet and tap shoes and swap them out for other sizes. Personal background and family information: I grew up in Easton, Mass., where I enjoyed spending time with my four siblings and my parents. I became involved in cheerleading and dance at a young age and always wanted to pursue a career in the arts. I graduated from Shenandoah University with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance performance, and went on to cheer professionally with the Washington Redskins. I left the Redskins to

pursue my two passions, working with children and teaching dance. In 2012 I married my longtime best friend, and we are expecting our first child in December. Person you admire the most and why: My father. Growing up, my parents gave me and my siblings more than we could ever ask for. By the time he was my age, my father had already had a full-time job while putting himself through college, and, along with my mother, was raising two children. He has always encouraged my siblings and me to follow our dreams, and has given me the confidence to pursue my career as a studio owner. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Take a risk and trust in yourself. “If you are not willing to risk the usual you will have to settle for ordinary.” - Jim Rohn Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Netflix. I love catching up on my favorite shows while waiting at the DMV or doctor’s office!

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: A professional accomplishment of which I am most proud is writing and publishing four novels as well as helping my organization to increase its visibility, raise awareness and increase education around our issues. Most significant charity work/community involvement: My most significant work occurs on a daily basis when the parent of a young child who usually has a new disability diagnosis comes into my office and sees what their little girl or boy could become with the right support, correct information and resources that work. Personal background and family information: I was raised by great parents who were married for 40 years before my dad’s passing in 2011. A Virginia native, my only sibling is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. My parents gave me a strong foundation of faith and to never give up. Person you admire the most and why: I admire many but at present, a distant friend from elementary school who I admire from afar and usually secretly. She has

One piece of advice for other young professionals: Never give up, never give in and find ways to bring to the table you’re sitting at others that have nothing in common with you and look significantly different from you. If you look around and you all look the same, find an exit. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: My apps are rarely used. I enjoy hearing a new song and having the phone find out who/what it is because I love ALL KINDS of music, some most people may be surprised about. But I rarely use any apps, and I’m not sure song finder is an app.

Age: 38 Partner Cooley LLP

Age: 36

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Being a part of any development in Loudoun County makes me proud, whether it’s seeing a road built, a neighborhood develop, or a new mixed-use community come out of the ground. I’m particularly proud of seeing One Loudoun grow, because it’s truly a cutting-edge development, at least for Loudoun County! Most significant charity work/community involvement: I love working with Bite Me Cancer, an organization that was formed by a then-17-year-old young woman who was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer. BMC seeks to support teens with cancer, as well as raise awareness and money in the fight against thyroid cancer. Personal background and family information: Originally from New Jersey, I moved to Virginia 20 years ago this month to go to University of Virginia. I’ve lived in Loudoun County for 12 years and have a 6½-year-old daughter, Kieran, and a 5-year-old (as of August 14th) daughter, Callie. My parents also live in Loudoun County.

Promotions Coordinator/ On-Air Personality | 92.5 WINC

Person you admire the most and why: I admire my parents the most. Selfless, generous and principled, they’ve always set an example of excellence, encouraging me and now my daughters to be exceptional. They have shown through their own example that being Jersey-strong and deeply rooted in my principles doesn’t require me to sacrifice grace, kindness or empathy. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Find a niche that reflects who you are and what you love. The more that you can be authentically yourself as you develop professionally, the more you’ll enjoy it and the more quickly you’ll blossom. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Spotify.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: While I have traveled the country and internationally as a producer for a nationally syndicated radio show, my current positions in broadcasting make me the proudest! I am living the dream as an on-air personality. And I still get to produce - which is my passion - as a freelance producer/director with the Washington Redskins for Redskins Late Night. Most significant charity work/community involvement: I was honored when I was asked to join the Board of Directors at The Paxton Campus. I feel blessed that I am able to make a direct impact on the lives of those with disabilities in our community. Even when that means putting on scary makeup and getting into character for Shocktober! Personal background and family information: I am a life-long resident of Loudoun County. I graduated from Broad Run and attended American University on a soccer scholarship. I am extremely close with my sisters and mom, who also live in Loudoun County. My husband, Charlie, and I have been married for 10 years and we have two sons, Cole (8) and Luke (5). Age: 33 “Jill of All Trades” Great Country Farms & Bluemont Vineyard

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: I am proud that I am a part of Knight Solutions, a strong and vibrant construction company, during a period when many firms are facing financial issues. I am extremely excited to be involved with a company that is growing very well and positioning itself to be a true leader in the community for years to come.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Taking the risk to change careers last summer. With no experience in agriculture and all of my professional life spent in big corporations, the idea of working for two smaller, local businesses was scary. Having the confidence in my skills and abilities to make the transition is something I am extremely proud of. Most significant charity work/community involvement: This began when I was 11 years old and my mom, Nancy, had me help her business at an AIDS Community Service fundraising event, “Cause for Celebration.” Working closely with the diverse families and communities affected by HIV/AIDS helped shape my views on the importance of not judging and simply helping where help is needed. Personal background and family information: I grew up modestly in the Buffalo, N.Y., area experimenting with many different interests, always preferring to spend my time outdoors or working on some creative project. After graduating from SUNY Buffalo with a BA in communication I was ready to spread my wings. On my way to move to Charlotte, N.C., I made a pit stop to visit family in Virginia. She always did what ever she needed to do to make sure my sisters and I had all we needed, whether it was physical, material, or emotional. She is amazing. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid of failure. And don’t be afraid of success. Enjoy every second of your path in life. Do what you love! Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Anything social media - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Knowing what is going on around you and letting others know what you are doing is key. This mentality created a life that she lived with unconditional love for those around her and passion and energy for everything she got involved with. The number of people she influenced inspires me every day to live up to the woman she was. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Just go for it! I hesitated applying for my first “big” promotion because I knew other candidates had more experience in that industry. I would have missed out on a huge opportunity in my professional life. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Twitter because of how it connects me to our others. Ashley Kennedy

Age: 35 Owner/President | Old American Title & Escrow, LLC

Age: 26 Owner The Run Around Hound, LLC

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: I take tremendous pride from working my way up from a receptionist, to a processor, to an underwriter, to being the owner and operator. Over the years I believe I have gained not only expertise, but the reputation for providing competent, quality services that give my clients tremendous peace of mind as they know the job has been well done. Most significant charity work/community involvement: Given the special needs of my children, I have become increasingly involved with highlighting the special needs of the autistic community. As we grow in our understanding of the limitations of those with autism, we are able to provide more appropriate accommodations so that those who are within the spectrum can enjoy more complete and fulfilling lives. Personal background and family information: I was born in Connecticut and moved to Loudoun County as a young child. I am one of two siblings and have three children of my own. I enjoy dealing with the challenges of being a mother to a teen-ager, a pre-teen, and an elementary school child all at the same time. Person you admire the most and why: I

admire my mentor, Katie Plofchan, tremendously. I came to work for her in the title business when I was 17. I have learned so much from her; she is a business woman who is able to balance the needs of her business with the demands of raising healthy and goal-oriented children. She continues to be one of my cherished friends and role models. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Patience and persistence. One must be patient and recognize that true success never happens overnight. It is only though persistence and continuance of high quality, competent work that one is able to develop their reputation and find true success. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: I find that I am constantly using dictation software that allows me to dictate emails and texts. This allows me to communicate more quickly and more often with clients, family, and friends. A solid dictation program is a must have.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Receiving Loudoun County’s Small Business Development Center award for best business plan gave me a great accomplishment and gratification for hope that my business can and will succeed a moment I will never forget. Most significant charity work/community involvement: Volunteering and donating to animals is near and dear to my heart. I donate annually to the Washington Humane Society & Friends of Homeless Animals by providing them with either free services from our company or coordinating food drives with my existing clients of The Run Around Hound. Personal background and family information: Being an only child has encouraged me to start my own business. I am originally from San Francisco, Calif., where I was fortunate enough to discover a love for animals. All of this provided me with an amazing opportunity at an early age to do what I do best - taking care of animals. Person you admire the most and why: Kristin Morrison from Six-Figure Pet Sitting Academy has really inspired me to continue

to grow the business I truly desire. She went through struggles herself and changed the way she ran her business to suite her own personal needs, including her spiritual journey. A real entrepreneur wants more than success, she also wants a meaningful life. One piece of advice for other young professionals: PATIENCE. I had the hardest time with this concept personally. I thought my business would happen overnight, and quickly learned that anything that takes hard work, also takes time. For all the young professionals out there, stick with it! You need to eat, sleep, and breathe your business in order for it to be a success. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: I use my Notes app the most. As a entrepreneur, your mind is constantly filled with ideas and you must write them down. If I don’t write them down, I lose them very quickly because my mind is flooded with the next thought - it keeps me balanced.

One piece of advice for other young professionals: You will hear people say they are “too busy” to do this or that. You need to make the time to do what it is you want. You live once and tomorrow might not just be “another day.” Go for what you love, make a difference around you and be remembered for having done something with your time. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Words with Friends. Huge scrabble fan. Best feeling is pulling out the 90+ point word.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: I’m most proud of growing Aphelion from a start-up to a 30+ employee company over the past five years. Aphelion has provided litigation support services to numerous law firms and corporations including two Global 500 companies. It was acquired last month by UnitedLex, a global leader in technology-powered legal solutions. Most significant charity work/community involvement: I served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with City Year. City Year recruits young adults to give one year of service in cities across the U.S. It has 25+ locations including one in Washington. I spent my days working in a special education classroom and evenings running an afterschool reading program. Personal background and family information: I’m engaged to marry Laura Shlesinger this coming year. She’s amazing in every way! I grew up in Ashburn, and am the sixth of Jack and Charlene Lawlor’s nine children. As an indicator of the opportunities in Loudoun, eight of my siblings, along with my parents, live in the area. Person you admire the most and why: I admire my parents. My mother is loving, strong,

and devoted, and abounds with Midwestern charm. My father is generous, adventurous, and sociable, and his curiosity is limitless. They never missed an event, despite the endless work raising our family. They are a testament to true love and its blessings. One piece of advice for other young professionals: First, sometimes break the rules (like only offering one piece of advice). Second, a lesson can be learned from every experience. If you take this to heart, each of life’s ups and downs has value. It also helps to keep things in perspective. Third, go out and travel the world. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: iRideHome, of course! This app offers nationwide coverage and connects safe/sober ride programs with those in need. My brothers and I developed it and are interested in working with driver programs, the adult beverage community, government, and all others who want to get folks home safely after a night out.

Scott Loftis Age: 32 Vice President, Business Banking Capital One Bank

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Besides actually providing a partnership toward the success of my business clients, I am most proud of looking back on my career knowing that I have helped others with their careers. Being a successful mentor, leader and trusted advisor is measured by the achievements of those I have had the privilege of leading/ working with.

Most significant charity work/community involvement: One of my proudest associations is with Reston Interfaith. The problem of homelessness does not have to mean hopelessness. It is great to see their work first-hand and to be a advocate of their efforts. To know that anything I do with and for them contributes is a great feeling. Personal background and family information: I grew up in Potomac Falls, attended Broad Run and Potomac Falls High School. I graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration from West Virginia University. Currently cover Loudoun for the Business Banking segment of Capital One.

Person you admire the most and why: I admire my mother, Sandy Loftis. She built her own business while raising three boys. She is a consummate professional with impeccable integrity. I chose her because even at this point in my life, few people have impressed me like she has and still does. One piece of advice for other young professionals: The advice I give to other young professionals is consistent. It begins with the encouragement to follow their dreams. The element of risk will always be present no matter what someone does. The challenge is to look at risk as an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand horizons. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Bleacher Report - It is critical to have up-to-the-minute updates on my favorite sports teams and events.

Age: 39 Elementary School Principal Loudoun County Public Schools

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Growing in each position I’ve held. From coaching swimming to my position at Ruth’s Chris and then Creighton Farms, I’ve worked hard and had incredible opportunities. Moving from an entry-level position to one of management and sales, especially [at Creighton] taught me a lot. Most significant charity work/community involvement: I’ve hand-delivered baskets to women who were waking up from their mastectomy. It’s an incredible feeling being able to deliver a tangible good in person to someone who’s already been through so much. Personal background and family information: I am a proud K-12 Loudoun County public school student! I have one younger sister who’s following in my George Mason University footsteps. Person you admire the most and why: Mom! After being a teacher’s assistant for almost 10 years, she went back to school to get her BA for elementary and special education – all online. Even though she technically “graduated” in December, my family and I pushed her to walk across the stage. We took a weekend trip to Arizona, and it was well

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: During the 20122013 school year, I had the opportunity to serve as the principal of Frederick Douglass Elementary School during our charter year. This was an amazing opportunity because of the deep historical roots of Frederick Douglass Elementary. It is an honor and privilege to be the principal of FDES.

worth the jet lag. One piece of advice for other young professionals: I have a block at my desk that says “Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” I didn’t always heed my own advice; I really lost out on the work-life balance. Don’t settle for less but learn how to juggle your daily life—in the office and out. Someone very dear to me, and much wiser, tells me all the time to “stop, listen, think and react,” and also emphasized taking time to “smell the roses.” Favorite app/program on your smartphone: The little green phone icon, since that’s what it is, right? My friends know I prefer voice chat over texting…I’m always picking up the phone to call instead. I think a lot of this world is lost on text and email. Okay, all seriousness aside, I do enjoy Instagram – I love being able to document my adventures in the kitchen and special times with friends.

Most significant charity work/community involvement: My family and I are members of Leesburg Presbyterian Church, and this year I will serve as the assistant den leader of my son’s Cub Scout Pack. Personal background and family information: I earned a bachelor of science from SUNY Fredonia in elementary education and a master’s degree from Shenandoah University in educational leadership. I have spent my entire 17-year career in Loudoun County. My wife, Krista, and I reside in Leesburg with our two children.

I saw the courage he had to lead a school during a challenging time. It is evident that his love for educating children motivated him to put all of his efforts into his school. One piece of advice for other young professionals: I would encourage people to learn from the experience and knowledge of their colleagues. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by remarkable educators who have taught me a great deal. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: ESPN.

Person you admire the most and why: I met Mr. Drummond, former principal of Frederick Douglass, when I was appointed as the principal of Frederick Douglass ES.

To pick one is nearly impossible, but since I must, I choose Bill Rancic. One piece of advice for other young professionals: One of my former supervisors once told me to contradict myself as little as possible. I’ve always found that to be sound advice. That’s not to be confused with admitting you were wrong or acknowledging the outcome was not what you expected. It pertains to who you are as a person. of other family members. It represents the truest sense of the American dream to not only grow a successful career and family, but to not forget about your broader community responsibilities. One piece of advice for other young professionals: I got this from a former boss. Success is based on Three Ts – Talent, Timing, and Territory. You need to be talented, but you also need to acknowledge that timing and territory is two-thirds of the equation. Rely on your skills, but don’t think your skills and talent will be the only thing that makes you successful. Coming across entitled – that you are owed something – especially when you are just starting your career, will ensure that people will not want to work with you. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: The off button. Sometimes it is just good to unplug, even for a little while. Gives you a completely different perspective on things when you do.

on that I would never follow in his footsteps (nor my grandfather’s) and become a pastor. Person you admire the most and why: My dad. He came to Loudoun with literally nothing but a dream of a life-giving church playing a central part in the community. No building, no members and no financial safety net. Well, as anyone in Loudoun knows, the rest is history. One piece of advice for other young professionals: “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge the Lord and he will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6).” If you’re not sure how to do this, guidance is offered every Sunday at 9, 10:45 or 12:30. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: Instagram- especially with the new video recorder part.
